Anyone have a list of goals for this game?

Recommended Posts

Let's assume that their is a list of goals needed to get to completing the game defined as using materials forged from materials found via space travel.

What is in between the beginning of the game and the end.

So far I have find water, set up bathroom + wash basins, set up research, research first tier and some second tier stuff, expand base, set up farm, and start digging around + electrolyzer set up + carbon skimmer.  I have gotten out of the game after getting stuck always trying to make a nat-gas gen sys so the game bores me a little.  So what is next?

Their's no hard goal for the game yet. But there's goal/challenge that player do it like (play hardest mode, accept every dupe, sustainable base, etc).

What your next goal was probably setup oil and rocket get some new stuff to improve current base have every system working and running fine once you reach that point I think you beat the game for now.

Still waiting for disaster things like nuclear reactor blown up cause chaos to the entire map and have to build every thing from the ground up again and name of the game will change to fallout shelter instead it would be fun if you don't have anything left to do.

Once you know how to make proper base there is really not much fun to be had in this game.

As with most pre-release games, you kind of have to set your own goals. Astroneer, subnautica, terra-tech, No Mans Sky, all of those started out with zero endgame content, and required the player to kinda... make it up.

My current overriding goal is to set up a base that is so foolproof that it is 100% self sustaining for a full 24 hours of zero interaction. Even with debug, trolling the forums for blueprints and strategies, and getting up to 500+ cycles of gameplay and I haven't reached that goal yet.

It`s about your imagination and about optimisation. You can make a base do whatever you want or you can make The Perfect Base that runs fully automatic and nothing overheats, resources are renewable and everybody is happy.

Generally it`s about learning from your mistakes and starting over making the base better. Once you get "perfect" in your build order there`s not much more to do other than challenges you do for yourself. You might also want to try different approaches like using as little machines as possible and getting resources from critters, building huge hatch and drecko farms or completely opposite fully industrial game, breeding fish automatically and stuff.

There is so much things you can do. I haven`t tried a lot of the stuff i`d want to yet.

Factorio is like 100% better if it comes to building and optimizing systems, this supposed to be colony sim game, but its not.

We now swim in self imposed challenges and optional content, do this or do that.

Sorry but I'm not the person that is willing to do self imposed challenges.

As for the system optimization. really nothing comes out of that, in other games I can at least run said system and compare results to other players, hell there is even leaderboard and I can see how I did against the world.

So yea, I know how this game works and how to make proper base, and that really where it ends, as there is no enemies, no raids, and no disasters, and keeping systems in working order is not that hard.

IMHO playing with 4 times the map size, how it was originally, adds to the joy. Biggest enemy = FPS

On initial start you could spawn 50000000 water at -200 celsius and 20 screens of lava on top and see how you get on :D

Still praying for radioactivity,fire/combustion/explosions,aliens...

I can`t help but feel like you need to play some Blizzard games and then visit their forums. Your posts remind me of the atmosphere there. I`m sure you`d get a lot of likes with your pesimism.

I didn`t play factorio. I assume it`s a finished game. ONI isn`t yet. I know there`s a lot lacking. Mainly it`s balance. New players find the game incredibly hard. But seasoned players tend to get bored by it being too easy. I`m wondering what can be done about that. We don`t have something like hounds in Don`t Starve that hunt you down and force you to prepare or imminent winter. The asteroid is static. It`s great if you want to chill with an occasional crisis made by your own mistakes.

We could use a mode that has some sort of a timer. Either lava rising, meteors destoying the top or maybe aliens invadin and drilling through the surface and abducting dupes. Something that will rise your pressure and provide a challenge.

Factorio players probably would say that Factorio is never finished. Im hoping the same for Oxygen not Included. Hopefully there will be a sucessful "Full game launch" and then things like DLC`s over time to attract more buyers and players, keeping the developers paid and working on it.

I have the feeling that the forum here used to be more lively, so putting ONI on the steam spotlight and fresh in the media hopefully gives it a new boost. :p

Factorio is still in early access, but the problem here is not what is finished and what is not finished. The problem is that it seems like ONI is moving totally toward building systems, and keeping colonists alive is totally trivial, and as far are building some machinery there is so much competition that ONI simply wont be able to even get close to not to mention compete with them.

Now we are getting rocketry part 2, then ONE new content update and then we get balance and fixing/improving things, that wont change current state of the game, at least not in any meaningful amount.

