Reign of Giants: Is it worth the buy?

*kneels down in front of you*

Young lad, let me tell you a story.

There was once a day of peace. You didn't have to bother with overheating in Summer or getting wet from rain. The only true threat was the Deerclops, who was still a pushover.

Then... then came the Reign of Giants. The fortresses of the Players..they were all destroyed. The Bearger ruled during the Autumn. The Dragonfly ruled during the summer. The Deerclops reigned over Winter, and was stronger than ever. The Gmoose stomped over land during Spring...We lived in terror.

The giants prospered.

But then, a brave adventurer by the name of Wilson felled these mighty beasts. We had a huge celebration! Even the spiders joined in our festival.

Then, a young boy by the name of Webber accidentally angered a spider.

He was eaten.

He was never digested.

They're best friends, now.

Wilson tried to kill Webber's attacker with his Ham Bat.

...His ham bat fell off of the bone, a pile of rot.

A Catcoon ate said rot.

The Catcoon puked up wet goop.

After a moment of disgust, the entire village had a feast! They ate berries, drumsticks, carrots, and even the very-rare dragonfruit pie.

The village was prospering again.

But then, Biiiiiigfoot came down and crushed the entire city, killing everyone and destroying any signs of human life.

THE END

To make sure this post isn't completely pointless..

Yes! Get it! It's only $5, which is MORE than worth it.

Reign of Giants is huge. And very much worth it.

One thing, it is quite difficult compared to the vanilla version.

Even a hard core gamer may be tempted to press Alt+F4 in a bad situation.

Ahah, does Alt+F4 still work if you do it quick enough?

I would recommend it once you master vanilla gameplay(which I still have not done.)

Otherwise, if you hated freezing, you'll hate RoG even more with freezing rain, summer heat, and...I made the mistake of starting in spring and my character was pretty much as good as dead by day 7. It has a lot to get used to.
Don't get me wrong, the extra content is great though.

I definitely think RoG is worth it. Let me put it this way: in the vanilla game, I'm bored and give up on a world before day 80. But I'm on day 120 in one of my RoG worlds, and I don't see myself running out of things to do any time soon. So, yeah, there's a lotta new content.

I don't know that RoG make the game that much harder, but it does add a whole bunch of new stuff to figure out and new threats to worry about. So, if you don't know how to deal with most things in the 'vanilla' game, I wouldn't suggest moving on to RoG just yet.

The new content is great, and I really enjoy the boss monsters (though the goslings are a bit broken), but I feel the game needs more balancing now than it did.  In particular, I think they went overboard with Summer and adding weather and seasons to the caves was a bad move, imo.

A lot can be fixed with the improved world customization menu, but the caves (unfortunately) still lack custom settings.

With the expansion, I find myself spending all my time maintaining a basic level of survival and turtling in my base for days on end rather than going out and accomplishing goals.

All told though, I would recommend the expansion.  Mods (as much as I hate using them) can fix most every problem.

It resurrected the game for me.  I was pretty much done with Don't Starve before RoG came out.

It did the same to me. however I gotta be honest I haven't touched it  since april for more than a minute, but that's because I'm always waiting for the next update/patch...

Guys, 5 bucks can mean a lot to some people. Try not to reason with price so much as what they're getting, ye?

how can you say if something is, and i quote, "worth the buy" without factoring in price? If it was 3000quid it wouldnt be worth the buy even if it had double the content. If the question had been "is RoG good?" then i wouldnt need to factor in price to answer. but that wasnt the question.
