August's QoL dump thread

Hey you all! 

 

Since klei is planning to do another QoL in August, i want to trow some ideas that have been collecting dust for a long time. 

 

-Having more building materials for statues: gold, thulecite, moon rock and more?

-Have an item that helps with diseases

-Make the sunken treasure chest have the possibility to have some of the non-renewable ressources like: berry bushes, spiky berry bushes, juicy berry bushes, grass tufts, sapling, etc.

-Have a salt lick that's made of salt. It would act like an upgrade to the one made of nitre.

-Being able to repair your salt lick with some nitre or salt would be really nice

-In the same way we now have volt goat herd renewable trough tracks, maybe make catcoon den spawn the same way if done under certain condition in the birchnut biome

Edit. I also would like to suggest some items that i would love to have a skin for:

-Scaled chest, Houndius shootiuses, Alchemy engine, Lazy Deserter, Thelucite crown, Walls, Moon dial and the Meat effigy

That's all the idea i had in mind. Feel free to share yours so we can have a big thread filled with some QoL ideas for the devs!

- Mushlights/Glowcaps not reducing the spoilage of any items in them whatsoever, allowing for a truly infinite source of light in the lategame without requiring an event (winters feast).

  • This is probably the biggest thing I really care about. Getting the lights is a hassle already, and having to wait for winters feast to even have some lights takes so long it’s not even funny. On my 6.8K day world, I don’t want my hallways to be dark, and having to wait for 1 of the 12 months of the year for me to maybe obtain enough lights to fuel 70-80 glowcaps when I will need hundreds is daunting to me,

- Adding an equivalent of the root trunk to DST in general (probably branches off of the QOL chart a bit, but would absolutely be a huge QOL improvement to many)

  • Covered this awhile back, but in general something I would desire from the tier 2 celestial station would be that structure, it would be immensely helpful for the lategame, where you do prefer to have 5-6 items in close proximity that you don’t want to actively carry on you, but you would like to have them if the need arises.

- Buff the thulecite club durability again, by a lot.

  • The 150 to 200 uses is nice, but unfortunately it’s just nothing game changing to me. If the uses were buffed to obsidian spear levels (375), I would probably start using it more often. As of now it’s incredibly expensive for what it provides, especially since a dark sword almost provides as much DPS, doesn’t need ancient crafting, and you can take the crafting materials anywhere with you and make them on the go. The club simply can’t do that, so seeing it’s durability be massively shifted would be nice.

That’s all I can think about that annoys me the most, but I probably will add to it in the future.

Most of this will reference my older suggestion threads.

-Survival/crude decorations like tied-up grass/logs, simple bench, axe in a tree stump. I don't mind existing decorations but for the love of God, Klei, give us something else than constant statues.

-(As a start, since QoL updates are usually small) Give Pigman ability to harvest plants for example Berry Bushes. Just copy (with a slight change perhaps) Pearl's code.

-More idle animations for creatures 

-More variety in sprites of natural objects like boulders or grass tufts

-A proper 'Throw Overboard' action. As of now if you want to throw something in the sea you just get a regular 'Drop' prompt.

Id like for the Night light to be a straight upgrade to the firepit while also having another touch that favors megabasers. Right now, it is quite literally a worthless item.

Proposal:

  •  The Night Light can take any fuel item at 100% effectiveness, like a fire pit.
  •  Fuel in the night light lasts as long as it does in the fire pit.
  •  Nightmare Fuel can be used to immediately set the fire strength to max. (in other words, it's equivalent to 4 logs)
  •  If a Night Light is fueled, other nearby night lights are also fueled with 50% effectiveness. (Radius can be around a lightning rod range)
  •  To prevent map-wide light (and possibly lag), Night Lights are automatically triggered only when players fuel a nearby night light in range; no chain reactions.

- Better sources of butter would be nice. Gets annoying having to rely on random chance for it when some recipes rely on it.

- Adjustments to certain Shadow Magic items would be nice; especially things like the Shadow Armor and Night Light.

- Let the Lazy Forager be refueled with nightmare fuel (correct me if it's already in-game).

Honestly, I would rather the forager just have better durability. I don't think that it needs to be a craft once use forever item. It's not fundamental to survival like a light source and it gives us an actual use for ruins loot if it isn't refuelable.

As far as QoL upgrades, I would love to see writing on mini signs when they are placed directly on a chest being improved. It's doable if you understand specifically how to do it, but many players don't understand the trick and explaining it to them is challenging.

-Retexture terrain and some objects
-Skin symmetry fix (Etc. Wilson have one eyed glasses or on bandage on his eye but he have same sprite from left and right).

Some QoL improvements I would like to see are:

- Map icons for the mysterious marbles.

-Improved volt goat horn drop rates.

-Some way to disable grass geckos from spawning from planted grass tufts/ or overhauled to be like a herd mob similar to beefalo/volt goats that spawn in the mosaic biome.

-Some ability to counter disease in planted crops, like crafting some kind of aoe spray that cures the crops after they are diseased or planting the crops on specific turf types, as it is disease is rather annoying especially for larger set ups where it just gets increasingly tedious to replant the crops and you are better off disabling the whole mechanic.

-When both the crockpot and fridge are open, when quick moving food items the crockpot is prioritized over the fridge.

