What about hated characters?

Recommended Posts

Which characters you hate (or u don't enjoy playing with him) and why?

In my opinion the first person of hated club is Wurt. She don't fit my play style also I think her perk is weak and her downsides is not so original (for a remaked). Also I don't like her looking too. She could look more dump (like elder merms). This would make her more cute. Her face is "what the heck" everytime.

The other person is Wolfgang. I see so much person like him but I'm not a aggressive player. I prefer farming instead fight and hunt.

Wurt is a vegetarian with no farming, gathering, or cooking synergy.

Most vegetarian crockpot dishes are awful.

Shes a base builder with 2 different fighting merms, and the king, which is all she really gets.

Shes a child who can amass allied merms but she can fight and gather perfectly well on her own.

She is a mashup of too many different things, none of them fleshed out, and none of them synergize.

If you ask me, she should work slower and be weaker in fights, which makes her rely on her merms more.

She should be able to construct gathering, fishing, and farming merm houses, and special swamp farms, which let her have more synergy with her vegetarianism, and create a sort of RTS economy with herself and the Merm King.

If you could create and stock manure piles and seed boxes, where merms would busy themselves growing crops while you tend to other matters, and you had to gather parties of merms (who could be gained theough the fish a fisher merm would collect) to get over a fighting/gathering downside, I think that would create an incredibly unique and rewarding style of gameplay.

Some new vegetarian crockpot dishes would be nice (especially with the newer garlic/potato/etc crops).

But instead her only real downside is being a vegetarian, but she has no interesting interactions with that, she can accomplish everything just the same as any other survivor, her base building is lackluster, and merms are just boss killers, and dont really need to be relied on.

Best part about my idea is that its not all that hard to do, it would take some time and testing, but I could accomplish all those things as a modder.

I hate Wendy, because she is typical suiciedal-depressed 10 years old. Whats funny about her? Never understood why everyone so hyped about her

I think Wendy has a nice play style. Abigail can be helpful with hound waves on the early days, or too get glands, silk and monster meat. She can also serve as a distraction from other mobs so that they don’t target you instead.

I don't remember I ever played with her lol

He don't say she has bad abilities. He says she is not interesting

My mum would like to have a word with you, if you please.

As for hated Characters, not sure. I've never played any character outside of Webber. Find it hard to hate anything really.

I love woody but hate how weirdly nerfed he is. His curse is basically worthless in DST and that disappoints me

How so is he nerfed? Hes a great wood gatherer, can fight swarms very easily and scout the land and ocean.

Theres a whole separate discussion in the forums about how worthless his curse became after the refresh. Log meter is gone, the curse doesnt come on by chopping wood anymore and happens through eating monster meat (weirdly doesnt line up with the lore). His curse eats up sanity and hunger like crazy and now cannot be lengthened anymore by eating wood or twigs and such. Theres much more stuff that was mentioned in that discussion, should come up with a quick Google search. I used to play OG Dont starve earlier, been following the game since beta, so it confused the heck out of me when I went into DST and spent 15 minutes trying to get the curse activated by cutting trees. After looking it up, I got know how he got refreshed and what changes came up.

If I'm a bit ignorant about certain things please help me out here I'm returning to the game after a long time so I may not be 100% up to date. Thanks for understanding:)

is not a nerf when you can kill hordes of spiders/monkeys/bees/low health mob in no time reducing a lot the time to gather these kind of loots

now he can spawn tree guards more easily and, if you dont want to waste time fighting tree guards because you only want wood, then you can transform to only chop or mine without being disturbed

the goose just reduces a lot the time to find lunar island and another ocean point of interest

and these are only obvious uses for him, im sure that main woodies have a lot of good tricks with him

i dont see any nerf. Maybe isnt invincible (with wood close to recover the wood meter) like in ds but has a lot more perks and less downsides

I mean, I don't really hate anybody, but there are a few I generally dislike. I don't WX-78, I just think his personality is annoying and I think he's a little too good. I think Wurt's vegan thing is a huge headache to a lot of players and like a ball and chain to Wurt mains. I don't really know why a lot of people dislike Winona. I think she's cool, maybe they hate her playstyle? Her skins? I don't hate her, and, in fact, I used to main her.

Winona: I don't "get" what this character is supposed to be. She's a factory worker, so she makes catapults and a stage light...That doesn't compute with me. I guess they're trying to make her an "inventor" character, but to pull that off she needs more than just two exclusive items. If they want to make her an inventor, she needs to be like Wagstaff and have at least 7 different items. Also, both her items are really random. The Stage Light feels like something Wigfrig would build, given that she's an actress.

And both items are horrible. The catapult is OP as hell. I'm not sure if they patched it out, but if you place catapults on a boat and sail that near the shore, you're invincible. There's loads of hacks like that that you can do with catapults that just break the game.

Meanwhile, the stage light is totally useless. Which is frustrating, because there's actually some cool mods that fix them really easily. There's especially one that makes it a boat part and it's used for sailing during the night and it's amazing.

Also, the whole being Charlie's sister feels really tagged on and adds NOTHING to her character.

Hate is a very strong, harsh word, and so far I cannot associate it with any of the characters.

