Maybe it's because he applauded a skeleton once when I examined it, or maybe it's because he leans onto thin air with a "know-it-all" face when he "describes" guano. I love the fact that I have to search for every last grain of seed to stay alive for the first few days when I'm looking for that one gold to make a science machine. In single player, Wes presents a welcome challenge for experienced players. But in DST and from a team play perspective, everything about him sucks. He provides no benefit to the team AT ALL. Anything Wes can do, Wilson can do better. Bear in mind that I'm talking about Survival mode, not Endless or Wilderness, since in those modes no one really cares about teamwork anyway. When I'm itching to play as Wes on a survival server, I always try to find ways to prove my worth. I don't want to be that guy that everyone silently blames for the team's demise, when it ultimately happens. How do you guys feel? Both in playing as him, and finding that another player on your team is playing as him? Do you groan at his presence? Or do you embrace your inner Wes-ness? Naturally, I don't mind Wes, so long as he doesn't start with his stupid balloon tricks. Balloons are such a waste of rubber. VexTheHex Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 I had a long lasting Wes game that ended with cave exploration turning into psycho monkey slaughtering the team. Nobody complained about me being Wes, but it was also among friends. And well I'm the host to, so I don't got to worry about being kicked or banned for being him. Public servers? I think I went Wes once. And I was met with "Why Wes?" So, there is a risk in being him. Though I also want to slap them cause I mean, why anyone besides Wigfrid? She is obviously the broken one without any REAL negatives. Maybe they could give Wes's balloons a small, non stacking sanity aura for other players. I don't mind any character joining the team, but I do shrug a little at 3-4 Wigfrids. Snowhusky5 Posted February 9, 2016 Share Posted February 9, 2016 Personally, I don't really care that much if someone plays Wes, as long as they understand that his balloons are completely useless too overpowered to use and feel good about yourself. Some people might be annoyed that the Wes player didn't pick a character which could help the base in other ways, like how Wicker can make books, and Wigfrid can provide armor for other people, etc. My logic is, if you want to play Wes and can have fun with him, go ahead, but if you are not having fun with him, you should go play someone else. (Wes can be insane all the time, while Maxwell gets his nutritious-delicious nightmare fuel) On a different note, when I see Wes I expect the player using him to know his stuff. Myself, I like me some Wes sometimes. He has the best formal skin out there. So magnificient. Asparagus Posted February 10, 2016 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I had a run in with 2 wes'... it was now winter, most other players have gone to bed... I made a hermit's outpost in the desert... 2 wes and a Webber came in the server... 2 were genuine... the other wes just came to my base to rek stuff... fortunately I had all my important stuff in my backpack and other things have been prebuilt... they died from nightmares and the Wes and Webber who were playing well cursed the other wes and well, I just danced around them... Wes is already the rarest character i see, and 90% when i see one it's always that completely inexperienced player that only picked him to see what "baloonmacy" does. Then he makes 200 ballons, gets insane, dies, asks what Wes is good for, realizes he is joke/challenge character, promises to never use him again and leaves the server. But that's just my experience with Wes players and it's not the character fault, i don't care if you gimp yourself by playing Wes as long as you help. You can be a hindrance to the team with any character. That "nooby Wigfrid that doesn't know how to use the pot and keeps making monster lasagna" or "that clueless Wolfgang that loots the entire fridge in order to stay mighty all the time" are way worse than Wes IMO. I think the last time I did, he had joined, left balloons in random places on the map and left. Every few days we'd find a balloon. It was kind of funny, really. Bottom line for me is I don't really care who you play as long as you're not being a dingle. Maybe his silence could prevent bunnies and birds from running away when he's near? That'd be a pretty good bonus.
