Cosmic Upgrade seed sharing thread

Recommended Posts

** Note -- I have observed and received mixed reports about seed compatibility between Ranch 1, Ranch 2, and Cosmic.  A number of users have reported that only very minor differences occurred when using a Ranch 1 seed in Ranch 2, and again using a Ranch 2 in Cosmic's Preview build.  This is a departure from the historic norm, of each new Upgrade breaking the correlation between world seeds and the asteroids they generated in the previous Upgrade.  For that reason, feel free to post your Ranch 1 and Ranch 2 seeds as well, but PLEASE LABEL THEM AS SUCH. **

Welcome to the Asteroid Seed Sharing Thread for the Cosmic Upgrade!

The purpose of this thread is for posting world seeds for other users to use when creating new maps to play.  This is not limited to maps that are simply "easier", either, though I imagine a fairly high quantity of them could be characterized as such.  This thread is just as much for interesting asteroids, as well.  A number of more advanced players have also expressed an interest in, for example, ensuring there is at least 1 Volcano and 1 type of Metal Volcano.  Or for rolling a map that they know going in does not contain a less useful Geyser, like the Hot Steam Vent or the Hydrogen Vent (both produce on average too small of a volume, and in both cases it is hot enough to melt objects built from Metal Ore).  For whatever the reason, hopefully this thread will act as a bit of a supermarket for players to shop around and get something they like when starting a new map.

So lets get to stocking those shelves with some interesting and eye catching products!

When posting your map seed, please include a short description of why you feel the map is easier, or more interesting, or presents a unique challenge.  When doing so, however, be aware that some players are also driven for the joy of exploration.  If you are feeling wordy, don't be afraid to make use of Spoiler tags to hide some of the more specific information.  For example, knowing what type of Geysers there are on the map isn't something to hide, but its probably a good idea to put the directions to find it in a Spoiler.

Similarly, when describing the types of Geysers on the map, put the Eruption information inside a Spoiler.  Not only does this preserve the exploration surprise for the players who are into that, it will keep individual posts a bit smaller to prevent any walls of text from scoring critical hits.  In that same vein, if you are posting multiple Seeds in a single post, separate them into their own Spoilers.  You can then Spoiler within the Spoiler for the Eruption details.

Screenshots can be helpful, but are not necessary.

This Spoiler contains information on how many of what kind of Geysers can be found where on the map:

There should be up to(≤) 12 Geysers and 3 Oil Reservoirs in a map. Because there are 18 kinds of geysers (not included Oil Reservoirs), it's impossible to have all kinds of geyser in a single default map.

  • Swamp Biome: 1 Cool Steam Vent + 1 Chlorine Gas Vent/Natural Gas Geyser + 2 random geysers (Randomly selected from 18 kinds of geysers, buried).
  • Caustic Biome: 1 Cool Steam Vent + 1 Natural Gas Geyser + 2 random geysers (Randomly selected from 18 kinds of geysers, buried).

1 Oil Reservoir

Spoiler

Immediately above the Infected P-O2 vent on the bottom left

4 Neural Vacillator

Spoiler

All are near the top of the map

3 are clustered fairly tightly in the center.  The first is sandwiched between the Volcano and the bricked Cool Steam.  The second is to the right from the bricked Cool Steam, and a bit down.  The third is the Morb Vacillator template, straight down from the locker section of the second one.

The 4th and final Vacillator, the Reed roofed template, is straight across from the Morb Vacillator near the left edge of the map.

3 AETNs

Spoiler

The smaller Ladder template AETN is located immediately next to the bricked NatGas Vent in the Ice Biome on the right side.

The horrible, awful, multi-door template AETN is on the right edge of the map, just above the Oil Biome.

The right side Gene Lock Door template AETN is on the left edge of the map, level with the bottom of the Starter Biome.

Not an outstanding seed, but an interesting one.  The lack of a Metal Volcano may become frustrating, forcing you to depend on Sky Iron (meteors).  Similarly, only a single Oil Reservoir will pose a bottleneck for late game Oil/Petro builds.  The AETNs are also rather scattered.  Combined with the "lack" of a Slush Geyser, more imaginative cooling systems will be required.

Thanks for starting this up, PhailRaptor!

After scouting 30 or so maps in debug mode, I found one I quite liked for my first non-preview Cosmic Upgrade base. It's not perfect but should allow for a sustainable base, especially due to the large amount of water present in one form or another. The main downside to this map is the smaller area of cold biome and the corresponding lower number of Wheezeworts, possibly making heat management a challenge for those up to it. Note: all adjusted continuous rates have been rounded off to the nearest whole number.

