If some of the new characters we get between old character refreshes could be imported from RoG/SW/Hamlet, who would you want to see reworked into DST? Pitching a few ideas of my own that still work off their already established attributes:

  • Walani – Fisherman, does a much better job at fishing than other characters (bites come much faster, uses less durability on rods, so on), finds rain to be relaxing, and deals with overheating better than most characters.
  • Warly – Chef, uses Crock Pots more efficiently and even has recipes that are far more effective for survivors other than himself. Could potentially have a crafting tab for making condiments that further improve the effects of food when used on them.
  • Wilbur – Fertilizer, spoils perishables much faster when not held in a backpack due to his lack of hygiene for a lot of Rot alongside his Manure dispensing. Could maybe come with some Banana seeds for that type of food generation as well.
  • Wilba – Pigman Specialist, befriended pigs stay loyal to her significantly longer, aggroing one doesn’t aggro multiple, and the Pig King will give her additional Gold when trading. Knows how to craft Pig Huts without prototyping.
  • Wormwood – Farmer, specializes in growing crops and plants, as well as access to some easily stackable healing/sanity alternatives to food. Can safely utilize Lureplant farms, doesn't automatically aggro Killer Bee Hives, and only takes slight sanity damage instead of health damage from Cacti.

Especially for characters like Woodlegs who are very clearly modelled for their respective expansion, what kind of rework would you want to see for imported characters?

Why is the first question single-answer but the second multiple-choice?

Anyway for me it's Wormwood or Wagstaff for both. Wormwood's ability to grow living logs would be great in an mp environment. Although healing would be more difficult as there is no Mud Spa to buy items from. Wagstaff would be similar to Winona but still pretty unique. His thumpers would make solid competition for Max and Woodie as well.

Wilba is the best’th character!

Also, make Walani have a skateboard instead of a surfboard.

Wilba shares competition with Webber as cute kid character.

Walani needs Wheeler's skateboarding dodges.:wilson_sneaky:

Yes.

EDIT: Ok real post now.

I'd probably most want to see Wilba or Wormwood appear in DST if we're talking a port with little to no changes, but for characters ported with a rework I think I'd like to see either Walani or Woodlegs. I think people tend to focus far too much on the "water" aspect of Walani when coming up with perks for her, rather then her personality which I think theres more to work with. Woodlegs is in the same boat here I think as like Walani the focus on perk ideas is generally too much on water or trying far too much to fit the "The Sea Legs" into the character in some capacity. I think the focus for him should instead be more on the greedy treasure hunting pirate part of his character rather then his ship basically.

For example Walani's perks could relate to her switching between chill surfer and fighter in an instant (Thought of this going off of Walani's battlecrys, which if you've seen them you'd know they are quite... vocal.), possibly dependent on a stat getting too low, or being a new stat of some sort (chill?) that makes the fighter side activate if it gets too low from getting hit or eating bad food and stuff. The two states could have different pros and cons with her chill side perhaps giving her things like a halved sanity drain and gain (like Walani's current -10% sanity multiplier but 50% percent now so it actually makes a difference.), slown hunger drain, inherent heat and cold resist, damage reduction, or even the ability not to flinch on attack. This would then be at the cost of then having things like slown speed, halved attack multiplier, lower attack speed, etc. Then her fighter side could make her have things like increased attack multiplier, speed, constant uppercased speech, a doubled sanity multiplier etc., at the cost of things like greatly increased hunger drain, higher sensitivity to the heat and cold, higher damage taken, and maybe getting the groggy effect for a bit on going back to chill surfer state.

As for her surfboard, make it a portable siesta-lean-to, as if it were to be a new stat that makes her change into a fighter state sleeping could be used to lower it perhaps. Likely would break after so many uses like any other sleeping item, and the amount over time it increases your stats wouldn't be that high.

Just an idea.

Main Wilbur here! Some ideal:

- Poop daily

- Can throw stuff (not just manure): rock, spear, axe,... (what ever he can pick up) and that stuff deal damage <<<< we got ourselves a Range character, the first one i belive. You know monkey throw stuff, its their nature.

- Climb and hide in tree when chase by mob, mob lose aggro after awhile. Jumb between near by tree.

- Can pick up fruit from tree (no need to chop it down)

- Gain sanity near tree. eat banana. Throw poops at people (his way of entertainment, the one being thrown at lose sanity)

- Lose sanity when hungry. (He still an animal)

Wheeler's dodges (he fast so he can dodges)

- Go insane turn into giant kingkong  wreck everything (like Woodie) and drop beard hair when full moon like Son Go Ku from Dragon Ball :D (monkey have fur, and they change one a while right)

...That's it, for now.

P/s: TOGETHER!!! We can shout out loud enough so Klei can hear us and port all chars form DS to DST so we can really TOGETHER.

