Wolfgang Lore!

Is that even actually canon though?

Its usually always Mighty Wolfgang who is shown in just about anything, shorts, art, etc.

I mean maybe he wasn't always big and that came with his years training in the circus.

Wolfgang disappears circa August 23, 1904, as per William Carter Puzzle #4, which tells us a newspaper clipping about his disappearance due to a "dangerous obstruction on the tracks" (and is what I think the short will be about, ie him being sucked to the constant).

We do also know that Charlie and Maxwell get sucked into the constant on April 17, 1906 thanks to this trailer, also courtesy of the William Carter puzzles.

Wait, does this mean that Wolfgang has been in the constant longer than maxwell, and likely didn’t get sucked in by striking a deal with maxwell? I knew about the train fiasco but I never put the pieces together, I’m really excited for his short now!

Also this implies poor Wolfgang didn’t even get told “you don’t look so good” by maxwell once he got sucked in the constant and was just stuck there by himself for an indeterminate amount of time (time in the constant is weird and independent of regular time iirc). Perhaps that’s why he’s scared of the shadows, he’s the only one of the survivors (excluding maxwell) to witness their uncontrolled wrath without someone on the throne to keep things in shape.

The figure on the poster seemed like Wes to me at first glance, so I've just kind of been assuming it was him.

They wouldn't necessarily have to be familiar with eachother just because they worked in the same place...but it would provide for some potential connections regarding why they ended up in the Constant.

Witherstone sold props; could've been involved with the circus as well.

If i recall Wes ended in the constant by pure accident.

He wasnt even chosen by Maxwell.

Yea, he ended up being taken in place of Witherstone, who...kind of had a loan shark vibe going on, and William owed money to.
Wes himself was down on his luck; there may have been events that led to that...and he seems to have a bad luck streak in general, getting mixed up in misfortune as a matter of course.

Thing is, Witherstone sold the kinds of things that a circus would also be interested in...so there may have been a point to showing him in Wes's trailer.
The circus comes up again in the William Carter puzzles; the crash between a circus train and a passenger train being the moment that the aforementioned vanished, and The Great Maxwell emerged. Strong indications that he was, in fact, on that train via the images revealed at that time...along with the poster that's been shown here again.
It's also the moment that he found a certain book.

Regardless of what happens with Wolfgang, actually...
We might get some Codex Umbra lore here.

Wolfgang was taken into the constant because he was probably hired as a debt collector for Mr.Witherstone (the guy that is almost got abducted in Wes' trailer), to knock out some money from William aka Maxwell.

This is supported by one of the pics from William Carter puzzles.William_Carter_Puzzle_3.thumb.png.5a8ae221f808f30323f7eb24e8266b78.png

First two pages are important here: first page shows us that William has an overdue debt to Witherstone, since this is 1900s, 7 dollars is a serious sum of money. Second page is probably from Wolfgang, notice how it has spelling mistakes and how crudely it is written, it means that person who wrote this letter is either uneducated or not a native English speaker, or both (Wolfgang is most likely German).

So the reason why Wolfgang got into the constant is the same as one as why Witherstone was almost abducted: Maxwell is just a vile man that wanted revenge (and playthings to torture in his world).

Pretty sure it was Maxwell who disappeared during the crash, not Wolfgang.

Oh shoot, I think you're right, since it describes a tall, nervous fellow, with an English accent. It couldn't be Wolfgang then.

I've been misunderstanding it the whole time.

I believe the missing man here refers to William Carter because it says the missing man was tall and had a British accent. William dropped out of sight for a while after the accident, then returned with the Codex Umbra.

Yeah I realized that thanks to @mr. brj responding earlier.

Years ago I thought Wes and Wilbur were from the same circus as Wolfgang.

Same; now thinking that his bad luck may have been due to exposure to the Codex/Shadows during the time before the crash.
...actually, the circus could go out of business due to Wolfgang going missing at a later date. Huh.

Hope we get some new knowledge from this trailer.

I love that the new teaser image confirms what I suspected all along: That ALL of the BIGTOP skin collection skins are from Wolfgang’s circus..

Thats a really huge lore drop- And it also makes all of his upcoming changes make more sense: He’s Always had his Circus/Gym Gear… same as how Willow has ALWAYS Had Bernie…

They Just weren’t officially added to their gameplay: Until their DST Reworks.

(you can prove this by looking at the character select screens from the original Dont Starve.. they’ve always been portrayed with these belongings/items.)

This is how KLEI has always seen their characters outside of Gameplay, and it’s great their finally trying to implement that personality into their actual gameplay. :)

Also Wolfgang’s “grows mightier on a full belly” compendium description is still intact: He still needs to burn through Hunger Meter to gain Mighty workouts- the more hunger meter he burns through the more mighty he gets (like how tents exchange HP & Sanity for Hunger)

He STILL gets mightier the fuller his stomach is…

Klei knows what they’re doing.

Still, Wolfgang was most probably in the very same train, and I hope we will get to see the Codex Umbra in the animated short.

i really want to see his military background and not much else my worse fears are "wolfgang works at circus goofs up gets scared by something is fired and maxwell makes a deal with him" but i doubt that'll happen

Same, I really hope that maybe it shows a little of the fact he was apart of the War or even the famine and thats why he feels like he must constantly be strong and the reason why he constantly eat from the PTSD he experienced. I know the trailer obviously wont show that and why (I believe he fled to the circus due to the fear of war and ran from it.) he joined the circus and got into the constant. It may just be light hearted and not say much more than the obvious, Wolfgang is strong man.

But the date where maxwell was taken, which was the San Francisco eq in 1906, came before WW1 which started 1914

The constant exist in its own bubble and time does not move, thats why its called the Constant. A long time ago it was already stated that everyone was taken from different times. Wolfgang was more than likely in WWI and grew up in the late 1800's and early 1900's. So yeah, and just as an extra reminder Wilson was in the timeline the last one taken, but each other were in their own sorta pocket dimension of the constant and DST brought them all together.