I present to you: map seed 870410929!

2x Cool Steam Vent

Spoiler

Just North West of the starting biome, already exposed.

  • 6.8 kg/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 170 s every 653 s while active
  • Active for 96.3 cycles every 156.7 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 6800*(170/653)*(96.3/156.7) = 1088 g/s

Just South West of the starting biome, already exposed.

  • 3762.7 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 379s every 879s while active
  • Active for 55.7 cycles every 95.0 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 3762.7*(379/879)*(55.7/95.0) = 951 g/s

As these are both right next to the starting biome, they make for a great water supply until you find the more powerful water/cool slush geysers. Protect your base from their heat though!

2x Water Geyser

Spoiler

Eastern edge of the map in a caustic biome, slightly South of the starting biome on a vertical scale.

  • 6.1 kg/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 203 s every 362 s while active
  • Active for 69.6 cycles every 117.2 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 6100*(203/362)*(69.6/117.2) = 2031 g/s

South Eastern corner of the map in the oil biome.

  • 7.3 kg/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 186 s every 385 s while active
  • Active for 107.5 cycles every 177.6 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 7300*(186/385)*(107.5/177.6) = 2135 g/s

While far away from the starting biome, these water geysers are quite close together, meaning you can easily gather their outputs into one hot water storage tank in their vicinity.

1x Cool Slush Geyser

Spoiler

North Eastern corner of the map in a caustic biome. The horizontal position is approximately the same as the second water geyser above, yet the vertical position is the opposite (North instead of South).

  • 5.6 kg/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 171 s every 264 s while active
  • Active for 91.0 cycles every 146.4 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 5600*(171/264)*(91.0/146.4) = 2255 g/s

Combining all 5 sources of water (mostly clean, some polluted) together, this provides a total adjusted continuous water rate of 1088+951+2031+2135+2255 = 8460 g/s! That should be plenty!

1x Gold Volcano

Spoiler

North Western corner of the map, near the surface, in a cold biome.

  • 10.2 kg/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 36 s every 619 s while active
  • Active for 62.4 cycles every 103.2 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 10200*(36/619)*(62.4/103.2) = 359 g/s

This can be used as both a source of infinite refined metal and a source of heat for purifying water, powering steam turbines, converting oil to natural gas, etc.

2x Natural Gas Geyser

Spoiler

North West of the starting biome, in a swamp biome, directly North of the first Cool Steam Vent mentioned above. Already exposed.

  • 275.7 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 315 s every 720 s while active
  • Active for 83.5 cycles every 140.5 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 275.7*(315/720)*(83.5/140.5) = 72 g/s

South West of the starting biome, in a caustic biome, directly South of the second Cool Steam Vent mentioned above. Already exposed.

  • 295.1 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 583 s every 693 s while active
  • Active for 82.4 cycles every 126.4 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 295.1*(583/693)*(82.4/126.4) = 162 g/s

While I'm not a huge fan of Natural Gas Geysers anymore, these two are close to each other and the starting biome, and have a total adjusted continuous natural gas rate of 72+162 = 234 g/s, which is enough to power 2.6 Natural Gas Generators in the Cosmic Upgrade. Combining this with 2 Fertiliser Synthesisers will let you run 3 Natural Gas Generators continuously, which still provides a respectable 2400W of power; great for early base needs.

1x Hydrogen Vent

Spoiler

Just North of the starting biome, in a swamp biome.

  • 71.8 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 348 s every 537 s while active
  • Active for 69.5 cycles every 143.5 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 71.8*(348/537)*(69.5/143.5) = 23 g/s

This is where we get to the "meh" part of the map seed. Hydrogen vents aren't super useful due to their low mass output, but you could still use this one to power your AETNs, for example.

1x Chlorine Gas Vent

Spoiler

South Western corner of the map, just above the oil biome in a caustic biome.

  • 648.7 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 79s every 281 s while active
  • Active for 83.3 cycles every 132.8 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 648.7*(79/281)*(83.3/132.8) = 114 g/s

Chlorine doesn't seem like a very useful gas at the moment, other than to kill germs (which doesn't require a continuous supply), but perhaps you could turn this into Bleach Stone via Squeaky Pufts to fuel Hand Sanitisers? Or just vent it into space to deter oncoming aliens!

1x Hot Polluted Oxygen Vent

Spoiler

South Eastern corner of the map, next to the second Water Geyser mentioned above, in the oil biome.

