UPDATED - Studio Note & Rhymes with Play Streams Temporarily Canceled.   03/06/2020

UPDATE (3/19/20): Just a quick note regarding the team at Klei Entertainment. As noted previously, everybody at Klei Entertainment is working from home due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Many of us have been working especially hard to help maintain operations as we all move out of the office and into our homes and with everything being done online, extra time must be spent in organizing conversations and trying to maintain communication. As some of you may know, we have a very open office and we are almost always in contact with each other as we go about our days. Some of us work across multiple teams and that work has become a bit more challenging for everybody.   That being said, at this time the transition has not caused any major disruption in our operations, but it would be overly optimistic to expect that we won't have any delays at all. We're going to have to be especially mindful about this in the coming weeks and make sure we don't take on too much work so we can keep things running smoothly.  We will let you know as we see how these changes affect our timelines.  Thanks UPDATE (3/10/20):
The test yesterday went well. We got the whole office (mostly) to work from home without significant issue. As a result, Klei Staff that can work from home have been asked to do so until further notice.  This means that we will have to cancel the Rhymes with Play stream until we are all back in the office. This shouldn't affect anything else at least in the short term, but if things change I will update you all here.  Original Post: Hey everybody,  This Tuesday March 10th, 2020 the entire staff at Klei will be working remotely for 1 day in an effort to prepare the studio to work remotely for a little while if the need arises.  Klei is already set up pretty well to allow for working remotely, however we are going to have a one day "dry run" with the whole studio so that we can identify and avoid any issues or downtime that may arise should choose to implement a work from home policy due to COVID-19 outbreak concerns. Unfortunately this does mean that we will be canceling the “Rhymes with Play” Art stream this coming Tuesday, however unless the situation changes we expect everything at the studio to be back to normal Wednesday and we’ll continue our regular stream schedule Thursday March 12th. If the situation changes at all, we'll let you know. Thanks for your understanding.

  1. YES!!! So excited to check out the haunted shipwrecks! Are they always in the world or can they only be unlocked during specific times like full moons?
  2. So I just realized, with this new update, 99% of hosts will never see console text from their client unless they disable multiworlds. It's kind of dumb that it's now default that console text won't be seen from the client. Is it possible to make it so that admins/hosts receive console info?
  3. Since you mentioned it, you've never been able to copy/paste console commands in the linux build. Pls Klei, have mercy on us lazy linux users. :'/
  4. Thank you guys for pushing out this multilevel option so quick! I was afraid I'd have to wait until at least Monday. My netbook is very grateful. You guys are the best! The preset bug is fixed too. <3
  5. Is there any way to use the old non-dedicated system? While it's awesome that you guys managed to get it working, this does seem to be a bit more resource-intensive, and my itty bitty netbook is struggling mightily. Its fan has been on full blast, red alert. I did opt out of using the caves, so at least there's just what I assume are the overworld server and the client, but it'd be really cool if there's some way that I can just use the client like before.
  6. Agreed. As expected, the prices were a bit crazy right at the beginning, but they've mostly become fairly reasonable in a short amount of time. The ultra rare items are even cheaper than they were when we had the key system.
  7. If I choose a custom worldgen preset, worldgen completely ignores it and generates a default map. If I go and manually change some options without using a preset, then it does work. It just doesn't like presets anymore for some reason.
  8. I have determined that there is indeed a secret trade inn ritual that you can perform to maximize your chances for sweet loot. Dampe the beefalokeeper is just trying to throw you off. Secret trade inn ritual: joystick click, left, right, up, down, click, click, wait 3.3 seconds, click on Dampe's nose 3 times, then trade!
  9. Seeing the current skin prices is comical. Commons and classies are selling for multiple dollars. I really hope nobody is dumb enough to buy for these prices. Oh, and on the mac version, DST's title is "simple directmedia layer" edit: and I don't think the worldgen options are working. I tried to generate a blank map, but none of my changes went through.
  10. Also if you stunlock Sealnado then its AI bugs out and it stops attacking forever. You can just stand by it and it will act strangely and run away.
  11. Wolfgang would have double the value of Webber regardless of the market. All you're talking about is whether people are able to easily inform themselves about the worth of their items. Like right now Wigfrid seems to be the high-priced GoH for whatever reason, but since there's no market you can find people who aren't aware of Wigfrid's worth, so you can rip them off and trade for less than what they'd be able to get. Remember, the market isn't what will give rise to the disparity in worth; all it will do is inform people so they know the worth of their items.
  12. What's to stop Ralphie Yoyo from doing that right now?
  13. So much this. The only argument I've seen those against the market make is some nebulous fear that it'll turn into tf2, but people are ALREADY idling and selling/buying skins for money. By putting it on the market officially you just discourage sharking. And I don't know why people are so against Klei making a small profit. They straight up gave away thousands of copies of DST when it launched, and they underpriced Shipwrecked by quite a lot. I don't know what else they have to do to prove that they're the good guys. Considering that people are already buying/selling skins, putting it on the market just seems like the sensible thing to do moving forward. It informs people what things are generally worth so that they don't get taken advantage of. Whatever other solutions there may be, I think the market is a necessary component.
  14. Yes... but there are thousands of players, so the total playtime and number of skin drops to pull from is vast. I think the point is that for any one player, it's entirely possible to never receive an elegant drop. It isn't a certainty. And in fact there are lots of people who still haven't received a single elegant drop. Of course if you examine an entire population then the likelihood for even unlikely scenarios skyrockets. I don't know if this particular problem has or even should have a solution. I like @ItsPizzaTime's idea about there being a small chance to get high-tier loot when you do a trade in the trade inn. Maybe there can be a gambling option you can tick in which you fork over more clothes, like 1 or 2 extra, for a small possibility to 'jump' a level in tier. So if you're trading classies for a spiffy, there's a small possibility you can get a distinguished if you gamble.
  15. Hate to break it to you, but people already set prices. What the market will do is make it harder for people to shark newbies. At the moment, it's incredibly easy to take advantage of the legions of people who are unfamiliar with the general price of items. If they have the market available to them so that they can scope out what others are buying and selling their item for, then they can make informed decisions. The only other way I see this rectified is if Klei set up their own in-game trading system, but why go to that trouble when steam already has a nice, clean market set up? Also, I'm incredibly disappointed to see people accuse Klei of doing this for monetary reasons. Doesn't their long record of integrity afford them the benefit of the doubt? I do have some reservations myself. Currently you can trade several spiffy items for a distinguished, and sometimes even an elegant. Once the trade inn and steam market are opened up, I imagine the bridge between spiffy and higher tier items will be closed forever. The only way you'll be getting distinguished or elegant is if you're lucky or you pay money. I'm not really too fond of this future... I understand and agree that higher tier items should remain scarce, but I think it's imperative that this bridge between low and high tier not be closed. If you can find some way to do that, then I think trading will remain healthy.
  16. Shipwrecked Roadmap

