DeuteriumCore
Help! How do I get dirt besides the compost? I think it's too slow in producing dirt. I need the dirt for the sleet wheat. Grimgaw
Compost is the quickest and best way of getting dirt. Sieve is the best way of filling up the compost. goboking
If you expose a slime biome near the surface of your asteroid to space any regolith that finds its way in there will cook the algae and slime into dirt. Sasza22
People have been building stuff to cook slime and algae into dirt for a while now. There`s sme designs flying around the forum for sure. psusi
Boiling polluted water also supposedly works. You should also make sure to use fertilizer to grow the crops faster, and thus spend less dirt and water on them. You can also compost foodstuff like eggs. Carnis
Sleet doesnt feel like its worth The effort at the moment. Fertiliser used to be a powerplant sideproduct. So sleet just needed cold. Now dirt & cold & sick amounts of water. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/94652-i-ran-out-of-dirt/#findComment-1075605 Share on other sites
CherryHavoc
Have you considered growing something else like bristle berries? All they need is water. Polluted water can be boiled to get dirt but you're likely to run out of food in the time it takes to create a system that boils it in sufficient amounts, assuming you have it in the first place. tzionut
My advice, stick to bristle berry. At first i want in my game to move from mushroom to sleet wheat. After seeing the requirement i chose bristle berry. Boiling water gives you a fraction of the dirt you get from the sieve. It`s more efficient to use the sieve. 1 hour ago, psusi said: You can also compost foodstuff like eggs. You don`t want to do that this update, since eggs are the only source of lime for now and you`ll need a lot of lime for steel later in the game. DeuteriumCore
About the sieve, yes I can use that but in my specific game, I'm also running out of water. I have three sieves running already fueling the electrolyzers but they still don't produce enough dirt. Bristle berries are good but if I start doing that my base will implode because everyone will get stressed. Lol. It's the frost buns that keeps them from rebelling. But I'll give this a try. I'll just look for another way to deal with stress. 0xFADE
Simple. It is a learning experience. Next time don’t use as much dirt. If you don’t want to experiment that is your own issue. After the fert nerf I found I had a lot more water to use. The fert makers were holding me back. Pretty much everybody loses their first few colonies or decides they are not salvageable. I need the dirt for the sleet wheat. Use a carbon skimmer + a water sieve. The skimmer don't consume the water so you don't need a lot to start. If you water sieve run 24 hours, it gives 120 Kg polluted dirt / cycle so you need 2 composters. I understand that but this is more of a "I'm trying to save my game" than a "I don't want to try something else in my next game." For sure I will be doing that my next game but I still want to find a way to deal with my current one. 1 hour ago, SamLogan said: Use a carbon skimmer + a water sieve. I've been doing this but only to supply my sleet wheat electrolyzers but still I'm running out of polluted water. I'm on my may to make a dupe ranch to produce PW, hopefully, but the dirt put my plans to a halt. tzionut
Oh my good. My friend you play to chaotic. 1. what you do whit the mealwood in cycle 500, you should change before 200 to mushroom and before 500 to bristle berry. 2 why you go to the surface if you have only 200 steel? 3 why you have 16 duplicants? - more duplicants = more problems. I recommend between 8 and 10, but before you accept more you should prepare better . 4 why you melted all the ice biome? 5 try to think modular, search the forum for lots of good idea like fishomactic, self cooling oxigen generator, how to cool the nat gas vent, how to store it, how to arrange better the rooms, etc. Here you have my last savegame, next i am trying to cover the space surface, and to melt the excess regolith whit lava.