  • 287.1 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 350 s every 590 s while active
  • Active for 54.5 cycles every 96.6 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 287.1*(350/590)*(54.5/96.6) = 96 g/s

1x Infectious Polluted Oxygen Vent

Spoiler

Northern edge of the map, in a cold biome near the surface. Quite centralised but slightly to the East of the starting biome on the horizontal axis.

  • 398.2 g/s while erupting
  • Erupting for 247 s every 568 s while active
  • Active for 107.5 cycles every 184.5 cycles
  • Adjusted continuous rate = 398.2*(247/568)*(107.5/184.5) = 101 g/s

Combining both oxygen vents nets you a total adjusted continuous rate of oxygen of 96+101 = 197 g/s. This should be enough to sustain 2 average (as in non-Diver's Lungs/Mouth Breather) duplicants if you can kill the Slimelung germs. Alternatively, this could feed some Pufts to create slime, which could in turn be fed to Duskcaps or be distilled into algae and polluted water.

3x Oil Reservoir

Spoiler

One can be found on the Eastern edge of the map and the other two can be found close together on the Western edge of the map. All in the oil biome on the South of the map, of course.

3x Anti Entropy Thermo-Nullifier

Spoiler

One lies in the Northern portion of the cold biome to the East of the starting biome. Another is located nearby in the North Eastern corner of the map. Between these two lies a small section of swamp biome. The third AETN is in a cold biome near the surface, North and slightly to the West of the starting biome.

3x Neural Vacillator

Spoiler

One can be found next to the Gold Volcano in the North Western corner of the map, touching the new Cosmic Upgrade set piece near the surface. A second one can be found just South of the starting biome, in a caustic biome. The third is located at the same vertical position but to the East of the previous Neural Vacillator, in a swamp biome.

18x Wheezewort (This may be slightly higher, they aren't always easy to see when they exist as seeds).

P.S. This is my first post here on the forums, so hi!

I can definitely confirm that the maps are different.  The seed I was using in ranch 2 had a cool steam and a water geyser right next to each other and just above the starter biome.  With a cosmic restart,  both geysers are gone.

I have found what looks to be a pretty good seed and I'll edit this post with the number when I'm able to.

Let me know if it's wrong anywhere.

Do seeds also include the exact same basic minerals, algae, metals, etc? Or just basic layout and geysers/vents?

The reason I ask is because I'd REALLY like a good Algae seed. Something with just an insane amount of Algae.

It seems to be the quickest, fastest way to produce LIME from Pacu eggs. And unless I'm mistaken, there is no other real late game use for Algae, so I'm trying to pick seeds that have lots of algae to get to the surface quicker.

If anyone happens to have one for Algae, share please :) I don't need all the details on geysers and stuff. I just want to fool around getting to the surface outside of debug mode before trying a long term attempt at a new base.

I have one right now with 40 tons of Algae in the starting area. The most I've ever seen so far, but it was found on my first try in the CU so there must be better ones out there.

If you like water, slush geysers and absence of crap vents I have couple of seeds for you (output numbers are average adjusted for eruption cycle and dormancy cycle)

That's a bump :3

Anyone know any mods that might sticky this so further bumps are unnecessary?

[Edit] @ImDaMisterL is this doable?  I intend to keep making new ones with each Upgrade, since each Upgrade breaks seed correlation.

I will post a seed while also as a bump.

Yes, I quoted that sheet and it's author in another thread, these four however are ones I checked out myself and decided I would try them so I can recommend them, they all ended up close to what I was looking for.  Good seeds.  Original credit should go to Terrible_Maintenance

One of the best seeds I've seen yet.

1995139698

Directly below the Printing Pod is a Carbon Dioxide Geyser outputting tons CO2 at -55.1C for slicksters. Will need to be heated, but provides a good way to remove heat.

Also directly down from the Printing Pod, a Cool Slush Geyser outputting 4680.6 g/s at -10C. It is directly above the Abysalite separating it from the oil below. The perfect location for a boiler.

This is by far the wettest map I have yet encountered.  2 Slush, 1 P-H2O, and 1 Water in addition to the 2 guaranteed Steam, all but 1 of the Steam seem to be in the upper end of their possible ranges.  Just from the Geysers alone you're getting up to 5,397.9 g/s clean water and 6,189.5 g/s Polluted Water.  The downside is that there's not a lot else.  Only a single Volcano (Gold), and you lose one of the AETNs due to template spawning overlap, so you only get 2 of them.

2 Cool Steam

Spoiler

Exposed Steam, about 50% of the way between the Printer Pod and the right edge of the map.

