Things you'd like to see added to the game

Recommended Posts

This has probably been done before but I want an excuse to talk about a bullet hell boss being added to the game.

Bullet hell boss:

Spoiler

I'd really like to see a bullet hell boss be added. DST combat has been pretty stale for the past couple of years, although boat combat and Crab King have been some nice breaths of fresh air, albeit with their own problems (there's like 4 things to fight in the ocean, one of which doesn't move at all (cookie cutter), and the others are rare spawns (malb and rockjaw/gnarwail), and crab king, well I haven't fought him since waterlogged so idk if the fight is better or not). I'm probably a little biased when I say this, but I think a boss that focuses more on dodging attacks would be an interesting concept in DST. Instead of standard kiting patterns, there would be an aura of sorts around the boss that constantly deals damage so that face tanking while the bullet hell phase is going on is less viable, (this also stops bone armour face tanking) and this aura would deactivate after a couple seconds of bullet hell dodging. Celestial Champion kind of scratches this itch in it's third phase, dodging the laser attack, and to an extent the sleep crystals, is pretty fun, but when you get into melee range it just becomes your standard hit and run style boss.

Unlimited durability weapon:

Spoiler

We already have beefalo which function as not only an infinite weapon, but also as ~cane + mag speed boost, and regenerating armour (aside from ranged attacks). Beefalo however have the downside of 1. they can't be revived and 2. cannot be healed whilst being ridden. These are far compromises considering how early you can tame an ornery beefalo, and how many resources they save. An unlimited durability weapon would not be too strong not only thanks to the existence of beefalo, but by making it a difficult item to acquire, for instance, a drop from the Celestial Champion. Or, if you really wanted to make this item hard to obtain, have it require materials from both the CC and AF. A cool moon/nightmare fuel hybrid sword sounds really cool, maybe it could have a chance to spawn a shadow tentacle and/or gestalt on hit, or it could raise your sanity while held to pair better with the Enlightened Crown.

Critter refresh:

Spoiler

Critters have always been lacking, essentially all being identical and only one of them having any sort of use. First off, I think the hunger mechanic should be discarded, or at the very least remove the begging sounds, it's probably the main reason most people don't get critters. Secondly, each critter should have their own perk. You could say that critters are just meant to be cosmetic, but then why does the lune moth provide an aura of light? A couple ideas could be a slight damage buff with a vargling, the ability to have a broodling cook food (similar to the lavae pet), a small sanity aura when near glomglom (similar to glommer), you get the idea, small things that ideally wouldn't affect gameplay too much, but to still give players a reason to get critters. If players rapidly switching out pets to get the best perk at all times is an issue, then a 10-20 day cooldown could be given to the den after a player adopts a critter.

Helltaker/Hollow Knight evasive maneuvers?

I thought Helltaker only had one boss, but something like that could translate well to DST. If I knew anything about modding I'd totally try and create my own bullet hell boss. A good example of something I'd like to see would be the Hollow Knight boss mod for DST, specifically it's leap attack where orange infection pillars rise from the ground upon landing.

A good majority of this game is pure HELL using an Xbox controller, I know that Klei does not design bosses and content with a controller or Solo play in Mind- But perhaps they should hire a team specifically just for making the game perform better with controllers..

I say this in a bit of frustration- as I’ve spent the past 2/3 hours fighting with a Boat and all the structures placed upon my boat, you can hardly do ANYTHING on a boat with Xbox controls it’s painfully obnoxious & it sucks.. As a solo player: Having to leave the steering wheel to run across the deck of your boat to raise and lower masts/drop anchors etc it’s just not any fun…

I strongly feel like all the commands for operating the structures on the boat should be operated FROM the Steering Wheel.. such as holding in A while steering then Dpad down to lower all boat sails or Dpad up to raise them.

Certain enemy “boss” fights are nearly impossible to do without lots of armor, healing and face tanking, it’s all due to the game being designed first and foremost with Keyboard and mouse controls in mind instead of a Xbox or PlayStation controller.

