1. Needs his help

2. Is testing him (loyalty, greed, etc)

3. Is simply toying with him in order to strain the casts' relationship with each other.

4. It's some part of charlie subconsciously asking for help.

Can't wait for the next lore update, it will be a very spicy one.

Personally I feel like Maxwell thinks it's Charile he's teaming up with but it's actually them. I feel like part of their main goal was to get the throne but they wanted Maxwell as a vessel not Charile but since Maxwell was already bound they couldn't get him and instead took Charlie, however they now have the throne but not Maxwell who is likely far easier to corrupt and manipulate.

That aside Maxwell is kind of tragic in his current state unlike the other survivours he doesn't really have a ability to rely on nor does he have the level of accomplishment Wilson had in dethroning him. His main contribution is using a book that is directly tied to a force trying to destroy them, working with people who rightfully hold a grude against him, in a world plastered in his past failures for someone as power hungry and dependent on the codex as he is it's kind of no wonder he took the first chance he got to regain even a little of his former glory.

I do feel like his loyalties be tested alot soon but maybe he'll side with the survivors in the end.

I feel like his choice was an unconscious one, if not then maybe for a different reason.

His time with the others has changed him and he was slowly coming out of his shell, remorseful for his actions and the things he'd done in the past as King, there's no way he'd fall for something like this twice after the kind of things he's been through with Them.
Whether or not he wanted it he has it now, and only he knows what he'll to do with that kind of power.

I was here when the William Carter puzzles were uncovered piece by piece and seeing this now fills me with so much warm nostalgy! Clearly there is still a lot of story to tell and I'm here for the ride! Always loved both the game(s) and the lore content we get outside of it and how they complement each other. I'm so happy to be here and see these updates and lore. They are amazing!

Servents despawning when there's still work to do. Seems like if they don't hand off resources they will despawn.
imo the servents should keep doing work and drop items when full inventory and wait for you to return to hand off items to you

Same here, I was a part of all that myself. Title fairy himself even edited one of my posts to help push a certain puzzle forward

As someone here since DS beta I love how far the lore has come, I don't play as much anymore but world is very much in my head still.

Oh yes, I remember your name. It was a lot of fun to watch everyone with their various skillsets and special knowledge work together to figure them out. And you could sense how giddy the devs were watching us from behind the scenes. A clever lot, both Klei and the fans! I did my part too, but I don't think I was ever the first to figure something out so never had the honor of cracking a mystery. But that didn't matter since it was just fun to be a part of something like that and contribute ideas. The forums practically became another game - a game that I loved just as much as I loved the actual Don't Starve. xD

Good times! And it looks like there might be something hidden in this one too. Probably not something like THAT (not when Klei has been this busy already!), but something. I guess we'll see. ^^

But wow, the implications here are crazy. I imagine they initially tried to use the gateway to return home? Makes Charlie dealing the final blow all the more personal.

Extra spicy when you consider how the Shadow Watcher is portrayed in the early puzzles & animatic. With the Fuelweaver having that Watcher attack and all.
(Heck the 'clump' of Watchers could be the 'Us' that's mentioned—Multiple? Collective? Them?)

I'm curious, why isn't The Forge 1 and 2, and The Gorge in the Steam Awards illustration? They were amazing game modes players enjoyed!

My guess is it's because they aren't available anymore and you just wanted to share what can be found in-game.

I tried to use Shadow prison & then shadow sneak on a rabbit but it seems the prison cancels out the ability to morph him with sneak? Can this be patched please??

I COULD just morph him first and then prison.. but- catching him and then morphing should equally be an option.
