I'm a base builder on Xbox and can I just say that please Klei, spare my eyes! I beg you.

Rant below.

Spoiler

For context I have built the absolute coolest looking chest area I've ever made, however that is when reality struck, one of the chests in the second row was slightly more to the left then every other chest, and to make it worse after fixing the chest (after 6 boards and 1 in game day) I noticed that the chest below it is too much to the right, and after fixing that it still doesn't look right. What I'm requesting is geometric placement, or at least some option to stick structures into a grid like walls and make it a toggle able option. This isn't necessary and I doubt it might even happen since and I don't think this is a appropriate area to complain it but I just wanted to talk about my absolute frustration with this. Also I might post a screenshot soon.

.btw if you feel as if this topic is unnecessary or there is a problem with the poll please let me know.

i dont like this mod, i dont need a mod to place things close to other things, and using that mod and placing things just dont seem natural, alsol this is not an attack to anyone, but i have the feeling that sometimes, people that use that mod are extreme toxic when it comes to place things down, so much in fact, that they will destroy things you allready placed, and this comes from a person that has asperger autisim, that likes things to be placed good, so theres that

No cost too great, even if that item took 20 elightened crowns.

I agree, somewhat. I feel like structures and setpieces made without geometric placement have some sort of natural and higher value because of the sheer difficulty to make them look nice. But in the case of chests, where even the smallest irregularities is way too easy to spot, it becomes difficult to tolerate its imperfections especially with the scale they usually come in, with a number of chests surrounding them to compare to.

I'm not sure about the toxic online people because in Xbox 1, we don't have that, and 2, I can't play online unless I want to send someone's game to crap so badly that even if they kick me their game would run noticably less smooth. But I can totally see that happening in a PC game especially with how widespread geometric placement is.

I personally do it on pubs but on a few conditions 1. The extra resources needed to rebuild come from me, and 2. the intention of the base is already to look pretty. If someone doesnt care about pretty, I respect that! But if someone does want their base to be pretty, I'll help along.

I only jokingly make fun of my friends if they build something in a way I dont like, I wouldnt ever get genuinely mad at a stranger lol.

I build stuff like plants and wild life without geometric, because I think that fits better for plant life.

I'm on xbox and whenever the lag subsides enough to place a structure, it would be nice if I could make my base look good. However I would still prefer an in-game health bar option for bosses and enemies.

Yes, similarly to how Quick Drop was implemented in the game, would be nice for a form of Geometric Placement to also be added, perhaps with a toggle options to it. From what I've seen over my too-long pubs runtime, all dedicated and advanced Base Builders use said mod; generally newbies/casuals and rushers don't employ it or care about aesthetics, more-so in Survival servers. As a personal bias, when I stumble upon well organized, beautifully-looking and, certainly, grid-placed builds, my respect towards said arrangements goes higher by leaps and bounds as opposed to some random objects thrown in same space, the latter not even counting if it gets dilapidated from various causes (that I could have prevented).

I personally use geometric placement when building a lot, so I'd genuinely love for some similar kind of feature to be added officially. Of course it would need to be toggleable with the press of a key or something similar, since not every build is gonna work or look nice with a grid every time, but I'm pretty certain if it would get added that this would be thought of.

Geo Placement is one of those QoL things that I just take for granted as a PC player. It's such a natural addition to the game, and I have it turned on regardless of what kind of world I'm running.

Would be nice if console players had access to the option, as well.

In my experience, geometric placement somehow makes people create only square, inch-perfect farms and be mad at anyone without it who dares to place grasstufts. I like it, if everything is allowed to look a little wonky and if I need a grid, I like to use the display of the flingo range - this way, you can also make yourself a handy visual reminder of how far the range goes.

Make it toggable like how it's in the mod and that'll be great.....

Switching from PC to console that was probably my biggest pain I miss it more than having a cursor.

Makes building without a pitchfork a hassle, especially for me who doesn't build big but extremely compact if something sticks out slightly it will mess up the other placements.

