Why Winnie would work well in DST

Recommended Posts

1. Synergy with Wigfrid - Wigfrid is renowned as Overpowered (personally, I don't believe that) - but she can also work great with Winnie. Winnie would have the ability to herd animals, leading to an increased amount of meat for food. Not only does this benefit Wigfrid with more meat, it leaves more veggies that would previously be used as filler.

2. There's a lot of 'herd' animals for her to use to her advantage. For example, Deer, Beefalo, Volt Goats, maybe even Pengulls.

3. As well as the synergy with Wigfrid, her potential farming abilities make her an amazing addition to a team, being able to farm animals and crops.

4. She can get a cute little Shepherd Vargling

5. Ewecus and Ewelet could potentially open up to a whole sheep herd, rather than a critter and a varg equivalent.

6. To balance this, she would gain naughtiness much faster, be unable to eat meat, and refuse to hit innocent animals. For example, she will not hit a Beefalo, even in heat.

Potential Winnie character:

The Shepherd Girl

*Can herd animals

*Can make a Shepherd's Staff & Bonnet

*Refuses to hurt animals

Un-noted perks:

Can train her dog to herd for her (eventually replacing the shepherd's staff)

tiny sanity aura near wigfrid?

Thoughts, pls.

No...

She don't wanna hurt animals but she lead 'em to a butcher?

Theoretically in lore she lives at the family cabin in a rural area. She's a Shepherd, she herds animals. That doesn't imply killing them at all. It's just an extra perk to her.

Would like feedback on this idea:

Perhaps she could make recipes like Warly does, that take priority over meat recipes. That way she can use a tiny bit as filler when necessary.

E.G Carrot Stew: 2x Carrot, 1x Fruit or Vegetable, 1x Meat, Fruit, or Vegetable. - Meatballs equivalent. Takes priority over Meatballs.

Spider Salad: 1x Sweet Potato, 1x Berries, 1x Meat, Fruit or Vegetable, 1x Spider Gland - (I know sweet potatoes aren't in DST yet, but it needed something.) 37.5 hunger, 15 hp, 5 sanity. - Visually the spider gland would be squeezed for a dressing. She'd have a comment about how gross it is, though >:3

IF they're going to add Winnie eventually, I'd expect her to have some perk related to TAMING animals moreso than herding them. Yknow, Beef taming. When they added that taming mechanic, I immediately thought of her. Anyway, too sleepy right now to think about balance, just throwing that out there.

Also, will you and Winnie just get a room already?

I would actually imagine her losing sanity by seeing animals getting murdered more than anything and having a sanity loss near wigfrid if that was even a thing.

^This is the same I always thought about winnie.

Winnie whould be an opposite to wigfrid, a pacifist that makes unusual friends in the wilderness instead of murdering them. Therefore I believe it would be nice if she could:

Pros:

- Can craft a special staff that deals very little damage and lasts about 20 hits. In her hands, the staff has a special use (detailed below)
- Hitting a normally aggressive (non clockwork or shadow) creature with her staff gives her a chance to pacify them, making them allied to her for a day. (EG: hounds, treeguards, ewecus, depthworms, etc) She can only have 1 pacified creature at any given time. Only some creatures will be affected (no, definately no pacifying giants or ant queen). Chance should probably be 20%, and the staff loses durability with each hit. After the pacification is lost, the creature will remain neutral to her for half a day, and will turn aggressive again after that if not pacified again.
- Tame and ride some animals nobody else can (koalaphants, deers, maybe even ewecus)
- Being able to grow farm crops by adding fertilizer in winter.
- Sanity restoration effects of vegetable foods are stronger for her. (EG: if a vegetable based food normally gives 5 sanity, it gives 8 to her. If she eats a cooked green mushroom which normally restores 15 sanity, she gets 20. Etc.)

Cons:

- Can only eat raw and crock pot foods that are based on vegetables, honey, seeds, mushrooms, fruits, etc. Basically no meat or meat based foods such as meatballs (everything that wigfrid eats, she won't)
- Loses sanity every time she hits a living creature with any weapon (melee, ranged, fists, etc). The opposite of wigfrid's sanity restoration based on hitting stuff. This won't apply to clockworks, shadows, ghosts, or hitting stuff when riding.
- Has 120 max health, 150 sanity, 200 hunger

Ooo, that's a really cool idea.

With the similar facial features and the dietary restrictions, I still believe that Winnie was re-purposed as Wigfrid.

It is, so much that initially there are rumors she was going to be vegetarian, but they changed it to what is now wigfrid. So I really don't imagine Klei would bring her into the game, unless they completely redesign her.

Well, there's already a mod version of her, which I'm happy to say seems to be still working just fine this far into the New Reign beta.  In this version, she's a STRICT vegetarian--like with Wigfrid but opposite (she just plain refuses to put anything with meat in it into her mouth even at the point of death) and...

--starts off with a shepherdess staff and bonnet that can make ewelos follow her

--but they perish after being equipped for a full a day

--but they're recraftable

--The bonnet by itself helps regen her sanity, but if you equip that WITH the staff, the ewelos will follow you for a while but her sanity will slowly drain instead

--Ewelos will appear on the map if you have the mod activated in your game (at world-gen), whether or not anybody's currently playing as her. They're pink fluffy non-hostile ewecuses that drop cotton candy (candy floss) when they die, as well as meat, and won't attack you unless you attack them.  The cotton candy restores sanity and takes away one hp like taffy--this is how I actually freaking DIED of candy that one time.  (laugh) They hate them the hell out of some hounds.  In my game, ewelos tend to spawn near ponds and run afoul of frogs a lot.  : P

--Crops actually do grow faster around her as the mod description says; they're not kidding. Unfortunately...this STILL doesn't apply to winter.  But it'll give you more food than you know what to do with in the other seasons.

--And yes, she does indeed suffer a sanity penalty for attacking things!

All in all...while not perfect, I rather like this version.  Her perks and problems are kinda balanced juuuuuuust right, for a Don't Starve character. She's got some useful-in-some-situations perks and a BIG, strong, really do have to figure out how to play around it, drawback.  Which is about the difficulty level Don't Starve characters should be, in my opinion.  I've tried playing as her once and you have GOTTA know what you're doing, in the winter.  She is _hard_ to keep alive in that season.

Definitely not a typical overpowered mod character!  That's why she's the only fan-made mod character in my game. That, and the fact that she's based off of original Klei artwork rather than some completely clashing anime style or something.

All that SAID, some of these other ideas are cool too.  Especially the more-herding/riding thing...some of the animals you guys are suggesting weren't even IN the game when the mod was first written, after all.

Crivens, no.

Is it just me who thinks the eleven characters we've got are enough and there are many more welcome things than trying to resuscitate old scrapped designs? Like, but not limited to, Winnie, She Who Became Wigfrid?

I agree overthere.
I honestly don't believe there is a need to resurrect scrapped characters into DST, unless you want to see what happened in SW happen on DST, aka, people disliking them for several reasons because they don't equal or meet the capabilities the current main ones have.

And besides, come on, we have a workshop RIDDLED with modded characters, by technical means you don't have just the main characters, heck you can mod your own ideas, this is why DST and DS are so mod friendly, you can completely modify the game if you have the knowledge and motivation.
