It's actually just an old version of the Pumpkin skin Wormwood has! Klei commonly takes existing skins (For example the Cactus one here) and does hasty recolors whilst they're working on the final product. Apparently the Surface Fuel Weaver was supposed to grow Mushtrees too! Alongside the other cave plants he grows, I found files for baby Mushtrees. It seems they would grow and wilt like the others, and could also be picked and would cough up spores! Spoiler Additionally I seem to have dug up what I assume was an early version of the Sea Weed Monster's vines. This is all that remains of it currently, however.
