Honestly, I don't have many good idea on how to do this. The only thing I could come up with would to be able to "build over" an existing item. First you would build the structure and select the skin. Then instead of placing it down in an open area, you could put your cursor over an existing structure of the same type, and it would allow you to change the skin of a structure without having to destroy it and build it again. It seems like it would feel a bit clunky, but it's the only way I could think of to reskin a structure. I'm not even sure of the difficulty of implementing something like this either. If you get a gift during an event but you open it later, it still can be an event-only item, as it is determined what you'll get in the minute as you get the gift, not when you open it.
