I would prefer that the gift could show randomly at any time, but if you were to play something like 6 hours (consecutive or not, you pick), you would get a gift for sure if you hadn't already reached the limit. I'm not playing just for the skins, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not wishing I'd got one by the end of a 4-5 hour play session, which I did today. I feel a bit cheated that I didn't get something that some people manage to get all four of in 1-2 days. So some kind of guarantee for players who are logging a lot of hours would be nice.

I think the 4-a-week limit is good, because it prevents the game from becoming an all-out race for skins. Some players would probably have nearly every item by now if there was no limit, but the 4-a-week limit makes it so that people who don't play the game everyday (such as myself) don't fall way behind on the goodies. It also limits who quickly the trade market will fill up with the rarer items. It seems like these GOH and Distinguished items are pretty rare. I mean, people are literally willing to trade several dollars worth of keys for single items at a time, which goes to show how desirable these items are. A higher limit/no limit wouldn't do much but make every skin common enough that it almost doesn't feel special to have something like a GOH skin anymore.

tl;dr -> Keep the limit of 4, but make it so you'll get one for every X amount of hours you log, resetting the counter on the reset day. I would personally suggest the gap be something around 6-8 hours.

Opening console voids that playsession. Like how sv_cheats 1 disables achievements in HL2 and Source games. Or only earning them where you're not Admin or Host

For the console commands, a mod could easily make you invincible. And negating them for hosts and admins is just stupid.

There's a lot of easy, EASY workarounds based off what I said, but sure, call me stupid not this 4 skin limit. Heh.

You forgot no mods. Anything that can be done with the console can be done with a mod. Also any such violation voids all drops for all players current and future. (Yay, a new form of griefing - join a server and just before the gift is about to drop admin opens the console spoils it for everybody.)

There are also more complex workarounds, and all ideas should be prepared to be able to defend against people exploiting them

without fixing idling account problem, pls no unlimited. game currently turned into a leave the game on simulator 2016. if that would be unlimited, u can see  dedicated computers just for getting gifts.

Perhaps the limit could be increased when there's more variety of skins in the game.I think its fine for now, although it does take a while to get them, sometimes.

I feel like this is the most likely idea. Once we get more items, I feel like they're going to make the skin limit more than just 4. That's the only way it'd be plausible tbh. Unless the current skins are going to be entirely replaced and no longer droppable, which I hope not...

Would you consider this a problem if people idled on private LAN servers so that server lists weren't full of idle servers, or do you think that idling itself is a big issue that needs solving?

I think 4 drops is ok, is ok for common players who play for a few hours some days, players who have work or still studying and have responsibilities, but for me as a sick fanatic that plays this game everyday for very long time lapses, 4 drops at week feels a bit unfair, especially when you get the 4º drop on sunday and no matter how much and how good you play, you will not get any gift.
Ok, maybe i'm exaggerating, I usually get my 4º drop in wednesday, if I get it because sometimes I just get 2 or 3, but the past week I get 2 drops in friday and the next 2 drops in saturday, almost a full week without the possibility of get more and the half of my collection are the same skins.
I want more skins per week but I don't have a good argument so... ¡devs!... tell me how are you going  with the in game trade system

4 skin drops a week sounds reasonable, especially accounting the variety of skins there are... I believe it's a sort of "workaround" for idling... having your character idle for an entire week will still only merit 4 skin drops...

*uncalled-for theory*

staving off on getting all 4 skins every week carries over to the next drop and grants a higher chance of getting better quality drops... "quality and not quantity" and all that...

jk... or am I? O__O

I'm perfectly fine with the way it is, I mostly work on my mods so my game just runs while I test code.  I like that I'm able to get my drops the same as everyone else, it's not that I'm not playing, I just have other things I'm doing during that time.

Raising the drop limit means I would have to dedicate more hours into the game in order to get the drops.  With it set at 4, once I get 4 I don't have to stress about it anymore.  Heck I hardly even get the 4 drops as it is.

I always disliked the drop system Klei came up with, because it's based purely on luck and randomness. Though lately, I'm hating it from the bottom of my heart. It's been more than 3 months now and I'm still seeing the plain old characters on the servers with barely any visual impact in their looks with the few exceptions of those lucky enough to get a spiffy item and even less cases of a higher rarity item.

Back in October I totally opposed the following idea but nowadays I would had rather payed 1-5 bucks for a DST Skin Pack containing the entire and upcoming skin collection, or under a dollar for multiple smaller themed skins collections for the picky ones.

I'm putting my last hopes on the Trade Inn. At the same time, as I've mentioned in the past, I really think that the game needs less hairstyles and more skins for craftable items.

And to answer the title, no, 4 drops aren't enough and neither would 100 drop chances per week be, as that would only make me more pissed off with the amount of common drops.

4 skins per week is enough we just need more head skins and items skins like walking cane, tam, krampus sack, etc. like ailailou said. Finally something for late game and not first 10 days because clothes are not visible after you make log suit, rain coat, pufffy vest or summer shirt .)

Wouldn't this make everyone look the same again? O.o Also idk on which servers are you playing on but on those popular public servers you can see pretty cool diversity already. Not from players with 5h logged in game obviously .)

I think to some extent it is arbitrary, because different people have different playstyles and schedules and desire to idle for skins etc. However, I think that almost everyone would agree that 2 is too little and 7 is too much, considering the variety of skins currently. So 4 is a sort of half-way point that caters to the whole DST community based on averages.

That being said, I have had weeks where I didn't even get 3 skins, and then some weeks where had they allowed it I definitely would have gotten 5 skins per week. Those times it annoys me that they didn't go with an exponential scale for skins, i.e. 1 hour, 2 hours, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64...

I actually voted the wrong way.

You ask a "yes / no" question in the title, where "no" would mean that 4 skins isn't enough.

But then you order your poll the opposite way, where "yes" suddenly means that 4 skins isn't enough.  It's really my fault for voting immediately after reading the title, w/out reading the actual options that well, lol.

I like to hope that there will be many more drops incoming and that 4 per week is simply a temporary measure.

Of course, I say that as someone w/ terrible video game luck (I've gotten many drops.. and they have all been the brown / blue lumberjack shirt, w/ the exception of the 1 time I got a skirt).

It was pretty much a running joke that when I'd get a skin drop, everyone would say "Time for another lumberjack shirt, huh?"   ...and inevitably they'd be right.

I was about the comment about the same thing. PS - I think they're fine.
