A DLC Theory

Recommended Posts

Since the mined assets clearly state that there's going to be some nuclear stuff happening, what if the DLC expands on the story and lets the dupes build a rocket to fly to the destroyed Earth where they will have to battle through the irradiated remnants of the planet to survive and something something? :distant:

I don't know what happened to Earth in ONI universe. If I missed something that invalidates the theory then I apologize :distant:

Nuclear power sounds like natural progression after the fossil fuel and solar power we got currently. Some of the lore mentions it as well. Wpuld be a shame not to have it. But on the other hand we could use some sort of power sink. Currently we don`t need that much power most of the time. If there were some heavy machines using ridiculus amounts of power then a nuclear reactor would be a nice addition.

hasn't that stuff been there a long time?

Uranium and nuclear waste were found in the launch upgrade, so not that long but the launch stuff was in a separate develpoment branch for over an year so it might be some leftover stuff that was never finished.

Looking at how they have dlc’d don’t starve they can go in a number of different ways all at the same time.

And in particular, they will probably keep going as long as they have ideas and that may be for a long time. Really looking forward to that!

My guess is that they couldn't find a way to make cooling  the nuclear reactors a good game mechanic. Cooling stuff has been really easy/ trivial since they made the steam turbine.

I figure there's no point implementing nuclear power without modelling radiation. You could create an attribute to model material density (not hardness) that reflects the suitability of materials as radioactive shielding. That could result in lead being the most appropriate material to protect from exposure to radiation, for instance. It seems like the pieces are there. But I don't know whether radiation sickness becomes just another medical condition to manage, or the solution is just atmo suits.

The first DLC, I want it to convert ONI into a 3rd Person Shooter, the 2nd should focus on fighting game mechanics and the 3rd and biggest one must be a Rhythm Game!

I want it to be a mobile version full of surprise mechanics.

My guess is they rather started working on a radiation system and it expanded t the point it was a major system in the game (like germs or light), especially with adding natural radiation from stuff like granite so they decided to not add another half baked system that required at least a month of testing and further work and added it to the dlc list.

Multiplayer DLC ftw. (running away to hide now)

Haha sure. After that oni will become the number 1 competitive e-game title worldwide with millions for price money. South korea allready build a school where kids train oni so they make their parents proud. Go korea! My money's on them. The future oni-champions of 2021!

I really wish steam turbines got a bit of a nerf at low temperatures (maybe slower cooling) but were able to operate at higher ones (limited only by overheat temp, 600 C for a steel one) so that they weren't a "I just want to cool my base now" solution so much as the "I want to turn volcanoes into power" solution and then something else came in for mid-tier heat deletion. The current options just make too big of a gulf and it's too fast to cross.
