Which enemies are considered shadow aligned and which are lunar aligned?

Recommended Posts

I know the nightmare creatures, broken clockworks, ancient guardian phase 2, fuelweaver, and nightmare werepig are. And I assume shadow splumonkeys are also shadow aligned, correct me if I’m wrong.

For the lunar aligned enemies I know crabking, celestial champion, and the  salamanders are. And I assume the brightshades and new rift enemies are. Again, correct me if I’m wrong though.

But are there any others I’m missing? Maybe the twins are also shadow aligned? They do drop the shield of terror which is considered shadow equipment for Maxwell so I’m not sure.

Shadow Aligned:

  • Daywalker.
  • 'Big shadow tentacle' (I think this is for AG.)
  • Nightmare Bishop.
  • Nightmare Knight.
  • Nightmare Rook.
  • Ancient Guardian.
  • Nightmare/Shadow creatures.
  • Shadow Channelers. (Unseen hand.)
  • Shadow Chesspieces.
  • Shadow Tentacles.
  • Shadow Leeches.
  • Stalkers. (Fuelweaver.)

Now for Lunar Aligned:

  • Celestial Champion.
  • Mutant Birds.
  • Carrat.
  • Crab King Claw.
  • Crab King.
  • Saladmander.
  • Gestalt.
  • Greater Gestalt.
  • Mutant Hounds.
  • Mutant Pengulls.
  • Brightshades.
  • Grazers.
  • Molebats.
  • Mushgnome.
  • Mutated Spider.
  • Lunar Wobster.

And that's it!

The moon-quay creatures also come out of a rift, would that be neutral aligned or more on the lunar side?

I'd say they'd be more neutral because while the new lunar creatures and the monkeys come out of rifts, they both were created and sustained for different reasons. The lunar creatures started spawning in the constant because alter wanted to do something with the survivors, while the moon-quay rift came about from Wagstaff messing around with the stored lunar power that backfired. The lunar alter seems to actively alter the world around it and changes the world to be more lunar. The moon-quay rift seems to be just something that occasionally sucks in monkeys and resources for no rhyme or reason. In short, they don't really seem to have any strong affiliation between either faction because they were just kinda dropped into world as the result of someone else's actions.

Thank you! That’s really helpful! How did you get the info on all the mobs if you don’t mind me asking?

I'm reading the code and tags that dictate which is which internally.

I left out the armors, and just listed the mobs and what all actually counts code wise towards being 'aligned'.

This might be a stupid question, but how did you view the code and tags that tells you which is which?

Does it not count because it's a temporary effect from the ruins?

This shouldn't be the case. As far as I know Ancient Guardian only becomes shadow-aligned once he starts bleeding nightmare fuel. So it is possible, from a technical standpoint, to change a mob's alignment on the spot

I more so mean lore-wise rather than mechanically.

The twins is not even from the Constant, so they are not shadow aligned for lore-wise.

But you put nightmare fuel in the terrarium and corrupted the tree.

Edit: I said they drop nightmare fuel, but they dont.
