Character Quotes

Recommended Posts

Let's talk about and share quotes about the new stuff. Here's some from WX that I enjoy greatly:

Spoiler

FISHINGNET = "I, MERCIFUL WX-78, WILL SAVE THE ORGANICS FROM THE WATER"

ROCK_AVOCADO_FRUIT_SPROUT = "GROW FASTER AND FEED ME"

MOONGLASS = "DANGEROUSLY SHARP AND BRIGHT PUKE GREEN. I LOVE IT"

MOON_FISSURE, NOLIGHT = "MOON HOLE!"

MOON_ALTAR, GENERIC = "GIVE ME THE POWER OF THE MOON"

GESTALT = "THE MOON HAS FINALLY COME FOR ME"

And the absolute best one:

SEAFARING_PROTOTYPER, GENERIC = "IT RUNS ON SEA SHARP"

I'm excited for WX to be able to interact with moon things, as they seem to love the moon. Am also excited for the inevitable lore tidbits to be found in WX's and the others' quotes.

I don't have the quote but webber's quote for the horror hound implies that, thats what the hounds look like without their skin

I would take Webber's quotes with a grain of salt if you're trying to use them as facts.

Wickerbottom's is such:

Quote

"Another moon-induced mutation... Hm."

Which I would say is more accurate since the code name is mutatedhound, and Wicker is more knowledgeable.

By the way, what is Maxwell saying about the moon? Hopefully more stuff than just vaguely hinting that it's not a real moon.

This one is interesting:

MOON_FISSURE, GENERIC = "It's not shadow magic."

Amusing Quotes, will come back later with lore quotes:

Wigfrid, Flare: “Never split thy party”

Maxwell, Think Tank: “Now to see if Higgsbury’s ideas hold water”

Webber, Fractured Den: “I don’t want to be friends with those ones”

Wilson, Hot Spring (Crystallized): “Water turns to glass under the moon. That’s just science”

Wolfgang, Boat Fragment: “Weak boat is woodchips now!”

Woodie, Mast: “Must... Not... Chop...

WX-78, Fishing Net (Unimplemented): “I, MERCIFUL WX-78, WILL SAVE THESE ORGANICS FROM THE WATER”

WX, Boat Patch: “PATCH FOR CRACKED BOAT DRM”

WX, Moon Altar Parts: “PLEASE STOP TALKING TO ME” and “I WILL HELP YOU IF YOU WILL BE QUIET”

Okay, I can’t resist doing one lore quote:

Winona, Gestalt: “I feel like they’ve seem my sister”

Wickerbottom also confirms this: "This is not the same type of magic I've seen from Maxwell's fuel."

By the way, the Gestalts are really interesting. For example, Wilson says "They're promising me... knowledge." Which is what Maxwell lured him to the Constant with.

I don't have too much time, so can someone come up with the rest of the quotes for it?

Should we call triumphant skins and npc maxwell basically Gestalt versions?

The WX ones are great.  Here's some that I thought were funny.

"Iunno, maybe we can jam stuff in it."  - Willow, on celestial fissures (no light)

"Night night, gross puppy." - Webber, on the new hounds while they're sleeping

"A deceptive vegetable with no honor." - Wigfrid, on a sleeping carrat.

"I HAVE SEEN SO MANY TREES AT THIS POINT" - WX, on moon trees

I collected all the Gestalt quotes here (hopefully no one beat me to it while I was typing lol)

Spoiler

Wolfgang:  Wolfgang's brainmeats have never been so mighty!

Woodie: We're all connected, eh?

Wortox: Good evening, children!

WX: THE MOON HAS FINALLY COME FOR ME

Wigfrid: Goddess of the moon, shine thy smile upon me!

Maxwell: It communes with us through them.

Webber: They want to talk, but they don't know how!

Wendy: I can feel their fear and loneliness.

Wicker: They are the projections of something stronger.

Willow: It feels like they're speaking inside my head!

Wilson: They're promising me... knowledge.

Winona: I feel like... they've seen my sister.

CHESSPIECE_BUTTERFLY = "ART" IS JUST RECREATING STUFF YOU SEE LYING AROUND
CHESSPIECE_ANCHOR = AS HEAVY AS THE REAL THING, BUT LESS USEFUL
CHESSPIECE_MOON = SOME ART IS OKAY

Boy, WX really likes the moon, don't they? Wonder why

Hmm. Are the gestalts extensions of Them? Those things are weird.

Judging from the quotes, I think they're extensions of the moon entity rather then Them (who are associated with shadows).

Okay, it’s lore quote time. Question One: How much faith do we want to put in the word of Webber?

Moon Altar Idol: “It doesn’t want to be here. We don’t either.”

Moon Altar Glass: “It can’t talk like we do, but it’s a friend.”

Gestalt: “They want to talk, but they don’t know how!”

Wickerbottom, Glassed-Over Hot Spring: “I strongly suspect Moon Glass is organic in composition now.”

Moon Fissure: “This is not the same type of magic I’ve seen from Maxwell’s fuel.” (Nice to know, but I suppose that was a tad obvious)

Gestalt: “They are the projections of something stronger”

Congradulations to Maxwell for getting over his “Useful Lore Quotes” phase. Beaten by Webber, what a humiliation.

Winona, Puffin: “Taking her mandated break” All puffins are canonically female. Actually, every bird lays eggs, so... every bird is canonically female? Do the constants birds reproduce like amoeba? Is this why Woodie doesn’t trust them?

Okay, jokes aside, according to Wickerbottom and Webber (and no thanks to Maxwell), we can be somewhat certain that the moon entity is an at least partially benevolent creature that is simply so alien to us that its attempts at communication... deal damage. In addition, this entity is probably somewhat organic in nature, and has access to its own class of psychic Celestial magic, separate from the shadows.

And here we have a victim of the Lunar Island, but no seriously.

Best case scenario it means well, but screws everything up on accident.

Either that or it means "well", but it's definition of well doesn't align with our own—for all we know it thinks the Horror Hounds, Moonrock Pengulls, and Shattered Spiders are an upgrade, and something to be desired.

Enlightenment may not have any remarkably terrible effects yet, but "sleeping forever in bliss" comes to mind when I see how the Gestalt's act.

You've always got the best theories and ideas, man.

keep in mind that both Webber and the spider have minds of their own
for example: Empty Elixir- "I kinda wanna drink what's left, but he won't let me."
does this matter I don't know, but I feel its worth noting.

Oh yeah, it’s bad. I am under no impression that we’re gonna get along fine and dandy with the moon. It’s gonna kill whatever it comes in contact with. I just don’t think it’s trying to, it just doesn’t understand what kinds of suffering it’s inflicting. It’s bad, but not malicious.

Moon Shards may be organic, according to Wickerbottom's Moon Glass ("It appears to be mineral, but may actually be organic in nature.") and glassed-over Hot Spring (which I can't recall at the moment, can somebody else find it later?) quotes.
