I've been encountering players that describe Wortox in strictly one side of this spectrum lately (mostly soul based) but in truth, there are really two distinct ways to tackle his downside of halved nourishment- Mostly eating souls and suffering with sanity or treating him like Wolfgang and simply eating double the amount most survivors would consume- It's not like an empty stomach is something a couple meaty stews can't fix. So, asking to the forums how these two different playstyles comoete against each other in popularity.

Last time I played Wortox I just planted a flower at base and killed the resulting butterflies for souls. During the winter I'd kill spiders. Thankfully my duo was Wendy so whenver we went cave diving we could kill monkeys for healing + food

Early game as Wortox I mainly eat souls while giving most of the food I gather to my friends
Once we get a good base going I switch to mostly eating normal food, because by that point we have much more food than we know what to do with.

An exception to my soul-based early game is Soothing tea: while it's not something I'd actively search for, it's ingredients are things I'll endup coming by anyway: weeds always appear on early farms; some ice always gets left over from flingo prep and bees happen to be a good way of stacking souls. A single Tea gives enough sanity to chow down 7 souls which give enough hunger for like 1.7 days.

You eat souls and food mixture, eating all human food is just wasting food.. I guess if you just absolutely suck at managing sanity you might think that just eating food that in all honesty could go to someone else on the team is a good idea.

But hey- you guys do you, I guess.

I do a bit of both. Souls are good travel snacks when paired with sanity restoration, but regular foods work pretty good for base rations; Meaty Stew(s) work pretty good for that. Awesome thing about souls is that they're plentiful in areas that food may not be such as the ruins or archives.

What I really wish you could do is make some foods exclusive to Wortox that use souls and other ingredients to give a bit more options, heck, make it so you can only carry one of the foods in your inventory at any time and I would still use it.

Depends on circumstances.

Solo, I'll eat Souls early game/in Enlightened areas...
Otherwise, I typically have enough food to outpace the hunger anyways.
But I definitely favor eating Souls on Public servers to save food for the others...unless there's a Wormwood keeping really busy and the Fridges start overflowing. Or a Wendy/Webber farming Silk...which makes the 'why not both' option way more easily sustainable.

Generally I prefer to use the Souls for mobility though, whenever it's an option.
ZOOM.

Food's easy to come by so I mostly eat food, but I'll munch on some souls for various reasons. Some of their best uses would be for intentionally lowering your sanity, when you're in the ruins, when you're playing on a public server which has destroyed most of the good food sources, and when you just don't feel like getting more food right now.

Not eating the food is wasting food, it turns to rot then!

With a passive playstyle, for example doing base chores and residing there most of the time, I mostly eat souls and then either sleep in a Tent, or Siesta-lean-to. The latter drains the least hunger, so you can safely talk to your friends or take a toilet break as time passes restoring your sanity without fear of starvation.

It's for the best to resort and get used to fighting shadow creatures often as Wortox sadly, not only learning this will help you in the long run, their fuel is also very valuable and never a bad idea to have abundance of them.

Like previously mentioned, meaty stew is pretty convenient, no need to wait for your hunger to reach the lowest amount to benefit fully from it. Giant crops are great too, growing several plots of them is already too much food, but Wortox can just glutton away without staring sadly at spoiling cooked vegetables. (yeah yeah, bundles exist)
