or the updated version:

I've used it a fair bit myself, for example during my entire "March of Civilization" challenge

The well there and new UI icon shaped like a kidney are both from the Thirst mod.

Edit:  Except, for console players, not as a mod. I'm thinking a toggleable (and described) option in the settings menu.

...Notorious

I did not know such mod exists, thank you very much :)

I agree with sum stuff you said. They should rework hunger because it's kinda stupid keep eating at full hunger and they should rework healing item because they are trash and nobody uses therefore people uses pierogies to heal instead. They should imprement bandages and other stuff to heal like syringe (for example, crafting them with glands from spider caves to make some mobs useful).

Also, implement stomach ache if you overeat and have some animation like Wolfgang when he goes from normal to wimpy to disrupt yoy for having food poisoning or something.

I swear Mike want's to turn this game into "Word Gen Manager" or something...

On-topic - i wouldn't be against a rework on how hunger works. Something more engaging but simple at the same time, like the farming update, would be nice.

On the topic of nerfing food...

Jelly beans and Soothing tea don't add hunger afaik

HlP - Health points, HnP - Hunger points, SP - sanity points

HlP foods:

Flower salad - 3.2 HlP per 1 HnP

Trail mix, Wobster bisque - 2.4 HlP per 1 HnP

Butter - 1.6 HlP per 1 HnP

Pierogi, Fishsticks, Barnacle nigiri - 1.07 HlP per 1 HnP

Butterfly wings - 0.853 HlP per 1 HnP

Honey Ham - 0.4 HlP per 1 HnP

Roasted toma root provides less hunger than roasted potatoes (12.5 compared to 25) but heals just the same (20 HlP). 1.6 HlP per 1 HnP

SP foods:

Ice cream - 2 SP per 1 HnP

Vegetable stinger, Salsa fresca - 1.32 SP per 1 Hnp

Jelly salad - 1.3 SP per 1 HnP

Mixed foods:

Banana pop - 2.64 SP + 1.6 HlP (4.24 P) per 1 HnP

Wobster dinner - 1.3 SP + 1.6 HlP (2.9 P) per 1 HnP

Surf and turf - 0.88 SP + 1.6 HlP (2.48 P) per 1 HnP

Vegie burger - 0.88 SP + 08 HlP (1.68 P) per 1 HnP

Creamy potato puree - 0.88 SP + 0.53 HlP (1.41 P) per 1 HnP

Btw, Wurt has a hunger bonus upon eating, but doesn't have a health bonus for this

Spoiler

Unfun fact: You can make a guaranteed Fruit medley with just the materials found in the ruins (excluding the ones for a crockpot) using 3 cave bananas and one nightmare fuel

I think avoiding nutritious food is against the spirit of DS. Maybe if some dishes filled less hunger I'd agree.

Ive played some shooter games where even though you have a Medkit on you, you can’t use it until your health dips below 75%

Sir this is a DST, not fps game.

I do support the idea of not wanting to eat with a full belly however. Doesn't make sense when you still gain health/sanity when your stomach is full already.

Yeah eating two strips of bacon to instantly undo the damage caused by the huge claws of a creature 5x your height makes sense but being able to do that multiple times in a row is where it starts to become unrealistic.

Just play Warly. He's already exactly what you're asking for.

Oh, dang I can go on, but I'll try to keep it short. Cooking rework! Add more fluids to the game (Maybe have a distinguish between fresh and salt waters). Smoothie station? (I love smoothies lol) I want to make coffee like in shipwrecked, maybe add something like pemmican. Outside of Warly and some specific foods I don't really think cooking has that much unique to it instead its more just "What do I have what can I make?" I think cooking could be so much more and have much more mechanics to it. buffs/debuffs etc.

I wish food had more uses.
for example, a stew would not immediately restore hunger, but gradually thereby restore less hunger, but the character will be full for more time due to the effect.
Sea acorn dishes would slow down the loss of hunger
and stuff like that

I would really love to see Winter's Feast eating expanded in some way, outside of event mainly.
Maybe a separate craft for the table on which you can put foods and crockpot dishes, which you can share with other players. For example you can put 1 Meatballs + 1 Pierogi on the table and distribute stats evenly to all players when they sit down. Of course, it could use buffs or nuances so that you maybe get more hunger depending on amount of people, or depending on dish combinations you put on the table.

It's more of a fun thing to make for multiplayer when you want to chill, it doesn't need to be to good enough to let you sit down and enjoy the feast while Ancient Fuelweaver is trying to impale you in combat.

Not Raw food, but i think there should be some kind of buff or something else that you would want to make different recipes besides meatballs for hunger and pierogi for/honey ham for hp.

Maybe they could introduce some NPC like the yaarctopus that gives you rewards or a new quest for making specific dishes now and then.

Or maybe they could rework the pets which are annoying and useless, and let them eat some unique and specific dishes in order for their buffs to work, that would be amazing

I generally don't feel cooking needs more "complexity" to it all, but rebalancing them in restorative values, requirements and adding more quirky special effects would be nice - and one thing that I think can make different crock pot dishes differently valuable: QUANTITIES.