-Make Tackle boxes openable from the inventory, and they drop on the ground once you open them, just like gorge pots. Currently you have to DROP the tacklebox and then right click to open. This is really annoying to do especially on a crowded boat and would be super nice to open em like gorge pots, I made a mod to do this for myself but i'm sure everyone would appreciate it if it was added officially,

Same with WX's halloween skin, the one where he's opened up, the Unfinished or smtg

I have few more qol ideas

-Keep pressing should automaticly cook food on fire. Like auto cutting at tree. I realy hate to cooking one stack of food with clicking insanely.
-Lucy equip sounds should to be muted if we equiped it few seconds before. Her sound is annoying. I don't want she get muted but while taking shovel/axe fastly she is spamming.
-Servermods must have "Active All" button. I'm really getting tired to open one hundered mods by hand.
-Characters should speak while moving too. When you examine something while moving we only see quotes not sounds. I really don't get why klei muted them.

Make tent and siesta be able to repair by sewing kits and trusty tape: we can repair a rock, why not a tent.

Adding Lunar blossom and flower pots to decorate.

Boat kit and siesta lean to skin, they both frequently use items.

Something similiar to winterfeast table but for showcase item: place an item on a table for everyone to see, decorate the base ( another way to flex boss kill item other than statues) and it would be a good way to introduce other players rare loots in game and it's uses.

 

 

  • Skins for Stone Walls, Wood Walls, Cobblestone, Carpet, Checkered Flooring, Berry Bushes, Juicy Berry Bushes, Evergreens & Birch Trees
  • Potted Bonsai Versions of all Trees
  • Potted Lune Tree blossoms
  • Automatically stacking Guano, Bee Stingers, Twigs on the floor (Lag is a real problem on all my worlds due to too much natural litter)
  • Replace the Oasis Birch Trees with a new Tree variety that fits thematically. 
  • Renewable Bull Kelp Stalks
  • Give us a way to plant sea stacks (Maybe toss an antlion boulder into the ocean)
  • Fix Bunnymen getting stuck everywhere and especially two Bunnymen getting stuck against one another
  • Fix Skitter Squid getting stuck on boats, under boats and getting invisible (so my boat base doesn't turn into a pool table anymore, (and yes there are anchors everywhere :D ))

The update is scheduled for release on the 20th, so it may be too late for me to request this- (I just thought of it so I apologize for not asking sooner) is it possible that I can get a QoL update that shows little picture representations of what messing with certain world gen settings will do to your world?

For example World Gen Branches, World Gen Loops... I don’t know what any of that means and looking it up on Wikipedia is rarely ever helpful for console players this would be a much appreciated QoL thing to better understand what changing those actually does.

My idea

Make anti greif a thing. You can burn chest, sceince machines, Shaow manipulators, Prestihatiors, and many more. In real life. The charater would be logical and wouldn't burn the things in the first place. The charater should say a line like "I shouldn't do that". This would remove greifing from the game almost entirly making sure people cant burn sturctures on purpose. However It could still be possiblt to drop a twig by the sceince machine and light it on fire and cause a fire that way but it would still be harder to greif. In the current system people can be encouraged to greifing by acidently lighting up a shadow manipulator. I would also like to see a way for you to possibly create a lock with 1 cut stone so people can't steal your stuff.I would also like to make it so people can only hammer a scturcure if your the host or your the creator of the structor OR the structure is already burnt. And there are many other thing klei can do to do anti greif. Also an important thing is to ALLOW greifing on servers that have Pvp, Greifing is bad in non pvp survival servers BUT in pvp servers greifing is a thing that keeps PVP alive.

Import the entirity of uncompromising mode in DST. Uncompromising mode is what DST should be. Uncompromisng Does everything correct

good suggestions except the salt one. late game nitre becomes abundant because of petrified trees.

I like this suggestion because I am using the grassy tent skin as decoration and not as sleeping apparatus. but I will have no idea if people will be using them to sleep behind my back and sewing contingency would be nice

This is a reasonable qol suggestion

but this is... a straight out buff and i don't agree. especially since u can get more goat herds in 1 world

I think butter is too powerful to have a more reliable source. 40 hp and 5hrs + of spoilage time inside of the inventory is pretty damn good and if u have a farmable source for that, it might become "too" reliable

My qol suggestion: ctrl+f to kill fish. Just give them 1 hp so they die faster and give them monster meat stacking behavior to complement this.

I would love to see more skins to non-craftable items now that we have the reskin tool. But the more important addition that I would like would be an option to deactivate DST's Flashing Lights, as someone that I know on the community suffered an attack because of 'The End is Nigh' Book. This would be the addition that I would be the most happy with, as it is an issue that shouldn't be present on the game

While three out of four butter recipes don't accept substitutes, ice cream can be made with Electric Milk instead; maybe a way of turning electric milk into butter would be a good addition, rather than making it drop more often or from more mobs or, I don't know, hitting butterflies with a craftable butter extraction ray? After all, butter's made out of milk in real life, it's not that much of a stretch. A hacky way to do it with existing items would be to put three electric milks in Warly's grinding mill and receive butter as the end product, but there's probably a better way.

butter in warly's mill would be a pretty neat extra use for it

Other ppl can attune meat effigy's you already attuned which could be a way to grief. Would be nice if other ppl couldn't override the attune and you could also un-attune it

also buff morning star, make it refuelable with nitre

what if expired milk made cheese with a dairy value of 0.5, restored a decent amount of sanity and spoiled really slowly