The only character I have any sort of negative feelings towards is Wormwood, but that's only because the first time i played him, which was in Hamlet, a pig guard set a weevole and its grass patch aflame dusk of day 1 while i was nearby, which effectively brought my sanity from full to zero in a matter of mere seconds. Even then, I only dislike him due to that memory, but do not hate him.

I don't know if I HATE any characters, as in personally dislike them as people or writing constructs to the point where I would go around badmouthing them to others, but I do have a playstyle and rarely if ever play those who go directly against it/whom I find "annoying".  Basically anything where a stat needs constant babysitting or I'm really restricted, really.

...I've never played Warly in DST.  Not once.  I already disliked playing as him in Shipwrecked, so I knew ahead of time!

Others include Wolfgang's GOD.  DAMN.  SHRINKING ANIMATIONS that make you die not because you legit got stuck in something or trapped, but because you simply didn't _exactly_ manage your hunter meter (annoying, babysitty) and Wes because he's the challenge character overall and I'm a wuss.  With the "limited diet" characters I gotta say, I would probably do worse with Wurt than Wigfrid because..meat is still around in the winter.  Plants NOTsomuch...  The first time I saw somebody play a vegan character (the mod character "Winnie", years before Wurt was a thing), they DIED SO HARD in the winter.  It was not pretty.  (Although the "YAY STALE BIRCHNUTS MY FAVOURITE!" line was hilarious.)

Even though you can change characters mid-game now, it was not a thing at ALL in the game for so long that I still don't tend to remember it exists, so I don't think about "play this character untli X happens and then switch to this other character".  So I still tend to pick somebody I could see myself playing LONG term.  That means they have to be at least viable to a non-badass like myself in ALL seasons.

...Notorious

My most hated characters are Wes and Wilson, they’re playstyles are both equally boring and uninteresting.. Wes is supposed to be this Uber hardcore challenge mode character according to most of you but as someone who actually plays survival simulators I can say there are a hundred billion ways they can rework Wes & make him less Annoying. I’ll just save everyone the long drawn out story book post & skip to

The TL:DR- The self imposed challenge you place upon yourself when picking to play as Wes, should NOT Also be effecting everyone else in the server with you who did not pick to play as Wes & did not want nor ask for the additional challenge of having to suffer Wes’s downsides as if they had choose to play Wes.

The best example I can give of that is Wendy’s Refresh- Wendy’s attack damage being weaker only drug fights with Wendy involved in them out much longer and wore out tools faster, Which is Exactly why in her Rework Abigails petal bestowment now completely negates that downside altogether- And actually HELPS a Team instead of Hindering it.

Hot take but I hate Wendy with a passion.

She comes off as the annoyingly obnoxious type of depressed character that tries too hard to be edgy for me to take her character seriously. I can understand that Wendy is still mourning over Abigail, but then why make her casually joke about killing Webber, one of her closest friends, in her moon stone quote? I thought the last thing someone in mourning would want is to have another one of their friends killed? And how can I take her implied depression seriously if you have her running around making these very tasteless suicide jokes but then also have her actually say that she's suicidal? And then you have her other quotes that come off as trying waaaay too hard to make Wendy edgy (more than 5+ quotes where she just says "lol this is empty like my soul/heart xd"). I just hate how her implied depression makes her come off as both a try hard emo-wannabe but also flips back to her being genuinely sad about life/Abigail, which just makes me dislike her character for how her "mood" is all over the place.

And then there is her play style which has the same issues as Wicker and Wolf, but a lot worse. Wolf and Wicker might have powerful abilities with an irrelevant downside, but at least they have some drawbacks to make them more hard to manage for a newer player ( new players are usually not good with hunger and sanity management, so image how well they are going to do with characters that constantly need food, or are almost always insane). But Wendy? .75 dmg mod. that's it. Her upside? a ghost that can be summon at any time that can make hound waves, frog rains, and other groups of small mobs easy to take care of with next to no effort. She also has a crap ton of potions to make things easier for said ghost along side a butch of other stuff that makes her a crutch character. I mean, no wonder why she's the most popular character on pubs. You could go a full year without fighting anything because of how powerful Abby is. And b4 someone says "but what about Deerclops and Bearger? Abby can't solo that.", sure she can't, but the treeguards that they can spawn can.

Sorry for a wall of text but I just really hate Wendy and I don't understand why people like her character (outside of her ingame ability) despite her character being really shallow and her personality offering nothing but "grr im edgy and I hate the world grr"

I understand your perspective. There are definitely some upsides to his character but arguably huge comparative disadvantages too. I guess it just comes to down personal taste and preference and opinion. Thanks for the different point of view though! :)

It does match werepigs, who also share full moon transformations, so I’d say the mon meat change lines it up better.

But the thing is, werepigs dont have Woody's curse, which originally was that he would become a beaver when he cut too many trees. He and Lucy loved cutting trees and he would get carried away and cut too many and this would eventually cause Lucy to tell you to calm down but continuing to cut more trees activated the curse and would make you the beaver. That was perfect! Now that's just not there. Yeah... I get the full moon shtick but that tree curse was just so cool and character defining yknow?
