Wortox will now be able to Soul Hop a second time for free if done within a short time of the last.

Wortox will be able to Soul Hop to past explored locations through the Map.

So, how powerful is he now? Does it mean that he can traverse to the crab hermit instantly after reading message in a bottle? Does it mean that we now have Backtrek Watch Mk. II?

After spawning in a new world and giving myself a message in a bottle, I could teleport straight to Pearl with just 12 souls.

It’s important to keep in mind that 12 souls is a lot.

in fact, I think unless his max soul limit was increase, you wouldn’t be able to travel to the hermit island and back without collecting a few souls on the island.

I don't think it'll be very hard after planting some flowers and killing some bflies and bees, if you have 8 souls left.

Just what I'm asking - is Soul hop a Backtrek Watch Mk. II now?

Yeah somebody already said it can bring you to pearls island for only 12 souls so I just left my silly comment there. Cross map teleportation without needing to set an anchor point leading to wherever you want starting on day 1 with nearly no cost is way better than farming mactusks while being a crying mask wojak who's talking about how waiting 2 or 3 years before getting a decent network set up is totally amazing.

Keep in mind though that it's wortox only.  Wanda can bring an entire team.

How is this different than Wanda doing it via a watch?

You mean other than the fact that he can have a deserter prototyped and teleport people to anywhere regardless of him anchoring a watch there? And him being able to teleport to any number of deserters for only 1 inventory slot without a cool down? And him being able to do all of this for basically zero effort instead of spending years grinding mactusks and walking around setting anchor points?

Well I never said Wanda couldn't use deserters so it doesn't matter how it's different since I never said it was. I was just responding to you saying that she can bring the team.

Also take into account that Wanda can store her watches in chests and backpacks, can anchor an unlimited amount of them to a single destination and can teleport between shards. And when you get to 200-ish day, you will probably have cane and watches to all the points of the world you want (I usually make 2 for base and one for lunar island, ruins, dfly and other important revisitable-ish places).

So I suppose Wortox is good now for daily-like situations at any time, while Wanda is mostly for mid-late-game time saving (because she doesn't need to refill souls after every long teleport).

Ah, and Wortox is much better at healing, hope I don't need to explain why

I feel like Wortox should have some more abilities, but being able to instantly teleport to hard to reach places like the lunar island by just killing some bees or batilisks feels ridiculous.

I would suggest that Wortox should have different Tiers of souls based on the HP of the mob it came from. Mobs with less than 200 hp could drop souls with worse stats than the current souls, but mobs with 3000 or more hp could drop "Super souls" with increased stats and the exclusive ability to long range teleport.

I would like it if they were to give wortox built-in winter insulation and penalty summer insulation since he's the only survivor covered in fur. (Other than wonkey, but his fur fails to compare to wortox's floof). Right now it feels like all of his upsides directly relate to his souls, and it would be kind of neat to have a couple of other random traits thrown in for when you're not teleporting around.

Wortox can not only teleport people using Lazy Deserters, but he can also essentially create and destroy wormholes with only rocks and a hammer anywhere on the entire map for his whole team, which is much more powerful than Wanda teleporting a team to only one location.

What I mean by this is when the Lazy Deserter is hammered the only thing you lose is one cut stone, meaning new Lazy Deserters only cost one cut stone. If you were to carry a stack of rocks and a hammer on you, then you would be able to create a never-ending supply of wormholes for your team if provided with the souls, and granted your team has desert stones on them (desert stones = eggs given to Antlion). This makes Wortox an extremely beneficial character to his team and makes Antlions loot powerful if in the right hands.
