Man, this new character is taking longer than I thought. It's a lot more complicated than everyone else. I think any Maxwell changes are going to have to be put off to a future update. Boo.

Hmm, I await this new character with eager anticipation.

Since Wickerbottom shows that they'e okay with giving characters unique craftables, I think the obvious choice with Wilson would be to give him some way to do some sort of science with the small animals you can catch. Just like the trailer and his art. Also I was wondering if Wolfgang's new art is ready yet? Seems like it's taking longer than the other ones to roll out.

Well, they're ok with doing that, but they really just altered what's already available - nothing completely new. (and it's fine that they are doing that, just pointing it out)

[unpopular opinion]My 2 cents.

At this point we don't know if Wilson needs rebalancing. We've seen the text of everyone else's perks and drawbacks but we haven't seen how they play. Maybe the lighter is useless, maybe Abigail is an OP monster, maybe Wolfgang shrinks down into a funny-looking weak guy if he goes a single day without berries. We don't know because we haven't played them.

It's like any other playtest. It's called a playtest not a readtest. At the moment all we have is Kevin showing us shiny things before they're finished.

Let's see how the rebalance works before deciding how badly Wilson's beard stacks against Wickerbottom's books.[/unpopular opinion]

A lot of these problems with Wilson have existed for a while. It was just never apparent due to how similar the characters were. To update the characters with Wilson's problems still present seems kinda odd to me. Still, we'll have to wait until testing to really judge it. Edited by oCrapaCreeper

Honestly I'd rather see the new character than any maxwell changes. I believe in you! You can do it!Excited for this new update, good luck, have fun.

Why would we get two of the same character?

Just...out of curiosity, is this assumption based solely on Maxwell's quote with regards to rabbits? I've been assuming the same thing and I know a lot of other people have, but it's not really a smoking gun. Just wondering if there's more evidence for that that I've missed.

Well there is the fact that they do look strikingly the same, and that Maxwell seems to speak with British vocabulary.

Maybe Maxwell is a manifested incarnation of how William got changed by the newfound power and wealth he always wanted and is given by Them, and a really terrible event(my bet,Charlie becoming Gruesome) has made him realize all he ever wanted was to be happy with Charlie, and he wished for Them to change him back like he was before. They obliged, but with a twist, since they wanted to control their King. Thus Maxwell was born, with all the memories from William, yet his corrupted look at the world(thanks to Them).. William got banished, untill the next update. That is my explanation for William and Maxwell co-existing perhaps :)

The only way I could see it work is if playing as him took place before he was on the throne.

Playing as William (If he truly IS Maxwell) still wouldn't make sense. Maxwell mentioned how nothing was really there when he arrived, so you'd be playing in a world that he hadn't created yet.

Honestly, I'd rather see Wilton. Waverly, Webber, Winnie, or any of the other nown possibilities than Williiam. Or Woodie for that matter when there are vastly more varied others.

It's not Wilton. Kevin referred to the character as a He, so Waverly and Winnie are unlikely, and technically we haven't really /seen/ Woodie, Winnie, Webber, or Waverly, they have small unused assets in the game files, but there's been nothing else officially released by Klei that shows any of these characters. William is the most logical assumption, even if its unusual. And with Kevin saying he's "complicated" to make he may very well be a character we may have had the chance to see in the past update videos, posters, or other small hidden secrets in or across Kleis official DS content.

Well this was my theory regarding hallucinations and the back story to this game. I copied and pasted it from a steam discussion I had. Enjoy :) I was going to ninja this thread but had a powercut......Ok lets put on my thinking cap.Hallucinations are perceptions witnessed through the eyes of a certain individual. They simply see something that thier mind has thought up and believe it to be real. In this state we can say the person is not mentally right and thus they are counciled and prescribed medication. Hallucinations can be brought about by many factors some include stress, fear, past traumatic experiences, lack of sleep, lack of circulation to the brain. What we are experiencing in this game is all a hallucination. Wilson is seen to be stressed in the opening trailer. I believe as he slumps into his chair he falls asleep and is dreaming this or wakes up because the radio suddenly turns on and believes he is bieng spoken to thus hallucinating it all. He is obviously incapable of inventing something as complex as the door way through to this world. But as he sleeps he imagines a bieng called maxwell who is really an evil version of himself. It is in his dream or him hallucinating that he has made this door way and is trying to survive in such a harsh wolrd. Nothing is real. The other characters are all memories of his past experiences. Willow could have been his wife who was killed in a tragic fire accident. Wendy and Abigail are most likely his two daughters. Abigail was also killed in the fire that took away his wife. Wendy could have been seperated from Wilson during the fire and he now spends his time inventing things to help find her. WX-78 is most likely a child hood toy of his. Wolfgang is what Wilson imagines himself to be. Wickerbottom is his school teacher turned librarian. Wes is something that he fears as when we fear something we never really see them talking to us, just chasing us. And Maxwell is the evil genious that haunts Wilson in his mind telling him he is worthless over the tragic loss of his family. So everything that Wilson is experiencing is not real. Really he is just walking around the wood outisde his home. The beefalo are really just cows he has, the hounds are really just his pet dogs, Krampus is just the postman, gobblers are just the children next door, pigmen are well just the pigs he keeps. The tencales are worms, I can imagine him just poking them with a small stick, where as we are there hacking away with a spear! Deeclops is actually the nurse that comes to check on him. Also its not actually snowing/winter. When the nurse comes they take him to hospital which is all white. And obviously he once he leaves the hospital its already summer outside so thats explains why there is only two seasons. Those hallucinations he sees are actually the real things. It what is actually keeping him from completely losing it. It is something that he can relate to in real life. When we hallucinate we can think up of anything. So when he sees those dark hands trying to grab his fire they are actually trying to save him from carrying on living this dream. They are trying to pull the fire away and stop him from carrying on. So yeah.

Well there is the fact that they do look strikingly the same, and that Maxwell seems to speak with British vocabulary.

They do look similar, though most of the art I see it seems like Maxwell has a much heavier brow. I don't detect any Britishness to him though. I did only now notice that the boarding pass picture is titled "Max-doc-1-web". That's pretty heavy evidence I guess. My thought was they could be brothers. Maxwell was jealous of Williams far superior magic skills, made his own deal with "them", and was trapped. Blames William, drags him into the world as well. Or maybe hopes William can save him. Meh, I guess I should stop derailing this thread.

Best wishes for you and the team. You don't just make fascinating games, you also support them day and night ♥