So much this. The boats and water could be such a magnificent part of the game, but right now they are mostly just empty space that you must traverse to get to various islands. We absolutely need more water-based biomes to make the game feel more full, or at least more stuff to do while on the seas like allowing us to plant buoys -- maybe we can attach some planks to the buoys to make drop stations or something. Maybe some dangerous coral reef biome where there's a possibility of capsizing your boat. An algae biome that hampers movement like the spider web does. Spooky wrecked ghost ship area that only reveals and allows you to combat the ghosts and ghost ships during full moons.
  17. So there's this change in DST where you can't interact with things in the dark. I'm not sure why this was implemented, but can you please make one exception for the star caller's staff? The entire point of the staff is to free up inventory room so that carrying twigs, grass, and wood is no longer necessary, but if you find yourself in a situation where you'd need to use it like if you're in the darkness, then you will not be able to unless you create light by another method first which essentially invalidates the staff's existence. There's this really great panic moment I think we've all had when our lantern or fire light disappears, and we suddenly find ourselves in the darkness with Charlie bearing down on us while we're scrambling to make a torch or place another fire. Luckily you can make torches and place fires in the dark, but if all you have is a star caller's staff, you're outta luck bud. This makes me wary of going out without grass, twigs, and wood if I only have a staff as backup, and if I am bringing stuff to make torches or campfires, then why bring the staff?
  18. Exact same deal here. Myself and a few others have gotten 4 relatively quickly, but we can't seem to get the 5th drop no matter how much time elapses. I heard through the grapevine that there was a hard-limit of 4 drops imposed at some point, but I'm seeing people post collections exceeding 4 items; not sure whether or not they've been gifted the extra.
  19. That's true, you could do that, but then you forfeit a permanent cave world until you're satisfied with the amount of horns that you have. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to start a cave base right away without having to wait because you have to regenerate a dozen times? With several people hitting at once the guardian will be dead in a matter of seconds. It has just under 3 times the health of a clockwork enemy. I always imagined it to be the final boss: an arena lurking deep within the ruins with the ultimate beast waiting. Nope. Dead in seconds.
  20. I wish the ancient guardian respawned like dragonfly so that you could farm thulecite and horns. Also, please buff the ancient guardian in a major way. I'd love it to be another raid-style boss.
  21. Yup. Put her to sleep or freeze her, set off 7 gunpowder to put her in the stunned state, then set off 13 gunpowder in that state within a few seconds to get a scale. Leave the area with dragonfly in pursuit to make her respawn, and repeat for another scale. edit: and of course you can achieve the damage output in other ways, but those are the numbers for gunpowder.
  22. No. Dragonfly is meant to be an end-game challenge for experienced players. It's not necessary to even go near his area. His drops are not necessary. I always find it amusing when inexperienced players come around and complain about how hard the game is. They think whatever challenge they're currently facing is seemingly impassible, but it's always the case that they simply can't see beyond the horizon because they lack knowledge and/or skill.
  23. Koalas aren't bad. I think people were just responding to OP's assertion that they are vital. I don't really go for koalas because my playstyle is more focused on base-building. I don't want to spend a day following a track out to the middle of nowhere when I can subsist just fine off the weekly monster meat deliveries and some berry bushes. If your playstyle is that of a roaming scavenger then koalas are probably more attractive.
  24. In my opinion, farms (the ones you craft) are the most inefficient sources of food in the game. The only worthwhile thing to grow from farms are dragonfruit, but mostly because of their healing potential. I could tell you all of the most efficient strats, but I think it's more fun to do your own thing and figure things out as you go. And even if you happen not to be a min/max type of person, and you just enjoy fishing or growing crops, then those are still perfectly valid ways to play.
