1. we cannot tell people what mods they do (exceptions with porno content and stuff like that obvs)

2. there is no consensus amongst modders

don't see what's the problem really... BTW this is not something exclusive form DST... any mod friendly game has a lot of mods that most people don't like.... but that's not reason to ask for a "cleansing" ... people are free to do and share the mods they want... mods are optional and free anyways

there is IMO only one very critical issue that Steam needs to address: copy paste mods... that is actually stealing from original creators ...

Well, my opinion is that it's Steam fault that make the Workshop a single space for any type of mods, but you can't judge the skills of everyone, they try their best most of time :)

So even if my mods are drowned by "PERSONNAL MOD, DO NOT USE" or sans, it's not a problem, you can subscribe to peoples and check author's workshops you like, that's what I do

A purge is rather silly. To deny the displeasing state of the workshop is even sillier.

I'm a bit out of the loop on this part but; what the heck, is there no top rated or most subscribed mods page? Or is that page just as garbage? The filtering seems broken and shifting randomly every day I'm in there. Zero stars among five stars. And how some mods get five stars is beyond my comprehension.

By the by, elephant in the room, perhaps DS simply don't have a very large, talented or ambitious pool of modders to do good in the first place.

I'd rather there not be a purge of the mods. The only mods that should be removed are ones that are highly inappropriate or blatantly and intentionally illegal. What needs to happen is better systems of categorizing, tagging and voting. Tags for language, OCs, crossover characters, etc. And a way to exclude certain tags during a search. 
I think there's an area on the forums for mods and modding - maybe there's a way to use the forums to form categories of mods to improve searches for specific mod types?
Pretty sure if I made a mod it would suck without commissioning an artist and a programmer. Lots of those making these mods fall under the category of not having excessive talent in these areas nor money to get help but desire to make their mod anyways. Instead of demonizing "poor" mods, we should seek to encourage improvement. As for languages, maybe have multilingual modders help provide translations. Knit the community together.

i've been meaning to change the strings on a few mods (Pickle It, that Thirsty for Tea mod) because of weird lines that sort of tick me off, but i'd need to get permission.

i've also been meaning to make my own mod that adds dandelions, but ehhhhhh. i'm lazy and need to learn how the code works.

Ahh, gotcha.  Yeah, my wife just had to have a mod taken off the workshop that someone uploaded and was passing off as their own.  She wouldn't have even minded if they had just credited her.

That happens quite a lot unfortunately. People think other people's work is out for the taking just cuz "it's the internet". Most of the time modders are chill and allow people to use if properly credited if asked for permission, but alas people are too faul to even do that.

Considering most tutorials actively encourage you to upload empty test submissions on the workshop, the blame isn't entirely on the users.

it's even better at ressource gathering than maxwell! But a complete nightmare to make a base with.

Have you considered maybe that's what they're doing?  A significant portion of the player base reads Chinese or Brazilian Portuguese, even if it's smaller than the portion that reads English.  Writing the descriptions in one of these languages still reaches a large audience with the benefit of being written by someone fluent in the language, leaving the possibility for future translation open; if you were able to translate between Chinese and English, would you rather start with a text written in fluent Chinese, or a confusing mess in English?

 

Regarding tags, something that hasn't been discussed yet is whether it'd be useful to allow people viewing a mod to vote to add tags, so that the workshop isn't entirely reliant on the mod authors adding them when they publish.

Strange, I was under the impression teaching people methods for decentralized grass-roots organizing led to anarchy.