And I think this would become a reoccurring issue with wanting enemies with unique fighting techniques or perfectly timed kiting patterns. It can be done of course- but for the love of god Klei design the entire thing WHILE USING A CONTROLLER rather than what is possible with KB+Mouse, even if that means the fights have to feel “Lackluster” or “Scaled Down” for PC players..

There is a REASON blockbuster Triple A franchises usually release their games on console first and then later port them to PC afterwards.. it’s so they can make sure the content they’re designing isn’t too much more difficult to use Controller as opposed to the KB+Mouse setup.

With that said: I would love to see many things from shipwrecked and hamlet, mobs & biomes mostly.. For example: the swampy biome from shipwrecked where flurps randomly pop out the ground to attack you as you travel through the biome. Or how chopping trees has a chance to spawn scorpions or snake mobs.

Those are things I want.. less boss fights, more common biomes I’ll be fighting common every day mobs in.

Thank You <3

Or you can just build the boat in a confortable way

fuelweaver can bring problems but other than that there isnt much difference between using a gamepad to move, a buttom to change cane to weapon and a buttom to atack than using wasd to move, a number/mouse to change to cane to weapon and F to hit ...

Without experience bosses are a black hole of materials but when you get used to them you can go naked so that "imposible" fights you always bring is just false with controller, keyboard or feets

If the thulecite club could be repaired with thulecite you could have an effectively unlimited durability weapon if you carry around a stack of thulecite.

I would not be opposed to this, although the recipe for the club would have to be increased quite dramatically considering the weapon has the ability to be reused infinitely

As many skins as spears have I want them to be more useful then they are: they are a super early game weapon that quickly becomes outclassed… so it would be “nice” if there was a way to forge and improve them so I can keep using my cool skins I own for them and NOT feel like I’m using a highly ineffective weapon in the process..

I personally wouldn’t care if they required me to gather Moon Glass shards or Thelucite and to be forged inside a smelting furnace or something… I just want my spears and skins I have for them to be useful in the end game.

I also want palm Trees in the game.. And more non-peaceful mobs.. my biggest problem with DST compared to DS solo is that the majority of mobs in DST are peaceful unless you get too close to them or unless you attack them first..

The same can not be said for Hamlet or Shipwrecked where things will often attempt to attack you regardless of if you attack it first or not.

With the many changes Klei has done to the game lately (reduced crafting costs in weapons and armor, instant tame Beefalo with the ring of a bell that now follows you into caves, Abigail petal buff, Webber nurse spiders) this game DESPERATELY needs less “Passive” Mobs and to Amp up the difficulty to adjust for all those changes.

You'd be using the ingredient that's by far the scarcest in the recipe to do the repairing, I don't think it would necessarily need a cost increase.

It's been done before. Unsure if I'm willing to see anything else sprout from this category but it was neat seeing it for the first time. unknown.png

That needs about 20x more projectiles to really be bullet hell. :)

Swimming for most characters but with a RDR 2 style Stamina bar so they can only swim so far from their boats before having to return back to surface to replenish it.

Certain characters can also be unable to Swim just for uniqueness my choices for the ones who can’t swim are short- Wortox, Wanda, Woodie (unless in Beaver form)

Swimming would allow you to pick up loose items in the ocean like message bottles, kelp, driftwood etc..

You would need to use both hands to swim so you couldn’t use Melee weapons, pickaxes or Axes.

Swimming is something I would love to see done in DST if it’s only in Mod form.

I'd love to see some decorative objects featuring water. It would be cool to place some fountains for example, and if possible some sort of on-land water tiles like small rivers would be really cool. You could jump over them like when you walk towards a boat and auto-jump onto it, and maybe there could be items that interact with them- some sort of sprinkler you could put in a river that keeps nearby crops watered maybe? I always like adding water to builds in games like Terraria and Minecraft because flowing water makes things look cool and I think players in DST would enjoy that too.