I feel like you should be able to unlock SW/Hamlet characters if you own the respective DLC’s. Sort of like a loyalty reward, if you have the DLC you get something in return for supporting Klei which is being able to play the characters in DST. (Seriously though, I want to have a whole server as Wilbur and throw poop at everything)

Yeah, let's those who buy the DLC able to unlock that chars in DST, that i think is one more good reason for player to buy future DLC.

P/s: Throw poop is one of many reasons i love playing as Wilbur.

I'd probably exclusively use Wilbur so I want to add my own spin on the above idea:

-Splumonkeys are now permanently befriended to Wilbur. (and behave similarly to Prime Apes)

-Splumonkey pods are now craftable.

-Splumonkeys will not harass players if a Wilbur is nearby.

-If Wilbur is attacked, splumonkeys will aggro onto the attacker. (they still need to be bribed with bananas if you want to order them to attack first)

-If more than one Wilbur is present, monkeys will throw their inventory to the closest one.

-Wilbur now spawns with 2 "Cave Banana Tree Seeds". In addition, existing Cave Banana Trees (either natural or grown) will drop 1-2 tree seeds.

-During the nightmare phase, Wilbur will become "Shadow Wilbur", which changes his appearance to match Shadow Splumonkeys, along with instantly turning his sanity to 0, granting nightvision, and increasing his hunger drain to 200%. Shadow Splumonkeys will not attack Shadow Wilbur. When the nightmare phase ends, Wilbur's sanity is reverted to what it was before the transformation. Wilbur will only transform near/in the Ruins.

These ideas would make Wilbur's playstyle be based underground, which is a niche that no other character really fills. He also has good late-game potential as he'd be able to bring monkeys up to the surface.

Honestly the Hamlet cast (Wagstaff included) can be ported with almost no changes to their standard setup, it's just that hard to build upon perfection. They work well in any world. Only a few tweaks are needed, such as disallowing others from using Wagstaff's goggles, because while they can be used with only the blurry filter being applied, the cast's quotes strongly hint that they should not be functional at all. Another change needed would be tweaks to Wheeler's items, perhaps through adding a durability to both items, to disallow her from becoming a simple pick-and-switch character.

The SW cast though is a tricky beast to handle.
- Walani's perk is based on water and wetness, which can't really be changed much from her surfer-girl personality without risking changing the character entirely. I don't see a way to faithfully incorporate her into RoG at the moment.
- Warly, I would do what we did over at Island Adventures and turn him into the team chef. What we did was remove his passive bonus he got from eating crock pot food, and instead incorporated that into any dish he cooked to share with others, labeled "Gourmet" food. This food is 33% better in all stats, and elongates the alternate effects of other foods, including ice cream, chili, coffee, and jellybeans. We also softened every aspect of his nerfs so he'd feel fun to play and not a detriment. The only nerf we added was making it so the Chef Pouch can only hold food items, otherwise it'd be a straight upgrade to the backpack, sea sack, and insulated pack, which is a huge balance breaker.
- Wilbur can stay largely the same methinks, however he loses out on his ability to control Prime Apes, and can't easily reap the benefits of eating bananas if he has to travel to the ruins each time for em. It's hinted that canonically Wilbur can't control splumonkeys because they're not a part of "his tribe" and don't see him as king. I don't see this causing any issue if it were to be changed personally. Wilbur could be molded into a good explorer of the overworld, and ruins baser to take advantage of the banana sanity and monkeys that roam there.
- Woodlegs... yikes. Half of his main perk lies in the Sea Legs, which can't even be benefited from in anything but SW, and all he's left with is a sanity drain and his treasure hat. His treasure pool would have to be tweaked significantly to be considered fair, and his sanity drain would either need a counter, such as digging treasure restoring X amount of sanity, or just leave it as an eternal drain and call that a day on his balance. He misses out on a lot by not having that boat.

If Klei ports anybody from the DLCs though I'd be super excited to see how they'd handle it.

Perfection takes time, nothing came out perfect in the first place (not that i know of, maybe there is), some say practice makes perfect, if you don't port them how do we gonna "practice".

One more thing, Klei don't have to handle those chars alone, just port them, then make a poll for each one and very soon ton of ideas will show up, they just sit there pick out the best suitable one, easy peasy.

I see many players who will play her if her dodge still grants invincibility. Just dodge at the right moment and the giants won't be able to damage you, especially Fuelweaver won't be able to hit you even if you're caged.

Hey, I saw Sea (the SW kind of sea not the usual ones) in the new beta testing: "RETURN OF THEM", maybe klei gonna bring SW chars to DST sooner than i think:D

Well if you saw Warly's coming to DST in July so in general I'd say us getting the rest of the SW characters someday in DST is quite high! Especially since they said that suggestions and feedback are being taken into account for future character refreshes (which we now know counts ALL DS chracters seemingly not just the ones in DST) so honsetly at this point anythings possible here.
