is maxwell gaming cool?

Recommended Posts

My signature always said "Maxwell Main" since he's probably the one I played the most all that time but true being I haven't played as him anymore if not for specific things shortly since the Woodie refresh, and the more it went the more the character was turning into the most outdated of the cast since the refreshed ones now come really heavy loaded with diversified interests and the game got more foraging perks and tools making it now a quite niche resource farmer, ironic since he hates that. What I initially liked was the little health he had for a bit more difficulty but I want the perks to go along with something more fitting for Max... hoping all the years of waiting will give him a totally awesome rework. I still have my hopes really high for that thing.

Always loved Maxwell as magic items actually had any sort of usefulness with him (Shadow armor being viable, Bat Bat, etc.) and not caring about sanity except on special occasions. But overall he's really outdated, better to wait for the update than starting new world as him

Maxwell is dope! My go to character on most multiplayer scenarios and especially with bad internet connection because you don't have to worry about restoring sanity (terror beaks are deadly on high ping) and you'll always be useful to your team by gathering logs, rocks, ice and even nightmare fuel.

Maxwell gaming? More Maxwell idling.

I hate his DST incarnation, specialized shadows that do the work for you, duelists are trash because you can't reuse your working shadows as fighting shadows like in DS.

The worst part is, if the Wicker ""refresh"" is anything to go by, you can all but guarantee that Klei is going to add more specialized shadows and more idle gameplay.

ds maxwell sucks, by the time the shadow worker reach the tree you are chopping (which makes you waste time and inventory slots to carry an axe) the tree is already chopped. The only good thing is that you dont need to summon new ones to change task but is at the cost of doing the task by yourself, thing that doesnt fit the "summoning slaves" and maxwell in general

they can simply remove the flint tools requirement and allow us to change shadows at the cost of NF

also wx, for example, was completly changed. You bring wickerbottom to the discussion who didnt need any big change and still she got new downsides and upsides. Sure, the books arent linked to the character but nobody cares, still feeling unique, not every character needs to have "problems" that are "fixed" with their tools and upsides, that is boring, limits creativity and in some cases ruins the character experience

okay

Maxwell is okay. I liked his DS shadows more. Actually, I didn't like DS shadows more, I liked the idea behind them. I would like to see at least a new type of shadow that is very similar to the og one without weird stuff like 2.5 days limit and 0 health regen. That way people who liked previous shadows more will get a chance to play with them while leaving current specified work shadows for the people who like them.

I like him. Honestly, I don't get the complaints that his shadow workers are just "afk simulator" since you should be picking the resources up that the workers gather. Other than that, are we really upset that we have to miss out on such compelling gameplay like holding space next to a tree? Gathering is a chore, it's boring. His perks allow him to only have to do part of the chores while the mindless clones do the rest.

His problem is that he needs more. His gathering early game is unmatched, but not by enough to warrant his low health. In late game, he falls off hard. IMO he needs more magic perks and abilities.

i think a gameplay that is reminiscent of Pikmin 3 would be really stellar. Micromanaging a big multitude of differently located shadow puppets would be such a unique way to play DST imo. Don't know if people like that though.

Another aspect to go towards instead of that, would be like more magic related interactions. Maybe like increased effectiveness/immune to negative effects of shadow magic, or character unique crafts; idk either or, but i would def perfer the Pikmin 3 route.

DST duelists are mid because they aren't just spammable at a health/nf cost anymore which sucks i'll give you that

if you're "idling" with the dst workers then you missed their whole point, being able to pick up simultaneously as they harvest is why dst maxwell (and by extension, literally anyone hiring pigs or merms) save a ton of time while gathering. i'd be more surprised if you weren't the only person missing the godawful ds workers.

Overall a really cool character that feels pretty outdated compared to the rest.

Maybe if he had a lot more control in what shadows can do, and i dont just mean being able to pick up things or stop their actions. As he is now, it feels very similar to befriending pigs/merms. But if he could have a lot more freedom in what they do then i could see him being really fun.

Maybe he can have them stay in a certain area so they can work while you do something else. Or have shadows be able to switch between working and fighting. Even physically take control of shadows and be able to switch between them, idk.

Personally, ive experimented with different mods that all focus on improving his shadows, but it always felt like the same thing in the end, and that is being a pickup slave for whatever job they do. That being his main gimmick paired with being a useless fighter, makes his gameplay get old really fast.

I really want Maxwell to get something similar to his classic shadows.

Maybe not the same mechanic but rather some kind of shadows that repeat his every action. So they would move right alongside you, kite with you, chop the same tree with you.
