who else is excited the character reworks are finally over

Recommended Posts

Actually…

im still holding out hope that they will port over the rest of the single player characters (maybe not Wilbur since we got Wonkey now..)

I’d love to play as Walani, Wheeler, Wilba, Wagstaff, or Woodlegs in DST.

PC players already can with Mods, but the only way us console players will: is if Klei decides to add em in Officially.

As long as it doesn’t take 4 years of time to rework/port them over.

Hopefully some exciting new stuff gets announced soon.

I think it's cool, but Klei should 100% still examine old characters. Walter is in a pretty bad place and needs a rework, he hasn't reached his whole potential and doesn't offer that much to the team that other characters can't do better or is that worthwhile other than speedrunning the shadow pieces fight. Willow, Woodie, and Winona also need revisits. I do believe we should slowly leave behind the character refreshes, though other systems could use some refreshing in my opinion. Combat itself is serviceable and fun but the simplicity of it means 99% of players will use Dark Swords and Hambats with very not too much inbetween, since they're the easiest to craft and offer high damage. More viable combat gimmicks would be great.

I still want Willow refreshed with more fire …

But I’m pessimistic that they’ll replace what was once character rework time with anything exciting. Now that I think of it, I never did find out how to find monkey area with relaxed meandering.

Yes and no. Yes because not having to spend the time coming up with stuff for characters and now content that can be experienced by everyone.
No because I really really want Willow, Woodie, and Winona to be re-refreshed.
Willow more Pyromaniac, Woodie+Lucy combo (keep the current forms those are fine as is I just want Lucy to have some agency), Winona... anything?

I think characters like wurt and wormwood could still stand some changes for example.

More than Walter, or Winona?

Don't get me wrong, every character always has room for improvement, but I think Wormwood and Wurt specially are in a decent spot ATM after their QOL buffs, when compared with other attention neglected characters.

I hope that in the next content updates, once and then, the characters that are in a bad place like Walter, get some community inspired buffs (EG slingshot buff). No need for whole reworks. Just tweaks once and then.

I'm happy in the sense that every character has gotten a rework. As a Maxwell enjoyer I didn't like seeing so many people want Klei to take a break from reworks after their main was reworked, while other characters weren't reworked yet.

Wormwood is ok, but after playing around him a lot it feels like you can do about anything he can do better on a different survivor. I actually forgot about the Wurt QOL so I'll hold my judgements on that till I give it a whirl.

Either way I feel like most of the survivors are in a good place except for like, 4 or 5 of them. I do think they should still get attention, but I'd agree that they probably don't need as much as the original refreshes. For example I think Winona would only need 1 more useful structure to be a good character.

Wurt's QoL actually fixed about every problem I had with her, and even more. (best change was still the hat fix though)

notable mentions: merm king looses hunger 2 times slower now (only 25 a day now) and his eating animation length is based on hunger value of food, merms are befriended in groups(up to 2 additional merms for regular, up to 5 additional merms for loyal guards), Merm king's drops were tweaked a little (rot replaced with reeds, gold for ocean fish, more stuff for heavier fish), frogs are now neutral towards Wurt and merms, clever disguise lasts longer (15 days).

there were a few more changes, but those are the more relevant ones. all in all, I'd say it made playing as Wurt even more enjoyable than it was.

They really need to rework Webber again because Wurt is him but better

He was meant to be a type of character that benefit playing with other webber more than with other character, which I really like
but Wurt also does that and she does it much better

so Klei turns him into a neutral type of character yet having everything worse

- his "friendly spider" still get in the way of other character, they just not meant to live with them, so making them friendly is not really useful at all, I still prefer Webber putting his den far away from base when playing (unless I also play Webber)

- his spiders are weak, can't kite and only be somewhat "powerful" in huge quantity, which also turn him into a lag machine (then 3-4 AoE hit from boss is enough to nuke them all)

honestly, Wurt standing in a frog rain is almost as good as Webber and his spider army

- able to eat Monster Meat/Jerky and Monster Lasagna is not useful at all

Webber just got silently buffed with Wilson rework. The nitre Wilson can create allows Webber to have easier access to spitter spiders, which are much better against bosses, specially when paired with nurses.
About the lag he makes I agree, but I am not sure if there is a solution for that, I think they tried to fix that by allowing us to give the spiders helmets, so you could have a lower number of more resistant and self healing spiders. Technically that kinda works, but I don’t think many people uses that because of how expensive that can be.

Wormwood IMO has a few things going for him that are better than other characters: He has easier access to living logs and dark swords throughout the whole game, I’ve played with efficient wormwoods that would create mostly every day a lot of living logs and then sleep the damage away, you can have a surplus of living logs for a team since the very early game which enables quick access to dark swords, starcallers, batbat and deconstruction staves, which not even Woodie can supply as quickly and efficiently.

His armor is now very good against hordes of enemies, specially against bee queen, and it works much better when on a team where everyone is wearing one.
He has a nigh permanent speed boost he can build up, which makes him well suited as a backup combat character. And he has the farming perks which save time in the early game, but he can make a more efficient farming throughout all game and feed a team of players easily.

He’s also now getting indirectly buffed when teaming up with Wilson since Wilson can supply nitre, which gives WW a powerful healing, easier access to speed, and powerful fertilizer for getting giant crops.

WW mains would disagree probably, but I think he is a team/support oriented character, although he can do things on his own very well, but his perks shine more on a team. So if you’ve been playing solo and he feels a bit dull at times I feel you, it has happened to me too. But on a team an experienced wormwood is amazing.
