Pet skins

Recommended Posts

The pet isn't really an object separate from the player, though. A backpack or hat or torch can be used by anyone, but a pet is almost like a character skin. I would guess that once you made the pet, it would remain as is, but if you no longer had the skin you wouldn't be able to make another one in the future. And as it is, you can't make a pet for another player, anymore than you can dress another player in your shadow armor.

Still don't quite understand.

Oh, I go visit your server and craft you pretty baubles! @Kittydub, I can't do fairy, so I guess I'm going to stick to witching.

I think it's gonna be the same as if you would start a world with an elegant head and then you trade the head away. I think it's reverts you back to the original skin, if I remember correctly.

Agreed. That's what I'm wondering about. Is it like a head? If so, Christmas is over before it started. But what if it actually works like a backpack: you sure can only craft a skinned broodling while you're borrowing mine, so after you return it, it's no longer available, but what happens to the pet?

While it's technically bound to you, the critter isn't part of the player (like clothing or base/head), so it's skin remains even if you trade the item away or sell it. You won't be able to spawn another one though once you've lost access to the skin. It should be functioning the same as a backpack or firepit.

Many, many thanks for the answer! Is it fine with Klei to let me try? I want something special DST-related for Christmas. My list of people I've got to find presents for lengthened noticeably thanks to the game. I won't be able to get each of them a wyvernling, but if it's fine to craft one by lending my skin, it would allow a few people to test it and see if they want to pursue it. Through trading, the market or sacrifices to the hallowed Potato Cup, you know.

Speaking of skins, will the silhouette be revealed before Thursday?

Yeah, absolutely. Fill your boots! Be careful who you're trading with though (maybe hold onto one of their skins as collateral), if they decide to not trade the wyvernling back to you, there's unfortunately not much we can do about that.

(Your game got me a couple of trustworthy folks I'd go as far as call friends. I want to give back beyond hosting and participation in the forums' life. I know trading happens outside Klei; but nothing pained, nothing gained, the risk is worth the fuzzy feeling! Aaand the horde of wyvernlings gaping accusingly at people.)

Hey @PeterA I've always wanted to ask why the only skins that have a broken/moldy version if left on the ground for too long is the backpack? Why don't we have broken top hats, moldy torches, or moldy bedrolls?

And if it's because the backpack is cheap to make and could be left at the portal for others, why don't we have moldy torches since you can make them at the start without a science machine?

Not sure about the torches, but I'd bet they are too dry for mould to develop, unlike backpacks often storing all kinds of unsavoury paraphernalia like raw meat and phlegm. I'm all for mouldy bedrolls and broken tophats though!

The backpack is the only one of the bunch without a durability.

Why does it go moldy at all?

I know right! I'd love to use things other than the backpack in my chest slot but if it ain't armor I'll just hold onto my backpack so it doesn't turn moldy resulting in me having to make another one and waste 4 grass and twigs.