For example, creating something like California Roll currently makes 1x fooditem, which restores 20 health, 37,5 hunger and 10 sanity.
So, what if cooking California Roll instead grants 4x stacks of California Roll, but each one only restored 5 health, 10 hunger and 5 sanity? Of course, these "multicharge" fooditems would also be able to stack way more in a single slot (instead of the usual 20x per slot, this version of caliroll would stack up to like 60 or so). That way, there could be different foods for different purposes: These multicharge foods could work as small-stat "snacks" / more easily shared foods, while some continue to work as hearty big "bursty" meals like now.

And, here's some foods I think just generally really need a look over:

Spoiler
  • California Roll - Along with being in dire need of numerical buffs, I think it would fit really well as a "multi-charge" food, as described above.
  • Ceviche - Ridiculously weak. Maybe make it give +33 sanity and only require 1 fish value (rather than whopping 2), so it has a decent sanity niche?
  • Fish Tacos - Very overshadowed by Fish Sticks, despite being more "expensive" to make. Should definitely be more filling (50 hunger?), at least.
  • Fish Sticks - Could maybe need a tiny nerf? Like, 30 health, instead of 40?
  • Wobster Bisque - If Fish Sticks gets nerfed, this insane healing item could also be toned down, say to 40 healing, down from 60?
    • This nerf would also indirectly make Wobster Dinner a bit more worthwhile.
  • Seafood Gumbo - On top of altering its values (like 30 health, 120 hunger and 5 sanity?), I think this should NOT require MORE fish than meat, but rather simply need at least EQUAL amount of fish as meat (i.e. something like 2 big fishes and 2 Small fishes should make Seafood Gumbo, rather than Surf n Turf)
    • Surf n Turf - Would now need to have MORE meat value than fish value (its requirement of 1,5 fish and 2,5 meat remains the same though). This just makes sense, as that's what this real life dish is all about - it's a dish mixing regular meat AND fish. Because right now you can use 2 big fishes and 2 small fishes, with no extra meat, and get Surf n Turf.
  • Unagi - Simply not worthwhile, I think more hunger (37,5?) and sanity (15?) would make it a decent cave meal.
  • Banana Pop, Ice Cream and Melonsicle - Imo, these ought to last WAY longer when stored in an ice box.
  • Dragonpie - Maybe make it require an egg as well?
  • Asparagus Soup - Just more hunger please (like 37,5)?
  • Fruit Medley - Considering it needs 3 Fruit value, this could simply be buffed across the board. Like 30 health, 37,5 hunger and 33 sanity, making it an ok allrounder.
  • Pumpkin Cookie - Aside from needing statboosts, this would be another food item I think could work really well as a "multicharge" item (Example, 1 craft of this grants 3x Pumpkin Cookies, and each cookie now restores 10 health, 20 hunger and 10 sanity).
  • Stuffed Eggplant - How about giving 50 hunger, so it has actually has reasonable value?
  • Waffles - Considering it needs the rare BUTTER, this item just needs to be more filling (like 62,5 hunger, up from measly 37,5).

.

Buff healing items to actually be useful/better than healing food. Maybe speed up the animation, increase the amount crafted at a time, more types of healing items.

Nerf food to heal over a day instead of instantly. Certain characters could be given a faster healing factor as a boon for them.

Would still heal the same amount just not immediately in the middle of fighting.

Nearly all of my healing comes from jellybeans, but before I kill bq outside of the ruins (blue caps) and maybe dfly (trail mix) nearly all of my healing comes from healing items. They never spoil, are easy to amass, and are just so convenient. Healing food is just really inconvenient, I have to go out of my way to make it and it has to be done immediately before what I'm going to use it for since it spoils so fast.

If you don't want to use healing food, don't. If you want to be forced not to, play Warly or Wormwood. They're already perfect for you. I don't know why there's so many comments here acting like healing food is so overpowered when jellybeans exist.

Aboslutely agree with all of this. Feels like the more I play this game, the more I'm using healing items instead of foods. No spoilage and being able to craft them anywhere without needing a crockpot are just too beneficial for me. Still use healing foods time to time though.

Apart from jellybeans, I don't like healing items due to the long animation.

This is why I also value highly healing foods with short animation time (like butter muffins).

This would be the case if bundlewraps were not in the game (or your team couldn't/wouldn't acquire the bundlewrap recipe).

The sole existence of wraps negates spoilage, and I always have a bundle with 40 dragonpies, 40 jelly salads, 40 perogies, 40 baconeggs, and when I need them I pluck out about 5-7 dishes to prepare for a boss or smth.

Girlfriend just had a horseback riding spine accident (nothing permanent luckily) so that is literally how she has to heal that.

I wonder how many broken bones a Wigfrid player would be getting in my average pub.

Survivors in this game are less like survivors and more like superheroes. We have Wolverine Wigfrid, Hulk Wolfgang and literal Spiderman.

Isn't there still a "fat" attribute that is tied to butter that doesn't actually do anything? Now that Wolfgang has a proper muscle meter that probably would be something that could be revisited so that you are a bit more choosy with what foods you actually eat.

Could probably be used with the other survivors as well if you wanted to make it so that you can't just overeat endlessly to restore damaged stats at will.

This is more true than people realize some characters could legit being boss battles.