Having things be uniform allows me to squeeze more things into one screen or flingo circle so I spend less time traveling screens and have an easier time managing everything.

I don't mind a messy look but without it the only way to build uniform on console is to have all the materials on hand and then build in a straight line.

Then move up and down trying to squeeze as close as possible to your previous builds and then go straight left or right again.

It's very tedious.

As for it being an item, I think that's redundant/unnecessary.

PC players will just use the mod anyways since it's client side just implement it how it already is to make the mod no longer relavent.

A toggle would be pretty nice. If only for the players who don't have the luxury of installing mods but still like the organized look.

Personally, even without the mod I tend to try and put things in as perfect as a square as i can because I just like the look. I like symmetry and I like neat little squares and patterns. I try and do it with or without the mod sooo... I think its a worthwhile addition in a game all about building yourself a base and surviving. If people like the more natural feeling of just dropping things anyway a toggle makes it an easy thing to put out of mind.

As for people being toxic online well... thats not really the mod or features fault. That's people. Also an item would feel kinda silly- its strictly a QOL thing with no mechanical benefits, and how many people are gonna bother making an item, and equipping it, over a small mod that requires none of the effort. An item would be more suited to something like moving the structures into a better spot vs. destroying them, not a placement grid.

I definitely think it should be added to the game, but in the way pausing was implemented. As a bonus option of maybe add a special key/button to toggle a snap to grid or whatever feature. Customization is always welcome and as a mainly console player I get so discouraged to make a mega base because it's just so difficult to get things placed nice. I did find a trick that helps some bit, carry a heavy object like statue. But yeah I would be really sad if this wasn't on the table for some of the QoL updates coming up.

For sure with toggle. I am constantly toggling that thing, or rather enabling it with ctrl or any other button when I need it. On my previous laptop I had lagg when using it, now it's just a habit (and to plant things faster).

I really like when base is made in some sort of order, with chest rooms in right places and else.

I played on console for years before moving to PC and at no point have I ever thought "wow I wish I had geometric placement right now!"
It'd be nice to have it in the game for those that would like it, but I don't "need it"

having it locked behind an item would be dumb, it would just make ppl want to use geometric placement even more. it should be toggleable button to go between the different modes like geometric placement does it

Having it as an option in the settings menu would be awesome, would give players a lot of ways to improve their base without having to download a mod if they want to keep it vanilla, and would be great for console players too.

I have it (the mod, on PC) but I still barely use it.  The main reason I ever would is because it sometimes allows me to place things CLOSER than usual, so I can squish an object in that I was _sure_ I had enough room for, but the game says lolno, without having to smash and rebuild half the camp.  (STILL can't build a damn lightning rod on my boat without moving the fridge first, apparently.  People who have perfecty efficient little tinyhome boats still baffle me.)

I mean, I'm not really known for my perfect-square nice everything in rows symmetrical bases anyway. I tend to just build near where berry bushes/grass tufts/saplings ALREADY are and go to them (that way, ONE fire can't take out EVERY berry bush on the map!) and build in strict "Eh, whenever I happened to need it and still had room" fashion, so...  I'm way too hippie-dippie/eco-slacker* to care much about things looking perfect, though I do _admire_ the really fancy gorgeous balanced bases I've seen.

I guess I'm on the "If it was toggleable or had an object you had to wear first before you saw the gridlines" side of things. (shrug)

...Notorious

*"Eco-slacker" is a combination of "Meh, good enough" laziness/lack of caring with honestly not wanting to mess too much with the environment, because things just look _prettier_ if left where they already were.  Dunno if it's a real-life architecture style/"Aesthetic", but I wouldn't be surprised.

intresting idea but sounds like too much of a hassle, especially when geometric placement would still be a mod even if it were implimented as an equpible item.

The fact that don't starve still doesn't have a built in build grid is weird. Even weirder when you realise that hamlet houses are placed on a grid so Klei could totally implement it super easily

I don’t think it’s necessary personally- I feel like having this ugly grid on the ground completely breaks my immersion with the game.

Just... Have it as an option? It's not like you're going to see other's grids.
