There really isn't that much benefit to bringing more characters from DS to DST outside of the argument that we would really love to see them in DST.

Currently even with the reworks there are many characters that infringe on the benefits of other characters, with the reworks that currently are in the game except Wolfgang, i can say that most of them i really liked and they did bring out unique things to the table but there are still characters that i can't really see why i would pick over another when they have similar perks but one is clearly better.

Its just going to become a mess if we keep getting more characters either ported from DS or new ones, its really hard to balance for everyone to fit in and to have his role, especially if you want to have more characters that fulfill the same role, how to make a good distinction between them like the pre reworked Wolfgang was comparable to Wanda not in their abilities but in picking early game damage dealer compared to late game damage and utility that far surpassed him but with his speed boost at least he had something going for him even after boss fights.

For example Wurt and Webber or Maxwell and Woodie, they do have their unique perks but they also undermine each other, if one of them didn't exist, there would be more of a reason to pick the remaining one.

You may say that i lack imagination and there are ways for characters to be added with unique features and this is not really wrong to say but what is the point when most of the playerbase usually plays 1 or 2 characters and the more characters that are in the game the harder it is to make them unique without going overboard compared to current characters, so it takes exponentially more effort as each new character gets added and after they need to be maintained.

Wanda is one of my mains and i will still say that she goes overboard compared to what other characters are able to do, one suggestion that i saw someone make that i would really like to see is to move wormholes with Telelocator staff to the biomes they can spawn in so that it makes it worthwhile to play other characters over Wanda in late game.

What i mean when i say maintain a character, we can use the example of current refreshes that have been going on since 2019, it took quite a decent amount of effort for klei to do this and its finally going to end in 2023. No one can speak for the future but if DST continue this path of regular updates, you can't say that characters won't need another refresh 5 or 10 years down the line.

Recent instance of stun lock changes because of Wanda's AC.

Characters require consistent effort and care with each new update so that it doesn't make them weaker or useless, doesn't infringe on their perks.

I would prefer content update compared to a character that i may not even play for more than a few hours.

I’m of the opinion that is unfair to have someone’s favorite Dont starve franchise character denied rights to be in the game- they are all Don’t Starve characters & they are all equally trapped inside the constant (unless Klei wants to write some plot where they’ve escaped..)

Warly & Wormwood made the cut for the game and there are players who saw those as their favorite solo DS characters- Who if someone else ended up in the game instead of them those people would be here now begging for Warly/Wormwood because X got in while Warly/Wormwood did not.

I feel these should take priority over New DLC characters too- Because unlike dlc characters that have a chance of going over poorly and being disliked: These characters are already established parts of the franchise they ALREADY have a fanbase of players eagerly awaiting the day they may become playable.

I can’t speak for anyone else but I’d totally pay 7.99$ for a belonging set that only gave Walani like 8 different Surfboard designs.

In fact the belonging sets when a character gets reworked is most the time Cheap and I can afford to spare 5-6$ every other month on them.

However with the roadmap saying we would get 4 reworks ending with the final one.. I am no longer holding out hope for the rest of the cast to arrive within DST.

Most people won't play 5 or 10 characters equally, usually we all pick one or two we enjoy and spend countless hours on them.

So it makes much more sense to focus on new content that everyone can access compared to a character.

You may be willing to spend money on characters that you don't play just because you are happy they are added to DST and you may buy their skins but you are an exception and other players won't do that.

I mean, there are none mentioned in the roadmap, so we're not getting any in the upcoming year.

I still feel like the character refreshes and the new DLC ones that were added have been taking a considerable effort from 2019, we are finally going to be done with it in 2023 and i am hoping that there won't be new characters on the next roadmap.

Its still worth having this discussion because i don't really believe that there won't be any more characters added in the future and to know where everyone stands when it comes to character and content updates.

Yeah, I agree it's worth talking about, just thought a reminder might be good.

I'd also like to mention that new characters are a one person project (if I'm remembering right, it was talked about on stream after Wanda's release) so it's not like the entire team drops their work on other stuff in order to make a new character. Plus art, but I don't know how the workload is divided.

I agree that bringing the rest of characters or creating new characters shouldn't be a priority specially because character reworks and dlc character had take a lot of spaces that could have been assigned to content updates but after reworks are over in 2023 I wouldn't be against Klei bringing back a character per year (I don't really think we need more new characters because we already have a good quantity of already existing characters without counting Warbucks).

Spoiler

And also, look and this guy and tell me you don't want to see him in the game, he is a pirate with a fun personality and a charming smile, he is perfect jaja! (Also his inclusion could bring new types of boats or boat structures).

We got such a huge influx of new characters (and refreshes, some of which are almost new characters) in the past few years and some of them aren't even in a totally good state yet

After refreshes are done I think it'd be best to take a step back and maybe polish up/add to some existing characters (cough cough Winona has an entire tab and only like two actual machines cough cough ONE OF THEMS NOT EVEN THAT GOOD COUGH COUGH) before adding any more new ones

Why are new and ported characters combined into one option? I would love to see ported characters from singleplayer, but I don't want any more completely new ones.

Hi, I'm the one who plays 5 characters equally! :D (Wilson, Wortox, Wolfgang, Wormwood, and Maxwell, plus Walani and Wheeler in singleplayer.)

