whatcha think about Wurt

Recommended Posts

Boring and sad. The saddest part is not being able to do anything with meat... Can only turn it into eggs for filler (using them to make rattatouie or fistful of jam is especially painful) or gunpowder and nothing else, can't even give it to pig king.

Tried her for about 100 days, she just doesn't click with me, none of her perks are appealing, except for immunity to frog rains, I guess, or maybe higher stats from veggie food.

She doesn't provide anything what cannot be replaced with other characters. Merm houses? I rarely see anyone actually befriending someone for fighting, except Webber + Bearger can be used for chopping too. Marsh turf for speed boost? Are you really gonna cover all the map with it despite cobblestone having better look? Merm king buffs? Uhhhh... Probably fine, if you are ok with feeding or replacing him every 10 or so days. Keeping tools in hand while wet? The chance of losing it is very miniscule from my experience. Regaining more hunger from vegan food? Food was never a problem, even pre-reworked Wolfgang can be easily fed to maintain max hunger 24/7. Regaining sanity from fish? Tam'O'Shanter, Enlightenment Crown and a ton of vegan sanity food. Not losing items when sinking? If you have like 10 hours and not familiar with ocean, than ok. Frogs neutrality? Finally, a really useful perk, especially during frog rains.

I'm not a fan of her but I do see what type character she is

she as a character is "what Webber should have been but failed due to spider is such a weak and "not usefull" as a minions"

while she is not the best when it come to provide stuff to teammate that play as other character but is great if your teammate also play as her

you could say she is a selfish character and that is the playstyle her kit aim to

I'm fine when she doesn't provide much to teammate, but still, I do feel like she need a buff though, something that benefit the "everyone play as wurt" a little bit more

4:getting more hunger from food is more not to make her getting easier food but to make her veganism part easier to managa
5:yeah sanity from fish is kinda useless i admit

also why don't you mention other wurt's perks?

I dunno. On the first glance I can't remember any situation which involved a need for slowing fish spoilage without tin fishin' bin or bundle/gift wraps.

ice brim and sunfish, they work as better thermal stones(aka they can't drop in their temperature and are infinte with finshin' bin), as other characters it's not really useful because of how fast fish dies, but as wurt it maks her completely immunue to heat and cold after obtaining said fishes

I legit think that seasonal fish is overrated. Takes way too much luck and effort to even get in the first place (you can spend an entire season at the ocean and still not get them to spawn). Takes too much effort to actually use - a lot of bundling/unbundling as well as running back and forth to the tin fishing bins. Doesn't last long at all (maybe it does as Wurt...). Thermal stones are still way easier to use and you need them anyway if you plan to kill antlion every summer.

i agree with part about rng(literally spent whole damn summer to get sunfish), but as wurt you don't really need to use bundles because of how slow fish spoils that you can use only fishin' bin(iirc fish in her inventory dies 75% slower than normally), so after you get it once you can just don't care about seasons protection anymore

Wurt is one of the best characters in the game. She has so many little perks and interactions that she feels drastically different from all the other survivors. Merms are fantastic, she isn't bothered by rain, frogs are friendly, Merm King provides stat buffs + trading, Wurt gains more hunger from her vegetarian diet, she can bail off a boat for free, eat kelp for no penalty, jump off a boat repeatedly for wetness in summer...

tl;dr: she's fantastic and really feels like you're playing a different character.

I've only really seen three cases of Wurt discussion.

You main Wurt for your own reasons,
You have nothing to really say about it and/or just want to make a post that says "I have nothing to really say about it",
You think Wurt is such a bad character that the game would be improved with their deletion or a dramatic rework.

Prepare for personal opinion.

As someone who has always hated merms and their very existence, I'm very much in the last one. One of the first things I do when I get to swamps is craft a torch and burn all their houses down. They provide nothing but annoyance to me, and I don't care for fish and frog legs badly enough to even justify keeping them around as fodder.

Wurt's main gimmick of actively making more of the putrid, useless abominations goes directly against my playstyle.

A character like Webber is more tolerable because spiders can be near effortlessly obliterated en masse as various characters with various means, while merms take a bit more effort to kill and can't be so mindlessly erased from the map. That, and Webber gets more unique interactions with his spiders, along with his method of making his horrid hostile helpers neutral also requires no maintenance, but even if it breaks it can easily be cleaned up anyways by exercising that previously mentioned near effortless slaughter.

To how I play the game, Wurt's gimmick is just literal griefing.

Wurt can make them neutral through a few means, but that's assuming the Wurt actually wants to do that, or is alive to do that. If they don't, or fail to maintain those means, tough. That part of the world is inhospitable until you torch it or surrender to the florp yourself. (To then torch it, naturally)

However, I'm also not blind.

Wurt is okay if you're playing solo, but they take quite a bit of setup and maintenance to be truly viable. If you find that fun, I can get it. I play a lot of games that take a long time to get well established, so it definitely has it's merits. Once you start going, you can really, really keep moving at a good pace. All her other perks combine together to make various different challenges a little easier, and that frog neutrality is really nothing to scoff at. Temperature fish are also good, because, lets face it, if you're playing Wurt, you are going to be spending a lot of time in that world, so you'll have the time to spend getting those fish.

But for me, as I've said prior, Wurt just detracts from my experience as literally any other character just by existing in my world. Obviously not everyone views merms the same way I do, but for me it's just too much to even want to come up with the lamest reason to justify a Wurt's presence. Every buff they have benefits solely themselves, so they don't even have something to offer for other teammates. It's rough. She can make a funny hat, though.
