    • Yes, but in a controlled environment where I can stop at anytime

So recently I played Wortox and loved how his souls made you insane. I was basically eating souls and pooping out nightmare fuel.

I asked around in game and found that my feelings towards this mechanic of his were not mutual in much of the player base. Apparently people don't like being insane and from what I can tell it's a fairly popular opinion, at least for the casual console players.

Could we get a regular yes or no, please?

I prefer staying sane, mostly because I like to keep control of the situations I get myself into. It’s a pretty big pain being harassed by terrorbeaks while you’re trying to gather or build.

There’s not much use for nightmare fuel in the early to mid game anyway; unless you have a maxwell of course. I like to get the stuff that’ll get us to the point where we can start wondering about decking everyone out with magic, and for that it’s nice to have a bit of focus.

I only like to go insane when I intentionally do it for nightmare fuel. Otherwise, I like to be fully sane because it always seems that nightmare creatures attack you at the worst possible time, also the out-of-focus camera thing and the constant noises give me a headache.

Sanity?? [laughs in Willow main]

But for real. If I'm playing as any other character I'd try to be sane, because the noises and constant shadow creatures spawning is annoying as hell. BERNIE! only makes it bearable (pun NOT intended)

If I happen to go insane because ruins or 10 day rain I just stay insane. Shadows don't really show that often and when they do I can take them. You can never have too much nightmare fuel. In any other case, I try to stay sane. I get tired of noises and shadows when I'm trying to build or farm in peace.

Um...I don't think I can properly answer this, because the poll is worded oddly.  "Do you embrace or resist going insane?  Yes/No".  Um...if I said either of those, I'd be saying yes or no to BOTH!  : P

My actual answer is keep that beep away from me.  It's SOOO..._ANNOYING_!  And in some cases it can be lethal.  I'm especially not fond of it in Shipwrecked, where, even if you go to the lengths to make a chiminea to protect your fire from _wind_, and you have BAZILLIONS of logs to keep feeding it agains the constant _rain_...it can STILL go out anyway from those CENSOREDing hands!

HowEVer...as obnoxious as the insanity effects are, I would never, ever turn them off.  I very much like to be warned.  That kind of thing in general is why Don't Starve is one of the few games I ALWAYS leave the music on for.   The main reason I would go insane on purpose is when we don't have a Wilson, and I want a meat effigy.  Shadow swords...?  I'm not that combat-y anyway.  It's also more difficult to begin with in DST, due to occasional lag.

Am kinda indifferent regarding sanity managing, but lean towards being sane on the sole aspect I am usually the base builder and having to constantly fight nightmares not only hampers my progress towards said goal (plus am sufficiently lazy to not "multitask"), but also is kinda meaningless in beginning in regards to my play-style. Will slowly go insane nevertheless as magic and Shadow Manipulator are a must (well at least as having that option ready). And yes, I get annoyed by the insanity sounds the most, another deterrent regarding nightmare fuel farming. All in all I see nightmare fuel and Dark Swords as overrated: Ham Bats provides you with probably the best weapon cost/benefit-wise and if you want nf in bulk just Ruin-rush, not only will one get it from practically everything in Ruins, but also will be totally insane mid-dive.

I try to stay sane because I like to see the DS world in a normal way. I also consider insanity boring, because it's very barebones and untouched since it was introduced (I even suggested some very desired new content in a poll I made before). And I also have other things to do than non-stop running from a group of terrorbeaks.

Call me silly, but...(hangs head in shame) I also like...colour.  I like when the world doesn't look like a constant ugly drab bleh with "whispering" (more like yelling, amirite?) in your ear constantly.

I'm now remembering that time in one of the Stumpt playthroughs...was it Season 2?  where Jaz's character had been insane for SO LONG, that she got _startled_ when she un-insaned and saw the spring palette for the first time (that playthrough), PROPERLY.  I'm not even kidding.  "Ohmygod, what just happened?"  "What?"  "What?"  "The screen!  It looks...different!  It just suddenly changed!  It got like...brighter, or something!"

(pause)

"Oh, I'm not insane, is THAT what happened?  My GOD, I didn't realise it'd been that long!"

XD

(And now I'm ALSO remembering the time somebody came by...and wasn't aware I liked to randomise my seasons (even though I say so in the description of every one of my worlds), so one morning, suddenly I see a startled:  "What is THAT?!" in the chat.  THAT?! was SURPRISE LOLSUMMER!  Random seasons:  _Another_ reason to want to be able to see the game's colours properly.  NOBODY expects the ANTLION INQUISITION! or something.)

Anyway yeah.  I like colours.  Not even counting the actual DANGER, I don't want to stay insane all the time just because...you don't see how the game was originally intended to look that way!  : P

I don't care much about the insanity. It's super easy to kill Nightmare mobs. Since I'm the type who plays to build a base. So I take it as it comes. I don't force anything, but it doesn't bother me while I'm fighting a boss or anything~.

I don't have a problem with being insane. I enjoy the fuel farming and the noise doesn't bother me that much. My struggle is it's difficult to get things done when you constantly have to stop and fight nightmare creatures. Or when you're trying to fight another creature and nightmare creatures decide they want to attack you.
