troll trio troll who kick people and reset world

Hi guys , 

Maybe most of you have been trolled by 3 person who enter on the same time and kick player, and reset world.

Since klei give vote option, this is so frustrating especially with server which is less than 3 player. I've been trolled 2x on this day, and this is the profile of the bad players :

Im an old player,so i wont lie to you. I just wish klei can give better vote option or any othr prevention of this trolling idea since they log on all klei server and did same thing.

 

So if you guys see any 3 player join together, just do vote kick them immediately before u cry of the restarting world.

You should have to be on the server for more than 30min to be able to vote... That would fixed things becasue trolls wont wait around!

Two of them were online 20 minutes ago I just missed them, I'll take screen to help you. A lot of my games were ruined because of trolls, but it was always only one person at a time, only once have I seen two people "cooperating". Now if three people decide to regularly abuse the system, we'll have to unite. Mostly by reporting them and also manually warning the devs I guess, but since they have potentially the power to ruin every server we can't just wait and endure.

i agree with your idea guys , hope klei will have a way to prevent more more more and more trolls , since trolls always have a better idea than us hahaha.

But Klei won't - can't - hunt down every troll. This is what you MAY have some luck reporting to Steam. Still yet... An active admin is your only real hope.

I have some problem yesterday. (with this trio) they kicked me 2 times, and then admin banned me, cus I was kicked 2 times /= Great logic

This is true, in my years of playing games I've only found one group of trolls who have been willing to stick around a while.

I too had the same encounter with a group of trolls. 3 joined at the same time, kicked every player, then reset the world. My friend had the same encounter as well. I normally ignore griefers, but this is a legitimate problem for the game. This 'group' is basically doing the equivalent of resetting servers. That's not something you can ignore and move past, they are causing a big issue for players enjoyment of the game. Especially since this happens mostly on Klei's DST Servers. I don't believe 'banning' them from the game's servers is the solution, anyone can just make another account and buy the game again. I'm up for the idea of adding a timer before people can vote in a server after joining it for the first time. The issue needs to be addressed eventually.

Jeez, this is becoming a major problem!

I say that it's time that we take the fight to the griefers.

If they're going to group up to destroy our hard work, we can group up to stop them.

I propose that the leaders of the major DST communities form a "council" which reviews reports on griefers, If they are presented with the proper evidence, they can "globally" ban a griefer, (or a team.)

Normally, a griefer would have to go from server to server to get banned from every single one, but with a system like this in place, only one base would need to be burned for ~12 other servers to be safe from that griefer.

I can drop the interested parties my own blocklist (safe enough since I keep logs for reference, require screenshots as proof of abuse and 99% of the time spent hosting actually remain in the game), but I believe this should be kept with some form of secrecy, not straight in the open on the forums. We wouldn't want people just spreading libel of others, whereas if each of us posted just one screenshot of every griefer, well, that's just not fair for moderators and members with limited bandwidth upload/download.

@quintiez what Arlesienne said + I think that posting other people profiles is against rules of this forum and i am not saying this is not a problem but contact someone from Klei directly or write to support if this is about Klei servers. If this happend on any other server you need to contact server admin with this. Also you didnt provide any evidence of this happening (this could be hard i know) but those 3 people could have new accounts like you here and write something like this and get YOU in trouble. Again do this trough private messages/support and not publicly.

Talking about changing voting system is something else .)

Also, on my servers, the rules are:

1) visual reference (screenshots)

2) my own logs

3) the link to the profile taken from "Recently played with", because nicks are hardly informative; they can be changed, they can be duplicate...

Once again: take it to notes. You can have a conversation with multiple members of the forums. @thegreatmanagement is actually running a very promising project in a similar vein.

Same thing happened to me last night :/ Took me a while to remember what a friend told me about them before they reroll the server first, then they kicked out everyone left while the world was at character selection, so basically, new world where you cannot join or do anything

But different to the other guys, only Clouds keeps the same name, the other 3 guys alternate names

I agree, give a timer for new comers before they can cast any vote, don't think it would actually stop them if they wait after all, since they always seem to have majority, but it would lessen the annoyance.

Best bet for now is to stay with a group of half server capacity to avoid votes to pass on

On a more serious note though, I kind of like the idea of setting a time requirement for being able to vote. Personally, I've never had a problem with this, but I do get kind of paranoid when new people join my server. Or heck, make people who have been on the server longer have more of a say when it comes to voting. Either one sounds just fine to me. As far as setting up a troll banning community (can we please call them The Troll  Hunters, please?) I think that's a pretty good idea. If it gets large enough, people might actually hesitate before burning a base or kick/resetting a server, because they's then be banned from several servers. Kudos.

VAC is an automated system to detect cheats (Valve Anti-Cheat) to ban the user from the game(s) they've cheated on.

It won't ban users for doing in-game things regardless of what they do as it wasn't designed to be that sort of ban system.

As far as I know there has only been a handful of instances where Valve stepped in and manually VAC-banned people, one of which was Drunken Fool's exploitation of leaked information to get him and his friends a golden wrench during one of TF2's special events.

 

 

If you all want to share a list of banned users between yourselves, then go for it; they'd only be used on servers in which you administrate over and you are free to do so.

A word of caution: When cabals form, negativity tends to exist.

I'd rather see the community work together on something productive, such as solving a Klei puzzle or developing the latest and greatest in modding technology, than to see it divide itself over in-game actions that some view to be deplorable.

I think these people are actually victims themselves. They had the exact same thing happen to them (i.e. trolls coming in and resetting their server) and they realised nothing was going to change about this (how long has the votekick system been in place now?) and so they went to the other extreme to express their views--essentially abusing the system that they want fixed and making non-admined servers unplayable as a way to force the issue out into the open in a way that Klei simply cannot ignore (their official servers will be deserted and they may lose players if this continues).

 

Whether this is the ideal way to address the problem (if it is even the case) is something I won't comment on, but I can at least see the logic behind it (how many brackets did I use in this post?)

I'm scratching my head over how you could call trying to work within the system to stop a user from egregiously abusing it to outright bar users from accessing public servers "divisive." What this user is doing is essentially a very low-tech distributed denial of service attack, which is not viewed by 'some' as deplorable, it's viewed by just about every legal body on earth as deplorable. While it is quite preferable to institute some means of preventing such abuse in general (which would have to be done on the part of Klei and/or Steam), it remains that this abuse is being carried out by an individual and the short-term solution is to mitigate the ability of this individual to cause harm.

 

Online gaming isn't all sprinkles and rainbows. There are many individuals who, if given the opportunity, will behave in a malicious manner. Solving puzzles and developing mods isn't much use if everyone quits the game because trolls have the means to completely disrupt actual gameplay. Have you ever played an online game where someone has taken it upon themselves to DDoS all the public servers into the ground? As long as the troll wishes to continue their attacks, it prevents almost the entire community from playing that game.

They're apart of the community, good or bad, and to outright ban them from your servers is your choice.

To start a witchhunt is definitely going to split the community up, regardless of portion size, and I cannot condone such behaviour.

What of a mod that fixes the voting scheme?

Public servers such as Klei won't have it because they're pretty hands-off on the administrative duties, but as @Shian posited that there might be a reason for their actions with good intent even if it seems bad in practice.

From what I've seen most game companies don't really listen to community feedback for abuseable things until they get really blown up and advertised, and perhaps these individuals are just going about getting it fixed the wrong way from what they're used to?

 

What would be great is to come up with ways that fixes the problem and not the outcome of the problem.
