When catapults were changed to take time to arm to use, every character uses the “long” animation, taking roughly 1.5 seconds. The exceptions to this are Winona (who instantly does it), and Wilson, who, because of his “scientist” tag, will lower the time it takes to arm it down to a second. Shoutout to @Hornete for pointing this one out!

Too much powercreep. Needs nerfed to like 1.4 seconds.

So, we knew that Cookie Cutters like to eat wood in any shape and form... but I accidentally noticed that there's a few of those forms that cannot be eaten or attacked and because of this they will helplessly swim at them and never do anything else. That makes salt harvesting even more of a breeze than it was.

This can work with both Log Armors or Woodie's Hardwood Hat. The things need to be on water so this is why Wood Walls or items on boat will not work.

I actually did not know that :wilson_dead:

How do you position the log suits? Just paddle by and drop them real quick, or clear out the cookie cutters first?

I don't know yet, pretty recent find. : ) But normally, Cookie Cutters change of target from boat to item whenever one is available. So you should be able to approach them anytime, and even if they noticed a boat, you can deploy a log suit into the water and push it where desired.

Ruins exploring tip, if you're already bringing a pre crafted alchemy engine to your ruin rush you should bring 4 rabbits if you decide you want to make a shadow manipulator and use magic items such as night lights, amulets, batbats and dark swords, this is especially easier to do as wormwood (this is just a magic tier rush for Wormwood, Wicker or Wanda)

there're no bats in ruins

Technically there are. They can spawn from a broken pseudoscience station. I don't think there's a point to bring all the presti crafting materials into the ruins. It's a lot easier to catch rabbits day 1 and get 4 boards and 6 silk while you collect alchemy materials. Then you can just craft presti at a science machine (you don't need alchemy for it). I sometimes like to dupe living logs in the ruins and might use presti to pre-craft shadow manipulator in the ruins before going upstairs, but often I won't bother with magic until I return back upstairs.

Fun fact: Gestalt are afraid of shadow mermaids, so they will help to systematically scare them

I’ve also recently learned that gestalts are afraid of dark swords, which you can just drop on the ground as a warding totem.

cries on console, as the only way to drop an item in the water is to jump from boat and drown hoping it drops from your inventory, or sink the boat itself

Not the worst thing, though. Just pre-craft like 6 grass boats. Paddle to a spot to drop the bait, then place a new boat and let the old one sink.

if the cookie cutters get in the way, kill them and leave the bait for future generations.

Im just Testing something strange here.  The forums gave me the option to reply to this thread so im testing it out.
It was shown that it was archived and normally should not receive new responses.

@loopuleasa I have no idea but the old thread seems to be back and able to be responded instead of it being archived.

Maybe it was manually revived

Posting my v2 of the thread here for completion, as this thread has been resurrected by Klei from archive purgatory

Perfect timing, a few days ago I discovered something for myself, so in the kitcoon minigame in TradeInn you can actually skip petting animation by feeding your cat while you are petting it, you can achive this by clicking on food and before it lands in front of them just cliking on your cat, saves a few seconds everyday.

Instead of dropping logsuits, i just bring the otter dens near the saltstatues.
The otters will leave you alone, because they are preoccupied with killing cookie cutters. Almost all of the cookie cutters are dealt with and you just have to deal with the few who are spawning near you.

As a bonus the otters will passivly farm cookie cutters shells for you.

How distracted does this make them? Can you ram the boat directly into them and they'll still ignore you, or do you need to keep your distance?

Normally they will have eyes only for the log suit for the rest of their existence

i tend not to do this because its pain to have unwanted mass of cookie cutter shell around. and i find em have no use other than completing pearl home.
about otter once they done with the cookie cutter they also targeting u. means u fight em then they killed, new cutter will spawn again really soon.

the dropping log suit might be the best for now.

I dont know why you would have problems with the otters. But the otters literally never went for me, because they will will either kill cookie cutters or go for the monster meat they drop.
And even if you would stay long enough, they wouldnt attack you and just occasionally steal 1 monster meat in your inventory.

Fair point on the cookie cutter shells though. But i usually use a lazy forager to gather the salt, so collecting the shells is no issue. And i just burn the shells in my furnace or feed it to a lureplant.

Also extra Tip: if you wear a lazy forager when ottera are stealing from you, you just recollect the item they tried to take from you.

Yes, and you can pick up the pinched item manually as well (with spacebar) if you don't happen to be using a Lazy Forager at the time. I really did spend a long time fighting off Marotters but it turns out you can just calmly retrieve anything they pop out of your pocket and they won't re-target you for several seconds afterwards; most of the time they'll make their way back towards the den, which usually means they'll be out of your hair if you were just passing through the area.

I know this is common Wortox knowledge by now, but it's worth adding to the thread.

Many items in DST have a stacksize of 40, including Wortox souls.

That means that if you hold 4 soul jars with the +5 soul capacity talent, you reach 20+5+5+5+5= 40 soul capacity breakpoint.

This is useful because if you have your main inventory full with one slot dedicated to your raw souls, you will auto-drop souls when you reach 41 souls, while still having souls in your inventory to perform actions.

If your hands are quick enough, you can shoot your friends in the face with an ice staff while they're on fire even when PvP is off.

Not too useful, rather funny in fact; the other characters give you their attacker quotes disagreeing on what you did.

...Well, I saved a life, and it didn't even hurt them!

Misshapen birds (the ones that spit on you in lunar moonstorm) can be placed within 3x3 electric fence pen to be stunlocked indefinitely. These birds have a decent insanity aura which can be converted into sanity aura using bee queen crown. They can also be placed on top of each other to create a cheap, permanent (one-time resource investment), compact (less than a tile in size) and indefinitely extendable (place as many birds as you want until you reach desired sanity output) sanity station in any location of your choice.

Make sure all nodes are linked so birds can't be pushed to unprotected sides. If you have mobs nearby that can attack those birds make sure to put an extra external layer of electric fence for protection (9x9 should suffice for most mobs like hounds or pigs).

Optional: place steering wheel at the center and steer it while quick-dropping birds and standing at them to perfectly adjust your and their position in the pen and maximize sanity output with any given amount of birds. It can be tricky to click on steering wheel if there are already birds inside so make sure to keep your hand slot empty while doing so to avoid accidentally killing your birds.
