Forever?

Uhm... no?

It will be available to us at some time. I reckon the year thing could be possible, but they definitely won't be exclusive forever.

@ImDaMisterL The thing is when it can not be promised to be within a year, it is no different to saying 'we can't give any promise'

Because:

1. The life-cycle of a player is usually a few months. After a year, how many of the players that are looking at this issue will ever care about this? It seems to me promising something like over a year is just to give false hope and try to suppress players' heat on this issue. New players that join a year later will be presented with the fact that 'Tecent had some exclusive skins a year before'. But they are not gonna complain about it and is just going to accept it.

2. The huge difference between a year and 'forever': Again, nobody will care about this in a decade. Probably nobody will care about this in a few months.

@Doctor

He was talking about "Lunar new year" aka "Lunar collection" so chilllout. There is no issue here and no false hope. Nobody will care about this weak rose collection after we get new one anyway

Personally I enjoy the sets more than other collections and so do many, but it's a matter of taste. You are correct about that the holiday being less than three months' away.

I'd be nice if we got a time of release for the collection, though. That'd lessen the amount of topics asking about the Rose skins by a lot.

Inb4 the next set we get is not the rose collection but the tan pleated tweed shirt collection.

If next April Fools doesn't lock pleated shirts on by default then I will be greatly disappointed.

What about the Tan Skirts? The Brown Pants? The Blue Buttoned Shirts?? THE PURPLE T-SHIRTS?!?

And boring tan skirts.

Seriously, though, I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying...some SPECIFICS would help a whole, whole, whole lot.  ARE these really exclusive, or not?  If so just admit it already.  If you did a depressingly common business practice that would make us respect you a bit less as a company...just _own_ it.  C'mon.  It won't be pretty but some of us are already kinda raising our eyebrows cynically you anyway.  Cards on the table, let's just settle this and find out what's going on once and for all.

If the answer is no, it really ISN'T exclusive after all, as I hope _and still assume_ it is...then give us an idea of WHEN.  "In a year maybe" is too vague, and I agree with the idea that that might as well be forever, because of how long your average gamer even stays with one game.

I know I have no actual power here and I'm acting like I'm Putting My Foot Down, but...this is something a LOT of us want to know.  (And I have a very "OKAY, that's it, enough dilly-dallying, cut the crap" personality in general--not just towards Klei or this particular matter.)

ACTUALLY exclusive? Yes or no.  And if no, a time frame.

And if not--if _you_ don't know yet--what is stopping you from knowing?  Is it some policy of TenCent's keeping it vague? And how much power do you have over this as your content vs. their power to keep it exclusive?

...Notorious

Really hope Tencent doesn't have power over it, buuut...given how they've handled DST announcements and such on their platform so far, it seems exactly like something they'd do, or maybe recommend.
Keep it vague, post misleading announcements, bait people in with things that won't actually happen.
Maybe that's the case? Maybe not?

Just like @Pyr0mrcow said:

this is the company's business model. They are way bigger than Klei. And this model actually works. We may never see the exchange of skins between platforms. And of course Steam is already a secured market, so Tencent knows they can make demands for their own version of DST.

Just a question, but why is china banning the original game of DST? and what player are they taking out again?

Are you more or less familiar with the politics of China? This understanding is fairly needed for an explanation. In a similar vein, DAI was banned in India. It's a... difficult topic.

Okay, so, for those of us who don't know the politics...why?

And, I KNEW this was a bad sign, I _knew_ it!  Because, like you said, _this business model works_.  So why should they not do it?

ARGH.

Like said earlier in this thread, exclusive stuff for a platform is supposed to be silly little things like a hat with the company's logo on it.  Why is the stuff we can't (probably ever) have actually GOOD?

I knew this was going to happen.  I knew this was going to _phracking_ happen.  I just knew it.  The second something like this comes along that's actually advantageous to the other platform...bang!  There goes equality.  This just had Bad Sign written all over it from day 1.

Again, ARGH.  :(

Kinda wish we'd never seen these, now.  I mean, sure, there are tons of things you'll never have, but this is something _in a game we're already playing_.  So it's like something we SHOULD have (access to) but can't...for as stupid of a reason...as where we happen to live.

Sigh.

I would understand if it were some kind of "Asian collection" or something like that. But ROSE collection? Something obiously related to the lore that WE worked for discovering? Just not cool AT ALL.

Myself,i don't care because i have lost all faith on getting an elegant after 1000 of play (600 or 800 since skins were added) And i prefer the survivor collection above anything else because it fits with my style.

But i feel really bad for everyone that likes those skins because of their color/theme or anything else, even while more of the same would happend with the "Asian collection" i said, but it would atleast make a little bit more sense.

Now i think on it an Asian collection would be the perfect chance for adding that samurai Wigfrid and the Mark of the ninja skins for Wilson and WX from the concept arts.

In a very shameful nutshell... it's cultural censorship. I really don't want to go into details here, searching the Web is a piece of cake though. Books are banned, games, films... Various things.

It's not just Tencent's. Many companies, not only Asian ones, use it.

On top of what Arl (that's one of my nicknames too o_o) mentioned, this configuration benefits a Chinese company that has some favorability with their government, rather than an American one (Steam). And China (Russia's similar in this regard) is home to rampant pirating, general tech-thievery, ect, so they're going to get the game one way or another. If Klei wanted to actually get compensation for their game, they had to make a deal.
Basically, in order to have dealings in the Chinese market, our side's on the begging end.

No to be fair here. I am specifically the person who suggested the rose collection to them. The idea was to keep the collection special, in lore and distinct. DST was the first (and only) premium game on the platform and we wanted to launch with something special. I suppose I underestimated how much everybody else would want them.

The idea here was not forced by Tencent at all.

The skins are still very much of an experiment for us, and we aim to do it right, so I appreciate the feedback, and I apologize for the miscalculation.

We're adding a ton of new stuff here tomorrow I think you guys will enjoy. Please let me know what you think.

Yea, the move makes sense, and honestly half of this is pure musing. We're just antsy over how...'special' it may or may not be. Vague dates make that feeling worse.

Actually, we should be optimistic. The chance is 50:50 - we eventually get the same treatment (LOOORE!!!) or we don't .

then we get the cosplayers to make rose costumes and riot outside klei's offices while wearing them

I already keep doodling these. Rose Webber. Rose Willow. Rose Wicker.

*quiet sighs*

Yeah, I figured it was something like that (censorship, piracy, etc.).  And yes, I'm aware that tons of companies all over the world do stuff like this...that's why I felt this was a Bad Sign.  (I used the phrase "depressingly common" in an earlier post, after all...)

I wholeheartedly support the idea of picketing in costume, though.  You can take our flowers!  You can cut our stems!  But you cannot escape...OUR THORNS!

;)
(Well, _you_ try thinking of a Braveheart-esque battle speech from the point of view of a rose at short notice.  : P)

...although this time of year we might also want to bring along our puffy vests.  Especially if we're going to be picketing outdoors in Canada.  Heh.
