CremeLover Posted December 19, 2021 Share Posted December 19, 2021 When thinking about a rework of a character, the one thing to keep in mind is the fantasy that character fulfills. The way I see it, WX-78 and is niche is like that of RPGs or other games like megaman, metroid or terraria. That is, you start very weak, but slowly you advance and as defeat your enemies, you take a portion of their power and use it to upgrade yourself making yourself stronger. The way this is done is by defeating clockwork enemies, you take their pieces to reinforce your chasis, giving you a flat boost to your stats, making a fully upgraded WX-78 a fair contestant for tank alongside Wigfrid in terms of durability, specially with a couple of extra gears. The downside comes in acquiring those said gears. Is not much of an issue for experienced players, but for people who don't have much knowledge, consuming all the gears without knowing any better can be costly, for WX-78 and the server. Specially the server as WX-78 can eat spoiled food with less penalty, making him less in need for a fridge. For the rework, I don't have any specifics I want, but more of an outline: Allow WX-78 to craft gears while nerfing (or removing) the effect or consuming them, similar to wormwood with living logs. Using gears, electric doodads, wires or other technological components and some of the boss drops like the ancient guardian horn you can craft some unique upgrades for yourself (or the base, but mostly for yourself as WX-78 is not a character keen on sharing with fleshlings). Using the charged lightning rod as crafting station for WX-78 unique crafting Maybe give an overview to the energy system as a whole and making general crafts to create a thunderstorm (rain included) but maybe that's too big of a project for a character rework. (allow others more technologically oriented characters like Winona for her second rework to use the charged lightning rod for energy *wink*) That's a basic outline of what I think could be an interesting direction to take the character, without any fancy specifics. Wetness certainly needs to be a much bigger issue than it is as well. Other than that I don't know. I rarely use Overcharge, and I only eat Gears years into a world once all the IceBox/Fling needs are met. I wouldn't care too much if these 2 abilities were heavily reworked. Im honestly a little nervous though. On the one hand modules and upgrades sound cool of course. On the other hand I'd hate for things to get too silly or too far out there. I suppose Klei knows what they are doing though. To compensate for the removal of the speed boost butterflies now take 100 milliseconds longer to fly away from him since they don't immediately recognize him as living. I would also love of his upgrades were more unique and you could change what benifits you want with different upgrades. WX-78 should def have a more potent downside than just being tickled by water. WX could have a rusting mechanic where it slowly builds up, and it increases when wet. WX could wax himself to lower it. The more rustier he is, the weaker. (Then that means there needs a way to make a waxing kit, or a easier way to renew wax.) MAMMAL_MAN Posted December 20, 2021 Share Posted December 20, 2021 not sure how this idea will go but here are my two cents: WX is a robot and it kind of makes no sense for robots to need food to run (even with all the wild magic in this game imo). I talked with a friend about ideas for WX and an interesting one that stuck with me was replacing WX's food meter with a fuel gauge. Granted they can still use food as fuel, but it also allows possibilities for actual fuel (such as logs, charcoal, nitre, etc.) to keep themselves running. Depending on the gauge will have the following effects: - Too High: WX will begin to generate heat and get a minor speed/gathering boost, however they begin to lost health and sanity overtime (as long as the fuel gauge is too high -Normal: You just play normally, no bonuses -Too Low: WX will get a speed/mining reduction, and your stats will be blacked out note: this idea was made around a year ago but I just want to hear other's thoughts Other then what I have said above, @QuartzBeam has great ideas with WX involving the upgrade modules. Nah i wasn't thinking about the skeleton, that's pure old comical cartoon logic, but i don't kno why i always depicted him as cyborg, which would have explained how he eats, sanity, ecc.... if it's all mechanical parts as he described then okay. The question still remains, why creating a body like this? Could it be.... Wagstaff wanted to created a sorta of remote puppet to explore the Costant? As he did with his hologram? Like NASA when they use remote robots to explore parts of Mars. Electric Scanner/Beacon - Consumes stored power to activate night vision (scanner) or emit light (beacon). Electric Cloaker(I told you I suck at names) - Consumes stored power to lose aggro and turn WX-78 invisible. Or something like that. Honestly, since WX is a robot, they could go completely nuts with their refresh. Make them get rusted (less max health) from the rain and need gears to fix it. Replace Hunger with Fuel or something, so they just burn food and fuelables to increase it, but need to restore health and sanity in some other way. The list just goes on and on. Like imagine he gets a heat vision lazer shooty thing, or freeze vision for a hands free ice staff. I think Klei will be very creative with WX's rework, there really is just so much you could do with it. I think WX shouldn't have any team perks just because his character is a robot that hates everything that isn't a robot so it wouldn't make sense for him to have anything that benifits other players. mima_ Posted December 20, 2021 Share Posted December 20, 2021 tbh i never interested on wx perks because : -the best perks he had without help of wicker books, its meh . not like in hamlet that u can overcharge using mobs .. in DST i hate seeing wx player have to begs for being electrocuted to enjoy his perks at its max -being able to gather so many gears with ruins and repeatably reset it every summer make its easy for wx to relying on gear as basic food, no need to worry of farming and cooking on pots .. no need to worry about health and sanity again .. its a bit boring .i like food mechanic. but gear ? it gave so much stat and never spoil - he never really a team player. if there anyone tell me he can be a tank .. everyone can be tank.. just use marble suit and stacks of healing food. as tank wigfrid does it better. but man... if @QuartzBeam idea get implemented it would be so much fun .. instead of munching gear .. he can use gear to craft those module ... i can see it happen and will be super fun to play.. maybe add 2 kind of module stat module to upgrade his stat . and consumable buffing module (like for efficiency when working etc) to be good for early stat module if wont consume its durability (if its on the stat upgrade) but its will break if you force to take it out to replace with new module (dont drop the module back if equipped new module) or drop with one more chance to re-equip if he die with half of upgrade as well.(maybe) ... so in late game you might want and have chance to upgrade yourself with different stat module or using more of buffing module (consumable) so gears have more use than op non-spoiling late game food Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/136324-wx-78-rework-ideas/page/2/#findComment-1526389 Share on other sites More sharing options...
Mike23Ua Posted December 20, 2021 Share Posted December 20, 2021 I get what’s going on here.. people are making WX rework suggestions so Klei will be like: that’s the one they want reworked next let’s do WX instead of Wicker, Wilson or Maxwell! (just hope they also nerf Wx) because characters that are just increased, decreased stats are boring.. and I don’t care if it CAN be upgraded with gears, 400 hp is still a bit ridiculous. I would suggest letting upgrades do “other things” beyond just effect stats, such as: the ability to build a Wagstaff like Metal Umbrella that comes out the antenna on WX’s head that shields it from rain damage. WX78 was created by WAGSTAFF so uhhh yeah it should go without saying this: but it should be able to do some pretty cool stuff.