Hoped for more colony management and less building (fun for a while) contraptions to melt some space sand.

Give it some time :p

I bought Factorio 5 years ago, a good whisky like ONI gets even better over the years :)

As another example World of Warships basically needed two years to implement something really new for me, Uboots & the CV/Aircraft Carrier rework ( both hopefully for public matches in 2019 ).

Yeah Factorio is still called Early Access on Steam and some Googles Services "Beta", running since 10 years hahaha !

Now to something completely different...

"GossmannNr.5 to BubblesNr.12 - Immmmmm cooooming !"

I dont want to be rude, but are you still here?

You are complaining in every post you reply, so, why are you still going around the forum if you dont have anything positive to say?

So what is next?

Prepare you for the surface :

- 32 tons of Steel to cover it with 64 Bunkers doors.

- Around 5-7 tons for your first rocket.

- Setup the telescope to analyze the other asteroid (Space Industry).

So you need :

- Mine all the fossil in the magma biome.

- Get some eggs shells and eventually setup the fishes.

- Refine around 25 tons of Iron

- Refine around 7 tons of Rafined Coal

- Refine fossils/egg shell to get around 4 tons of Lime.

- Have a setup to refine the crude oil.

- Have eventually plastic for the tubes.

I got a feeling balance will change a lot. Just look at the past updates. Ever since outbreak we are waiting for new types of germs. The system is there, we even got tools to combat germs. A new strain might change more than we think.
Clothing is bland and useless. Imagine what it could be with some work to it. the system is ready. Just add stuff to it.
Mid game lacks a bit when it comes to materials. Maybe refined minerals. Concrete, asphalt with some useful properties, there`s still a lot to explore.
Job system - half of the jobs just give stats. What about traits for architects, engineer only machines, plants only seasoned farmers can tend, critters only seasoned ranchers can tame.
New critter morphs are possible; sulfur drecko, regolith hatch, moo morphs (please give us milk), shove vole morphs.
We got enough unused minerals for an entire new biome. I doubt it will happen but it`s possible.

All that uses the system that are already in the game. They could add it during the balance part. I don`t think the next few patches will be just number tweaks and bugfixes.

That sounds like a big rocket... and just like my first (just one more cargo bay... just one more... damn I hit the ceiling of the map), so fair enough~

Most of the things you mention wont happen.

I would not call it clothing system, its very clunky, there should be a screen for it, where you assign clothes to colonists, but we don't even have clothing, we have the warm one the cold one and the silly one, but from my game experience you can just skip them all whatsoever and you will be just fine. Just like with some structures, ore scrubber for example, never used one.

Not to mention exo suits that make every colonist invincible.

Coming further is map generation, I never managed to run out of free oil that is on the map, so building oil well totally optional, if not the free oil on map that will last you for centuries then you can get it from slicksters, there would be a choice to make here: slicksters vs oil well, but never got to that point.

Like that`s what i mean. The balancing patches are supposed to fix all of that and make it worthwhile. Maybe they`ll redo the clothing completely. Balancing that stuff can make it fun to use and maybe challenging if done right.

Now that we got rockets that use petroleum fuel and jetpacks there`s a lot more oil sinks. I know you can sustain your base even without using oil at all. But if you decide to build a colony that`s more power hungry with more dupes then you might run out of oil eventually.

Here I kindly request that players have access to early trading.

Often one has a ton of resource X, but even after excavating the entire map and having built all stations a player is missing resources of Y & Z. A casual player will need aaaagggesss to get to the point of constructing a rocket. You know what, Im playing since ages in debug and still havent got to the point of building a rocket.

Putting 100% resource value in a trade transaction and getting 20% resource value back - Fine.

IMHO this should be available to players within the 30 minutes of playing the game. The trading could be limited to the current research status of the player, the amount of dupes his colony has, the quality of the input materials and so on. Also the player could have a small % chance that his trade caravan "gets lots on the way" and all resources where lost. Which will increase the heart beats of players :)

I would so welcome that a friendly trading caravan digs a tunnel to me and "comes from the outside" or some foes showing up in that way. This would truly be exciting if well executed by Klei.

You only missed one goal.

Sleep, if there is any extra time (only after reading the forums.

Calling the system clunky while praising factorio is crazy.

Seriously have you even played factorio?

It is fun and I like the multiplayer, however it reminds me of my old work Access 97 database.

It also is far simpler a simulation type if you understand what is actually using CPU cycles in both.
