fishoutofwater
Hi there, would you share your knowledge about ONI that other player might not know about.. I'll start with mine; 1. if you engulf cool steam geyser with one kind of any type of gas, it will emit steam and the gas. I usually fill it with hydrogen. 2. if you dig like making stairs through cold biome, you can pour down any liquid to create vacuum to prevent mix gas and temp. 3. CO2 for airlock Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/100648-things-you-might-not-know-in-oni/ Share on other sites
Ozcuraz
Just read ONI's lore and discovered that Wheezewort ... Spoiler It is actually an animal that has an ability to transform into seed. I don't know why they are grouping Wheezewort under Plant Category in Database though. Ixenzo
This got me thinking. Is it possible to avoid Steam (or any non-hydrogen) vent overpressure by using the one tile rule? Identical concept as flooding a gas vent, except with a sufficient amount of hydrogen or any other lighter-than-output gas tricking the vent into thinking there's still room to erupt? I wonder if there won't be enough time for the hydrogen to push the output down fast enough, since gas stratification is fairly slow compared to vent outputs. ruhrohraggy
Diamond window tile has the highest melting point of any build-able block at 7100.3 F, 3926.7 C or 4199 Kelvin. This beats tungsten by about 537 C. It's also more thermally conductive than tungsten, and offers a much higher heat capacity. Hard to achieve as the tile the game checks for overpressure is in the second row above the neutronium. I've seen natural gas get into the 7 to 8kg range by accident but not higher. Coolthulhu
Chlorine is sterile only when a gas. Liquid chlorine doesn't prevent rot. Same for CO2. Rockets heat things even through solid tiles. Pacus and shine bugs can be safely tamed and left to fend for themselves - their short lifetimes mean they won't starve to death before laying an egg. Liquid pumps in mixed liquids pump slower. Gas pumps in at least 3 different gases also pump slower (they still work perfectly fine in 2 gases). Open horizontal doors are still walkable and even climbable. Dupes can take showers while wearing suits. Is it possible to avoid Steam (or any non-hydrogen) vent overpressure by using the one tile rule? It is. The pressure sensor that displays the "overpressure" message has absolutely nothing to do with where the gas actually outputs. The gas outputs in a plus shaped region, centered on the left side of the vent, second tile up. To output gas, all you need is the ability to put the gas in one of these 5 tiles. If you liquid lock all 5, or gas lock all 5 with different gasses (doesn't matter the amount), the vent will not output (even if the "overpressure" message doesn't show). By using gas conflicts, you can make any vent output to insane pressures. I started a thread on this months ago, but after a week there were no comments so I took it down. Chaoticlusts
Quote 1. if you engulf cool steam geyser with one kind of any type of gas, it will emit steam and the gas. I usually fill it with hydrogen. Wait, what?!?! Holy crap that's amazing! Does it reduce steam emitted at all? Or I guess another way to state that would be if the only gas around is steam does it emit extra steam rather than another gas? To add to the list, mesh tiles don't thermally interact with anything other than their 'contents' (ie: the gas or liquid inside of them). This means if you make sure there's a vacuum in them they are a perfect insulator and are particularly good for supporting structures inside a vacuum since any other tile will absorb heat from passing pipes and such. Also in case people have missed it like I did.. power cables and automation cables transmit heat.. This is a particular bugger in vacuum setups. Apparently I was somewhat mistaken on this, full details in Ruhroraggy's post below. These are probably somewhat common knowledge but I only just learned them >_< Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/100648-things-you-might-not-know-in-oni/#findComment-1132437 Share on other sites

They don't pass the heat onto other objects? They definitely receive it, I've got wires in space hitting anything up to 553c (That particular spot would be from the rocket landing as it's directly above it, other heat spots are mostly around regolith but not all) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/100648-things-you-might-not-know-in-oni/#findComment-1132440 Share on other sites
ruhrohraggy
They do not pass on heat to machines they are plugged into, only tiles that are built on them, and only that tile of automation or wire will transfer the heat, not the entire line. This is a good thing, otherwise my scanner / solar network would be toast. Generic scrub
Any sort of background piping stuff only exchanges heat with the enviroment Put simply, If the wire or pipe is in a vacuum, it will not exchange heat with adjacent wires, pipes and tiles Wire or pipe bridges do exchange heat, but only inbetween the "connected" tiles Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/100648-things-you-might-not-know-in-oni/#findComment-1132461 Share on other sites

This is a good thing, otherwise my scanner / solar network would be toast. Ahh thank you, that does explain a couple of things. I was struggling with some storage options for the cargo from ice planet missions originally, trying to stop the methane from vapourizing (would love to be able to transport the oxygen but that seems to be...problematic...currently), the 300C wires seemed like the culprits but I made a few alterations when I rebuilt so it must have been one of the others that fixed it. Will edit my original post to avoid misinformation. Xuhybrid
A cool steam vent doesn't emit anything but steam. You know why you think differently? Because when steam is emitted, it compresses the gas that's there into a denser amount per tile. Please don't make these lists like you're an expert. Craigjw
The geyser causes extra (2nd gas) because of the 1 gas per tile bug/exploit/thing. ONIfreak
Hello Everyone, So things i found out so far: - When you build bridge at the end of pipe with gas/liquid stuck in it. this bridge will move liquid/gas the direction the bridge goes. without consuming any power. - Gas/Liquid reservoirs can be used without pumps to build loops. instead of connecting pump to move liquid around you can just build some container and this will work without power at all. - Plants for glossy Dreckos does not need much water - limit it with shutoff to do not waste water. (by the way at cycle 2500 i still don't have plastic press. Drecko farm is enough to have around 100t of plastic all the time). - If you mop clean water - water bottle will not stay in place for long. it will change to water very quickly making mess again. If you have some supply/tidy priorities problems it is better to sweep by building tiles rather then moping. especially in basement where is very got. water change to steam, steam goes up change to water, make mess and again to infinite loop. - if you manage to put two different liquids in one tile it will build a water lock without a step like standard water lock. it has to be build in 2 tiles corridor - top liquid get "glued" to top tile and it will prevent of any gas flow Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/100648-things-you-might-not-know-in-oni/#findComment-1133501 Share on other sites
