Could there be more then the pig king to rule over people?

Recommended Posts

I know the title sucks, but what I mean is what if other pig king like people existed?

My idea would be a Merm who rides a Koalefant, and will give you protective merms in exchange for good weapons (tentacle spike and up)

What do you people think?

Here's another idea that goes a bit off topic for two seconds. What of there were special bee/honey items that wouldn't break but required a recharge? You could only get that recharge from the Bee King, who spawns after the queen bee is dead. :p

(by the way, I'm asking that because I'm considering making a mod about it, if people like the idea.)

Hint: male bees, drones, are there only for babies. So worse than a chess king to the queen .

I'd actually like more NPCs. Just not a bee king. I'd like human NPCs competing for resources.

I kinda like the idea of the King of the Mole People.  First, you'd need mole _people_--i.e., larger, more humanoid versions of the moleworms who live in large caverns underground only, like the bunnymen.  Then he could be THEIR king. He might be fascinated with the strange, exotic delicacies of the surface world (minerals that have--gasp!--touched _fresh air_ have their own special flavour) but I'm not sure what he'd give you in return.  Obviously you'd get less of...whatever for one simple flint than you would for a purple gem.

I'm imagining something like a large upright-sitting mole with a crown and a purple fur-trimmed robe, in a very shadowy part of the cave where you can barely see him, on a throne made out of rough rock. His eyes could glow creepily out of the darkness.

The Merm King/Queen...since they start off _hostile_ to you rather than neutral like the pigs, bunnymen (if you don't have meat on you) etc., they wouldn't give you presents or warriors to fight for you. What you'd get from THEM is a peace treaty.  One (acceptable) gift = the ability to travel freely through merm territory for one day.  After that they'll fight you again, because, seriously--what have you done for me _lately_?  ;)

Gifts would probably be like, spider or tentacle drops, as if you look at any swamp those three groups seem to be locked in an eternal war.  Showing up with fish or frog legs would mean INSTANT DEATH as they'd be terribly offended.  The Merm King/Queen themselves would have an especially rotten looking area around them, be a bit bigger/slightly different colour from the other merms, and your character would make some remark about how this one smells ESPECIALLY bad, even compared to the background swamp stench.  (The smell would, of course, be a mark of _status_ in their society.)

@mewthemew, hey, look, something similar to your concepts. @ScienceMachine had some similar ideas as well.

Only @ScienceMachine added steampunk elements. Which are utterly cute. The suggestions here have a more organic feel. I like both versions.

Now hold on a minute! I resent that fact! Gonna be a very pedantic here but I don't do Steampunk with my ridiculous Pratchett-esque setting; I try my best to do a parody of Terry Pratchett's Discworld setting -which I might add- is very lacking in purely Steam-powered contraptions. (A lot of it is arcana or complex, but realistically plausible clockwork. Hell, the only known steam engine is the newly invented train.) This all fitting very well with Don't Starve's down brand of weirdness.

If I'm going to make a war of monster races, I'm going to have to at least adhere to my own internal logic, and say that the monsters would be dressed nicely in civil war-era garments: Brightly coloured coats with tall hats.

heheh, okey. ^_^

also, your signature really goes well with that explanation.

This is a good idea, I would love to see a king of the Merms but he would need to ride something scarier than a Koalephant, maybe an Ewecus or the Varg.

Also, what about king of the tentacle... not literally a king but like a boss that spawns them or controls them or something like that you could find or summon in the swamp biome.... maybe like a big spotted hive that is protected but a bunch of tentacles

I think this would be good to, but 'd add it more as maybe a pack leader (another mod idea I have)

ALso, I have one lst shot at something a but more original. What if there was a king of the rock lobsters? (I know the rock lobsters aremore wild, but I think at one point they were the ancient race that lived in the ruins.)

I would include special ruins tools, that wouldn't break ( as you'd need to find them)but recharge them. You'd get this charge from the rock lobster king, in exchange for precious games to feast on :D

In single player, I used to think that the giant tentacles underground were the roots of the tentacles that appeared in the swamp. Sometimes a giant one one would be missing even though I hadn't  killed it, which made me wonder if killing one up top would cause an underground one to diasappear.

Ohmygod, yes!  I thought I was the only one who thought that!  :D

Actually I have a few theories about how the underground and aboveground "connect", including:  Places where evil flowers grow...are above nightmare fissues.

oooo...!

I still kinda think the giant tentacles and smaller ones are connected somehow.

I'm pretty sure the updates "motto" was something like "discover what lies beneath the tentacles". It was at least said. It sounds familiar.

Wickerbottom's quote when inspecting Big Tentacles is enough evidence for me :p

With the old bee queen usurped, another must take her place. Under the rule of Her Grace, the new Bee Queen, all can trade for honey and/or honeycombs! Praise her.

Sounds like the Queens have become something like the witches from Oz. This bee reminds me of Glenda. :wilson_ecstatic:

Hi:3

Also I'm pretty sure the tentacles are in fact connected,as sometimes when you attack a ground one it spawns multiple around you

..or I just have bad luck

...and may I assume we're talking about the _book_ version of the Oz witches?  Because the orignals (both the characters and the books themselves) are _much_ darker and spookier...or at least, Somebody You Don't Mess With.

Oh.  Wow. HOW the phrack did it take me _this long_ to connect the original Oz books and Don't Starve, style/feel-wise?!  Wow.  I mean, the books are sillier and more lighthearted, but there is some _dark stuff_ in there and they were even written during the 1900's..Maxwell's era!  Now I'm imagining some weird crossover or something where Charlie is Princess Ozma* grown up gone wrong, and Woodie is, of course, the Tin Woodsman...

...and Maxwell is THE WIZARD!  Pretends to be all that, really got his power from something that wasn't his*...hmmm...

And there are totally all kinds of villages/settlements of all kinds of weird creatures...

Sorry, shutting up now.  I've gone off topic.  : P

*Yes, the original was a flat-out charlatan, so it's not _quite_ an exact parallell.  BUT...
