I think we are going to get some challenging new content.

Recommended Posts

I think we are going to get something really challenging this April, here is my reasoning:

The new updates added really powerful stuff - Winona catapult makes most fight easier, and now Wortox . This is all new content so it is intended to be this way, Klei know's the game need to be balanced and every character to have the same level of power (just in different aspects) .

With this in mind I think the next content will be really challenging because they are giving us powerful toys, and the other characters updates will also add something powerful for this new balance.

If they are upgrading characters isn't the way to do it, rather adding in a new set of armor or weapon, I have no idea what that could be.  As for now I wouldn't expect anything, they're working on Hamlet, Character reworks, and ONI. (Last time I checked)

From the Wortox update -  """"

Upcoming
At the end of April we are planning to release the first major game update. This first update will be focused on laying the groundwork for more content.

In addition, the next character to be refreshed will be Willow, launching at the same time as the game update.

"""

Also check te roadmap (there will be new biomes) I think those biomes will have more challenging content(enemys, features, bosses)

I do ponder if it'll be meant for end game or whatnot. I see the appeal of adding more stuff for the players in day 200+ or so, but I also think some new biomes at the start of the game with new mobs would be more exciting for most of the casual players.

I really curious most for the Wilson rework as he is the Mickey Mouse of Klei. The face of the company in a way. I have to wonder if the mad science lab from Hallowed Nights is a experiment for what they intend to do with him in the future...

Whatever they do, I don't want them to change Wes (too much).  He's cool as the challenged character, but gets kinda overshadowed by Wilson

I think it would be cool if they gave Wilson the walking science machine perk from Wicker, who's already too powerful as she is, and Wilson is a *Scientist*, is there any better character to have that ability?  (He built the portal himself)

As stated by Bigfoot, I wouldn't expect "that much" for April's content since it will be the groundwork for the other updates. This could mean that the first release is probably not gonna be "huge" content wise, but more like establishing an idea of what can we expect throughout the year.

I think about it as when you start making a house: you dig a huge hole to place the foundations. Its probably gonna be an awesome house, but if you placed all your coins and hype on the first step, and then show up the first week of the construction expecting to sit on a couch and make a rooftop party, and just find a huge hole, its probably gonna be disappointing to you. Let's try to look at the big picture here.

TL;DR: Be patient, don't place all your hype on April IMHO.

Or Klei realized most casual players (player-base majority) struggles to even survive first Autumn. Also decided just to amp-up characters levels to those of "The Holy DST Trinity" because nerfs really rub most people the wrong way. And strong complex characters are way more fun.

In the end it likewise depends of what new updates focus on: start, mid or end content.

We're getting Willow next month, so we'll see what happens with her.

Out of curiosity, did you just create a new world so that you could take this particular picture of Wilson examining the gem-orator, or did you happen to have this picture anyways?

I screencapped it. I used debugging so I could see what the new items would be like. Also didn't know you could hang tape on the winter feast trees.:wilson_ecstatic:

Sorry I didn't see that, but new biomes!?!  I wonder if they'll be in regular DS too, or a DST exclusive, either way I'm looking foward.

   I underestimated you Klei.

lol .. When u were asking for nerfs for Wortox I refered to you multiple times to check to DST roadmap....

Yeah...  I thought I had seen that before for some reason, maybe I didn't read it all the way through.  What I did get from whatever I read beforehand was that we were getting a bunch of character reworks and three new characters. (We are actually getting 4)

I hope we won’t get sth challenging. I just want a nice new biome(s) and a few new features. I don’t care to much about the hardcore challenge stuff but more about some casual gameplay stuff.

Exactly. If I wanted a hardcore challenge I'd be playing Sekiro right now. For you all DS vets, just remember, this isn't a very difficult game.

Honestly I don't care 'too' much about difficulty, but I would like to see the difficulty be more consistent and fluid, and while I don't think we new dangers, I would like for food to be a bit more difficult to obtain in all seasons except maybe winter, which is too hard for beginners food-wise, but I find it hard to get low on food during spring and summer.  While seasons are one way to do this, making the characters balanced also helps make the difficulty more "fluid" as the game would not very drastically based off of whether or not your a Wicker, Wortox, or Willow, which are almost different difficulties to the point of imbalance.

As for making sanity work better for beginners and late-game players alike, I think it should probably involve a sort of increase in shadow creatures as you go more insane, with insanity difficulty becoming near impossible after too much time insane.  Although this may make the ruins harder, that is one place we don't need to worry about keeping the difficulty consistent, as only the best of players go there, and with it not being 'necessary' to survival, is more of an optional challenge.  In all honesty it's not about making the difficulty harder or easier, but rather making it work for more than one skill level.

I for one just wish to know how Billy and Mumsy will appear in the new content...

But, as most of the other people said, I simply wish for new content with engaging and yet challenging content, and new story updates that should shock us to the core.

Maybe a boss with an interesting quirk would be nice. They managed to do that in Hamlet with the Pugalisk. Who knows what new things the devs can bring?

I'm pretty sure they won't, and I don't think having sentient merms would really fit with the base game.

On another note, what's with all the "Confused" faces on the post above, I figured it was mostly agreeable besides the characters part?

I don't think fully transitioned Gorge merms are very different from normal Merms.

I remember that Sammy was loosing his memory... wait.. here the quotes:

  • "Who're you again?"
  • "What was I doing? ...Oh, SEEDS HERE!"
  • "Thoughts don't come to me like they used to."

Pipton seems to have just transitioned and Sammy is probs about to leave that place: "Many of our sick disappeared into the sea. Odd, that."

The Gnaw curse only affects then inhabitants of the Gorge by turning them into Merms but that's probably not their origin from the merms in DST.. not that we know of...

Maxwell says that "they were already here when [he] arrived..." so it's kinda hard to tell if the Gorge might be before DST

As for Mumsy and Billy as sentient Merms... I think they will probably stop turning into merms after leaving the Gorge and keep their original goat form.

One of the new characters is a goat, we know this because of wortox's speach files. They for sure are returning to DST one way or another, they literally told us that they are coming too at the end of the gorge.

Did the devs say that?? In the last steam?
