Whenever did I say there has been no constructive criticism of the new system?

Here is your own comment:

What is there to debate exactly? All I see is vague complaints made without elaboration.

steam forums, the subreddit or even here

I don't know about reddit and steam forums, but Klei forums and beta section specifically is primary mean of communication to Klei, which is obvious and intuitive. And there were a lot more people, I just didn't want to make post even longer and ping them all. Plus same people left multiple comments pointing out different things, so it's not "only 4 people" (and more than only 4 comments).

I myself think I was loud enough since I created a thread and left multiple comments in others, in beta branch and general discussion, and other people did this too. Since you agree I gave (mostly, according to you) valid critisism, your claim

the loudest complaints have invariably boiled down to "it's different".

creates clear contradiction. One of 2 has to be false even from your perspective. Because you can't clain one forumer is louder than the other if both have 1 thread created each and some comments.

Or should I create 1 topic per day about crafting menu and ctrl+c->ctrl+v original posts to be loud enough? I, personally, feel like I would flood forum in this case, inconvenience both players and devs and actually achieve opposite result.

I do tend to "ignore" valid criticism, because arguing against it tends to be counterproductive

If you agree problem is there, you can support valid critisism. You can also state that you are mostly indifferent but disagree with X or Y specifically. Otherwise you don't seem to be indifferent with this first response in the thread, not to mention hostility pouring from your comment:

Anyway, as far as I know there is no setting for "legacy crafts location", as well as ability to manually hide/add crafts to desired tabs. It would be completely optional, and I could have mostly old layout of things with birdcage and some refined materials on new places (custom). You specifically wouldn't be affected at all, and it's only natural for people to like and consider convenient different things. If you are neutral to change, and someone could benefit from change, there is no need to resist possible change and leave comments like these.

I commented a single sentence in response to a single part of it suggesting that filters be condensed because, apparently, you had deemed them redundant

False, no such claim was made by me.

False, no one wrote that filters are unnecessary for everyone as absolute statement. The only thing that was written by @x0-VERSUS-1y is the fact that for some people filters don't solve a problem, and that some people didn't even know to look for search tool since they have no difficulty of remembering location of things, be it old or new menu. Being unable to find a thing and being inconvenienced by attention split between all small squares in the table are different things.

Also do you really think new players would use filters? I see - in game - people complaining about stuff being all over the place. How would even veteran player know about filter shenanigans without patch notes and such? If one actually has life in real world - i.e. doesn't live on forums/in DST, - I tell you the secret: person will be confused either until they quit/use mod, or for very long time, and even then remain unsatisfied with the result. Happened with some of my friends that usually spend only 1 day per week on DST. DST is not network learning simulator, it's survival simulator.

You made a thread (that, to be fair, was longer than a Leonard Cohen song)

Was I supposed to be upset and feel attacked by this statement? If I need to tell a lot of things, I make long posts. Period. I try to structure them and use spoiler thing when I feel appropiate; my knowledge of punctuation is ok as well, I use highlighed text, so if you are too lazy to read, abstrain from discussion. Because I feel I'm doing everything I can to be better understood and to make long posts ok to read.

I don't enjoy the UI personally. Partially cause the previous UI was neat and simple to scroll through for what you want, this one just has too many categories. There needs to be a simpler alternative to this similar to how previous UI was. Right now for me personally it feels awkward to search through.

Maybe it's a lot to stomach after 7 years playing this game, but it's definitely a lot of a drastic change. Everything on previous UI was neatly categorized on what I need and want and where it was, this one's a bit more cluttered. the hud is massive blocking 3rd of my screen and needing extra buttons to turn off.

I stand with my current opinion till I change my mind if I ever get used to it. As said, it's rather painfully hard to stomach right now. I'd keep the pinned crafts while keeping the old UI tho. Might be a lil useful together.

like birdcage in structures, beefalo saddles and salt lick in tools, lure's prototyper in structures, potter wheel on science...

I wasn't saying it was perfect, but that just sounds like they were dumped into bad categories than anything. Remaking everything with the UI solves a problem then created another.

The thing is the problem with the categories wasn't really isolated to a few items. The entire Survival and Structures Tab were essentially dumping grounds for items that did not really fit anywhere else, and even for several items that did. The Science Tab had a somewhat similar problem, in that it was largely composed of stuff that could were put there without apparent rhyme or reason.

Addendum: Even if the old UI's general structure had been kept, the overhaul to the categories has been a long time coming due to how bloated a lot of them had become and the limitations that bloat imposed on the devs' ability to add more crafts. (As seen with the turfs and fishing equipment.)

Klei did a pretty good job at deprecation, I must say! It was way easier to roll back than I anticipated.

I'm not interested in publishing mods myself, but if anyone wants to give it a try - here's what you need to do:

  • Restore "tab" values for each recipe
  • Revert CraftingMenu back to CraftTabs in PlayerHUD's Controls
  • Fix a couple crashes here and there
  • (Optional) Revert controller hookups

I kinda wish there was a toggle on it in the settings or something, which crafting system you would want to use. I'll try and look around for mods to make things better for now though.

I've been trying this one out for a bit. It has some flaws for personal reasons, but I'm trying to find other ways to fix that. Thank you!

Jesus Christ, just stop playing the game if you're not happy with where it's headed. Bitching and moaning about changes you have no control over is not going to make the devs go back on months of work just to please you, dearest OP.

Point being, y'all need to stop being so entitled. You're not the developers, your opinions are not special, and your say in where DST goes is minimal, get that through your thick skulls.

can you please grow up and stop insulting people that dislike new changes, the entire point of the forums is to give feedback to the devs so they can try to make everyone happy as much as their time and capabilities allow

Well, is not just OP, but quite many players complaining about new Crafting UI, segments or as a whole. Likewise KLei asked for input in their QoL announcement post, hence people give feedback - it doesn't mean it will always be positive. Lastly OP stated their opinion. You can beg to disagree - even better, with substantiated assertions - but not shut them down on account of not sharing your opinion or a certain general line of thinking. Every comment gives a better understanding to KLei on how their work was received and how can be improved, since they're willing to do so. And is not entitlement, but customer privilege to state their opinions about purchased product, even if payed price is very low/minimal. Tangentially, one thing the gaming industry imperiously needs is customers being treated better, politely, professionally and not with products in beta states (full of bugs and whatnot) upon official release, since this practice got rooted as some "standard policy" that wouldn't fly in any other industry out there, irl.
