Gems should strengthen and weaken him, like purple gems summon more geysers, but weaken his claws, either by reducing their hp, damage, how many spawn, etc. I'd also like to see the trident be an indestructible weapon that you can socket a gem into and it would gain new effects, like mobs drop more loot with green gems, it's damage becoming electric with a yellow gem, etc. You might say that this sounds op, and to that I say: yeah, it would be, but thats the beauty of dst being a pve game, you can add overpowered things in order to make the game more fun.

Make yellow gems change the timer in 0.5 steps (or even 0.25 per gem, as opposed to per 2 gems), rescale the freeze range and freeze resistance per blue gem into a more reasonable interval, substract 2 from the current number of geysers per purple gem.

Aside from the obvious imbalance and bad loot, 3 other changes must be made to make the fight interesting in my opinion. For me, without the former 2 ideas below it doesn't feel like a complete boss, more that it's bugged and is the way it is because it was never patched enough.

* Crab King should move

* Crab King should submerge and emerge but not underneath a boat

* We need stationed ranged weapons aside from Winona's catapults, or the whole ranged weapon system to be reworked. I can imagine this would be a lot of fun if 1 or 2 players have to navigate the boat while others try to deal damage to it and do much more reasonable repairs to the boat

Also any combination of gems should always be doable. There is also the issue of rarity for certain gems making certain fights costlier not just in combat but in loss of rare gems as well.

Maybe an update for Malbatross AND Crab King. While, admittedly, I havent fought them yet im too incompetent, from what ive seen they really need to be reworked. Malbatross should have higher spawn chance and Crab King's gem stats has to be changed and maybe Pearl could also show the player where he is on the map. And also new loot added.

If you already found celestial sanctum pieces on the main land and celestial altar pieces on lunar island, astral detector is going to point towards crab king.

These suggestions would honestly make him a lot better for solo play. The healing is 50% of the problem for solo play and then the other 50% is the claw health. I’m biased because I always do this fight with one other person and I absolutely love it, but I want other people to be able to appreciate it too lol. I hope we can get this across to the devs somehow.

The spawn chance is bad, and there are people complaining about it. It took me like 30 fish and 5 shoal visits, to still not spawn it, and just use the world settings, and set it to lots.

I think the point of being able to socket different gems to it, was that you can make the fight as hard as you want. Problem is, unlike misery toadstool, there is no reward in doing so.

They should probably add different loot to different combinations of gems, so there isn't a single way to obtain all CK's loot:

  • Pearled will always give you all the quest items no matter the gems used. 
  • Trident will always drop no matter gems used
  • All purple gems, or no particular combination of gems will grant a generalist loot (probably a map for a sunken chest somewhere) 
  • A specific combination of colors (up to 3 different combinations) will grant an extra map for another sunken chest. This second sunken chest will have something unique, so to get all his loot you have to fight it at least 3 times.

This. Basic trident could deal undestructible spear damage (both in land and water), BUT if you socket gems, the gems will add damage (it changes depending on the gem)  and add different effects to the trident and the special attack.

Moonlens is hardly what I had in mind. The act of socketing the gem is superfluous and inconsequential for anything other than map markers. Recipe for moondial might as well have been moon rocks ice and a blue gem and nothing would have been different.  

I was talking about an item or structure where u can put different gems into according to what effect u want and also be able to swap them out when the gems run out of juice and u want a different effect. Something like this does not exist in the game.

but they arent absolutely great against every enemy, since it will die easily against aoe foes and also gets killed by things that have high health

Yeah a lot of the time they're more trouble than they're worth but they can kill just about anything.

The make-your-own-boss concept is great, but for it to work, you would need the boss's standard form to be relatively easy, so that it would then fall to the players to decide which aspects they want to make hard.

The Crab King, however, starts out being overwhelming and only gets worse from there, with half the options essentially being a death sentence.

Whats wrong with sailing? You don't have to use an oar if you hate using one, but if you're fine with using one then driftwood one is actually pretty fast and easy to get. The boat mechanics themselves seem completely fine to me, the issues for me however come from the oceans lack of content, it feels like you're aimlessly moving around. This isn't helped by the fact that you can guarantee find the lunar islands and Pearls island literally gets marked on the map, so theres nothing to explore besides 2 bosses and a singular biome which you get like 3 per world.

You can click options under your post then hide to delete it, but I think mods still see it. As long as nobody responds to you while quoting your entire post it'll be hidden from everyone else.

I remember back in the beta, PCK has lower stats. Then the day the beta went to the main-branch, Klei omega buffed him and I had to scrap my guide for him. I didn't really understand why they buffed him since I felt like his stats were good during the beta.

It's probably too late to go back to their stats and some tech has since been discovered since then, so idk what Klei should do to make this fight not be in its current state.
