So ONI new content might arrive next Tuesday or Thursday

Recommended Posts

Since we might have a beta testing for full version at the end of June, which means next Tuesday or Thursday.

And to be honest, I'm really excited about 3 new biomes and end goals but hopefully rocket travel time could be tweaked a bit

What things excite you guys the most?

That would be code changes, which can affect my already released mods. Also it's more of a concern than excitement, though I'm not overly worried.

Secondly is code changes, which are beneficial to modding.

And I'm looking forward to see their solution to this bug report.

Content (obviously). New biomes, new art, new recipies and most importantly more problems to solve - that`s what`s the game is about.

I`m also excited to see what will happen with the planet protected by a force field (from the animated short). I`m not sure if we will get the lore explained in the preview but i`m waiting to see what all of that means and how it all connects to what we know from the lore bits already.

I would like to see a +1 range to build/dig on the research tab, or an upgrade we must craft or Something. I request this since day one.

im so excited to see which bugs the new update will bring

People have been screaming for more FPS. There was a mod, which provided more FPS, but dupes stopped eating. Maybe we will see starving dupes with the next test build because Klei actually gave us what people request :p

Just think about it. Nobody requested dupes to eat when they are starving meaning there is no request to not change it.

I'm all for bugfixes, and lots of improvements to the game. The game itself is in a good state, and with 3 more biomes coming as well as some kind of 'endgame', we'll have plenty of content, so all that's really needed is polish and fixing bugs.

I find it interesting that the most popular answers are bugfixes and improved performance. The fact that people don't yell about all sorts of "missing contents" tells a lot about the current state of the gameplay.

I say the new biomes are fine and a welcome addition as they will make the games more diverse. Currently there are too few types biomes meaning you often end up with "I do this in the slime biome, this in cold, this in... etc". Hopefully 3 more biomes will result in some maps where certain biomes might not be big enough for what you do with them, hence you are forced to think differently and come up with a new strategy. This will force players to do what the game is about: use what you have available and make combos, which solves your problems.

However what I'm most hyped about is likely the addition of custom graphic support in mods (Klei: you did add this, right?). We are way past what seems doable with reusing Klei's sprites and quite honestly Sensor Overload has become a bit silly in that regard as in there are green, red, yellow etc versions of the same sprites because the game doesn't have enough sensor sprites.

also, its always "i travel through swamp to get to ice"

but what if swamp wasnt available from spawn?

very few maps do not have access to swamp from spawn, but with more biomes, it could happen more often, so you dont instantly have access to swamp, but have to explore to find swamps. (and other biomes).

I hope they add some sort of pressure to make it possible to lose the game.  Something that will force players to improve their early to mid game because right now you can be just terrible at the base game and still reach cycle 500 because perseverance means more than any sort of actual skill.

well, if all your dupes die, you loose the game.

but 99% of the ONI players are too good to loose.

sadly, im part of the  last 1%

Hehehe, probably. Or rather we do not see most of those that lose. Because if you give this game to an average person, and they do not read up on strategy first, they will lose quite a few games before they figure it out and many will never figure it out.

This is not a "play half an hour in the evening to unwind" game, at least not for most people.

i've never had my colonists die.

because im not the kind of person who watches his base slowly suffocate or starve for 87 cycles, untill finally dying to low oxygen.

one exception is when i have an water-based airlock, or when i order my duplicants to build a pitcher pump.

Just open the settings ;)

Ravanging hunger with + 1000kcal/cycle is fun, but if you want some real pain you need to go the distance:

Spoiler

Downgrade your ONI version so you can once again play the old +2000kcal a cycle ravanging hunger.

If you look into the old forum posts, just a few players were able to achieve survivability this way and most did so by loosing/sacrificing some duplicants.

I have tried upping those settings and while it makes it harder to reach a stability point early once you do get stable it hasn't actually changed the difficulty much.  I think the game probably gives out too much in free resources from geysers and that the translation rates between various materials is a bit too high.  Those settings are really a bandaid for what I want, not a solution.  I'd love to see some sort of random events added to the game though I imagine they would have to be optional because some people would just hate it.

This is true ? there will be a preview ?

That's what Klei (Bigfoot I think) said a month or so ago when they pushed back the release. That there'd be a public beta in "late June".