I just didn't want to make poll convoluted, voting yes just means you want either ported or new characters or both.

Also you are probably the only person if it is actually believable that you spend an equal amount of time on 5+ characters. It isn't that hard to find someone who tried 5 or more characters, problem is when it comes to playing them most people stick to a few or usually even only play one.

This depends on what type of Server your hosting.. as well as how you “Personally” play the game.

Like for example if I’m playing “Wilderness” then I exhaust through the entire character roster telling a story of how each one eventually meets their demise: When they die I can’t select that character option again until they have ALL died.

Hilariously (and slightly off-topic)!this is EXACTLY how Rainbow Siege Extraction plays so I’m loving that some made up thing I was doing in DST is now in one of my favorite shooter games.

Outside of Wilderness when I play Survival or Endless then I dedicate entire “Worlds” to playing as one specific character only the entire time: I just have this “thing” where I feel like any surviving, building etc I do should be done as that character so I can’t use Celestial Portal shenanigans to pick & switch between them.

Last but not least: there actually is a “random” dice roll option that picks your character for you- that’s always fun :)

I literally play as EVERY Character in the entire game.. maybe I don’t “Main” them all but I play them just enough regularly to have a rough idea of what I’d like to see done with them in Refreshes/Reworks.

I’m not as “Hyped” I guess you can say for new dlc characters as some people are, because to me as a story writer I’m more interested in what has happened to the cast of characters that are ALREADY in the Constant (did they die? Did they escape? Are they still lost somewhere yet to be found?? rather then Klei randomly just adding new ones.

Not to discredit the lore behind DLC characters- I love them but: I’d also like to know What happened to Walani, Wilbur, Woodlegs, Wheeler, & Wilba

(Wagstaff is already in the game up to Wagstaff shenanigans with the Cliff Hanger ending to Return of Them.)

You see, this is where you are from my point of view completely wrong.

Walani has a surfboard and other flavour perks (losing water more, sanity/insanity auras are slower). That's it. A singular surfboard, a feature that doesn't even fit in with the new boating mechanics, so we should assume it'd be changed. She would have to be completely changed to be a bit more useful than scouting the ocean, something Woodie is able to do with a few seeds and monster meat and others can do with a bit more of preparation.

Woodlegs is a pirate, and while he has actual perks that are good, and could hold weight (ocean treasures summoned by his hat, pirate related crafts), but he still wouldn't really fit in, lorewise, because he is a pirate in the 20th century. Unless you'd go with "he is an actor", which is a mediocre explanation for why he is dressed up like a pirate from 17th century.

Wilbur. He would really be a third character in DST that is related to a mob and could befriend them. His other perks would be running and having the fabled ranged attack (Something Walter actually gained as an ammo type that actually deaggroes rather than aggroing mobs).

Warbucks. He was the sussy baka.

Wheeler. Another speedy character with a ranged weapon, she is practically Walter, but with a dodge, something both Wortox and Wanda have (with different requirements, while her dodge is a perk she already has from the get-go)

Wilba. Her transformation is even more similiar to DST's Woodie than the DS's one, carrying over deaths, having more control over the transformations. She really feels like if you combined all three of Woodie's transformations into one (Increased speed, damage and faster resource gain, heck, she even loses hunger, not in the same way as Woodie, but she does). Her other perk would be gaining items from the pigmen, which would theoretically lead to a pig-based playthrough, given the possibilites.

I just don't see people playing them other than for the novelty of it, given their complete similiarites to already existing characters.

Honestly I think I'd be happy to never see a new DLC character again. Kinda sick of hearing Wanda in every conversation.

The cast feels bloated and forgettable the more characters they add, and I feel that's reflected in the abilities too, with the inevitable increasing overlap as more are added, and other characters just left in the dust.

Why can't Maxwell have had a shadow whip, why couldn't Wikerbottom have had a variation of teleportation. Willow and Wolfgang could have had the ranged weapons. I'd definitely rather have lots of perks per character instead of lots of characters with only one or two things to note. DLC characters are definitely cool, but maybe I seem to have some sort of separation anxiety with the starting characters.

Although I agree that Woodlegs may not fit in the timeline, with the inclusion of Wanda we could say that her breaking the timeline had consequences jaja although that may be a stretch I only wanted to mention that.

Spoiler

And also I always imagined that the constant had existed equally or even longer than the "real" world too maybe that could be an explanation since time doesn't seem to age anyone but Wanda (But I think that's only by how she entered the constant)

Spoiler

Oh and also (sorry for talking too much I just remembered this detail), although I don't think he is an actor thinking he is a pirate like Wigfrid I still find weird that the guy knows what packaged waffles are and that his mom use to make them. Probably not important but there is something. Oh wait I just learned that Waffles were invented in the Netherlands in 1620, still I don't think they come in packages to make at home in that time but it was fun to learn.

inmersion goes die

I don't personally want more characters, but I'd be happy to see more in the future

Spoiler

Wagstaff is an exception I want to be able to play him in Together.
I just want more Wagstaff related content in general, really

i'd love wagstaff too, but i think his crafts will need to be nerfed, they are really damn strong. Thinking about it, wagstaff is like, the better, cooler winnona that's intresting to play.