  • 3,034.1 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 522 s per 749 s while Active
  • Active for 95.9 cycles per 135.6 cycles
  • 3034.1 * (522 / 749) * (95.9 / 135.6) = 1,495.5 g/s adjusted continuous rate

Exposed Caustic, straight down from the Printer Pod just a little beyond the starter biome.  Immediately on top of the Polluted Water (food poisoning) Geyser

  • 3,005.2 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 531 s per 937 s while Active
  • Active for 117.5 cycles per 161.8 cycles
  • 3005.2 * (531 / 937) * (117.5 / 161.8) = 1,236.8 g/s adjusted continuous rate

3 NatGas

Spoiler

On the bottom left edge of the starter biome

  • 397.6 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 293 s per 632 s while Active
  • Active for 79.3 cycles per 140.1 cycles
  • 397.6 * (293 / 632) * (79.3 / 140.1) = 105.8 g/s adjusted continuous rate

Exposed Caustic, straight up and just a little to the right of the Printer Pod

  • 256 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 179 s per 414 s while Active
  • Active for 63 cycles per 99 cycles

Exposed Slime, diagonally up and left from the Printer Pod, not too far from the Surface

  • 311.6 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 451 s per 763 s while Active
  • Active for 66 cycles per 116.9 cycles
  • 311.6 * (451 / 763) * (66 / 116.9) = 104 g/s adjusted continuous rate

  • 12,300 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 186 s per 621 s while Active

Down in the Oil Biome, a bit to the right from center

  • 7,400 g/s while Erupting
  • Erupting for 366 s per 742 s while Active
  • Active for 42.4 cycles per 79.1 cycles

3 Oil Reservoirs

Spoiler

All are in the "troughs" of the Oil Biome, right against the Magma/Neutronium mantle.  One per "wave", all to the right from center.

2 AETNs

Spoiler

The "meh" one with the Gene-lock Door on the right side is just above the Oil Biome, straight down from the Printer Pod and slightly to the right.

The best one (only base tiles) is way up on the top left.  You have a pocket of Caustic Biome buffering it from the Surface.

You can also see most of the template for the smaller ladder-to-the-left AETN right on top of the Exposed Swamp NatGas, and one of the Vacillators.  In fact, you can tell the AETN template was placed first, then the NatGas Geyser was placed overriding the exact tiles where the AETN would stand, then the Vacillator was placed overriding part of the CO2 chamber that is part of the NatGas template.

4 Vacillators

Spoiler

One is immediately on top of the Exposed Swamp NatGas, towards the top left corner of the map.  Partially responsible for preventing the map from having a 3rd AETN.

One is on the left edge of the map, about level with the top of the starter biome.

One is on the left side of the Oil Biome, straight down from the Water and Slush Geyser pair.

The "reed cave" template is diagonally up and to the right from the starter biome.

To Bump this thread for newer forum readers, someone on reddit posted this seed asking for advise on how to utilize a Cool Steam with a Cold C02 geyser right beside it literally just to the north of the start.   seed 2800   Also has a chlorine close by, a minor volcano, a nat gas, an infected O2 in an ice biome (the cold kills the slimelung this is a great place for an infected o2) just one oil reservoir just above it a hydrogen vent, and due left of start a really good output water geyser in an ice biome for easy cooling.  This would be a really easy start.  No metal volcano, but I guess it's not as necessary now that there are iron meteorites.  Hope someone can use it!

The map that taught me how to tame metal volcanoes :p

I've found a seed that may be of interest to a starting player, or someone wanting to experiment with maximum difficulty settings.

I have not fully explored the map myself.  I've been playing max difficulty myself and have yet to learn debug commands.  But what I have seen makes it very useful for those settings, since it opens up the early game fast and easy.

Primarily this comes in the form of being surrounded on 2/3 of sides by caustic biomes with minimal swamp(avoided to begin with due to slimelung), has 3 sizable cold biomes immediately accessible(top right and both bottom corners), 2 of which can be reached without cutting through abyssalite.

But most interestingly, one of those areas has a cold biome, with a cold steam geyser directly next to a Heat Sink, within spitting distance of the starting area, to the top right .  They are visible from within the initial area.  There's also a copper volcano above them, and an iron volcano directly nearby.  Everything needed for early game rushing.

@Iriswaters you might be better off starting a new thread for seed sharing, as this one is several updates old.

Cosmic Upgrade has been superseded by Expressive, Rocketry, and Space Industry, so if you're looking for a current seed, or posting a new one, make a new topic.
