ADM Posted February 1, 2022 Share Posted February 1, 2022 I've been hoping for something similar to what @SonicDen220 says but I want to elaborate a bit and detail exactly what I could wish for. The only characters I've been playing lately are the one that shines in various aspects of the game, so no wonder I've been playing a lot of Wanda but I also really liked the outcome of Woodie rework and some ideas of the extras that have been added to Wolfgang (however I didn't like the rest). So this should keep on going and WX will be a hot topic again. To me I only see them as a too powerful tank with too much comfort, long lasting worlds have no troubles stacking gears in absurd amounts, making dying as WX by far one of the least expectable thing when you have the highest health and no reason to wait before healing (unlike Wanda who shines on low health only) while you have twice the time worth from food to health or restore sanity if gears aren't enough already. Gear Upgrades : Kinda the core of the gameplay and probably what I think needs changes the most. The concept of levelling up your character while venturing for gears must be fun for beginners till you reach the cap and enjoy the outcome, but for someone more experimented, you will level from 0 to 15 in a single day as you decide to barge in the ruins like that : Or immediately just by picking WX after a character switch as you played a while before. While that's not a problem, I just believe this doesn't make a fun experience out of the gears grind. The accessibility of resources in DST will always depend of the player skills and it doesn't only apply to gears (and to other games). But so I would probably only have a good experience out of levelling up my character again with a more deep levelling system than just straight up stat upgrades. I'd be ready to welcome a sort of "ability points" system from gears in a dedicated tab for WX or via unique buildings in the Science Tab. Something more or less large to let's say "build your own character interests" ? If you'd prefer to be into fighting, navigating, crafting, working... with always the ability to reset things (at a cost or not, anyway character swap was always too accessible...) and obviously caps so you don't just max out one thing, who'd be too ridiculous. This would make such a great alternative to "pick and swap" gamestyle by just looking to play differently out of a character you already have. I won't be suggesting anything as for what all the upgrades could be but Klei can either hit or miss this whole idea, by adding entirely new abilities like increased map reveal, or even filling with a lot of more common stat upgrades like inherent armor, but I only hope such a thing won't be filled with 10 sort of Fireproof Falsettos. Water Damage : This downside sounds fun but its execution in game does too little. WX is not damaged by water but by rain or sinking. Being at 1 or 100 wetness doesn't have any consequences more than other basic characters, only being exposed to rain matters. This should be changed and maybe do more than just a tiny damage every 3sec (surely an old Wanda would die faster!), damages should scale based on wetness, probably other things could happen, WX starts to have incoherent speeches when massively wet so how about "bugging" the gameplay a bit just for fun ? Like reversed controls past a threshold of wetness, slower crafting and sanity jumping to random numbers every sparks ? It's probably asking too much, but a funny punish for his only downside which so easily avoided could deserve such interactions. System Overload : The overload system is a bit too much of a gimmick imo, while I like the idea, the lightning sources of the game are hard to control and not always worth going after them, outside of the big Wicker / WX combo being so ridiculously cheap for an assured permanent overload time if you wish repeating it and being restricted to multiplayer... the rest won't be as simple, it's either awkward farm exploits or using teleportation which will destroy your sanity more for less. There's just no right middle. Things should be simpler and more incorporated to the core gameplay, by already making it more accessible, for example recovering power from lightning rods as suggested previously (as for real nobody care about storing the charge for light, this should serve a better purpose). But that's not all because triggering the effect is only the first oddity of the perk, it's also difficult to keep track of the time left before running out of power, especially when you're just doped from The End Is Nigh, all you know is that is will last a while. So yeah despite we usually complaint about character having custom meters, WX would have been the best candidate to have an informal meter of how long you will be overloaded. Not only that will be helpful to plan things ahead but also that could finally bring a max amount of time instead of reducing calculations for every charges, which doesn't especially prevent anything but certain busted scenarios, one charge should be one day, simple as that, how about 5 days max ? Also I'll just suggest one last thing which is probably a bit weird but I liked how Woodie switched between hunger to were-ness stats between forms, maybe same could be applied between overload and hunger instead of making it a 4th separated stats ? I'm aware all of that is a complete rework idea and not just random thoughts, but that's really the kind of stuff I'd be looking for. slendyproject Posted February 1, 2022 Share Posted February 1, 2022 Instead of eating gears for stat ups, wx should make different components for different enhancements. Give them some extra inventory slots that can only hold components and make it so that installing and uninstalling components can be only done at a stationary machine. But here is my main idea: If wx is defined by what other characters combo well with them then the rework should lean into this teamwork aspect. Make it so that every single character has a unique component that only they can craft for wx. Willow makes a heating component, wolfgang makes a damage bonus one, winona a mini generator to retain electricity from thunder strikes, walter a ranged weapon, just give everyone something that is useful in some situation. This way wx would have a lot of playstyles and could adapt to different situations by changing out the components. And their combo aspect would go from an annoying balance problem to an actually interesting feature. ShadowDuelist Posted February 1, 2022 Share Posted February 1, 2022 Remove the eating gears mechanic, perhaps it should be able to heal some eating frazzled wires instead but no stats boost by eating that. Default WX should get the eating spoiled food perk and overcharged light and immune to freezing perks. WX can craft Different upgrades (of different difficulties to get the parts) and place inside itself, which will add perks and change the way WX works. The upgrades will also boost some of WX basic stats, but it’s variable depending the upgrade chosen. Let’s say you can put up to 2 upgrades at any given time, even though WX can craft 10 of them. So the combination of perks your WX will have is up to the player and may be different on every player. Perhaps these upgrades will get better the more days you have them on yourself, so changing them often would be a con in itself. One upgrade slot can change a default perk of the character: EG “can pick crops, grass, twigs, etc instantly and gets 10% more attack speed” And the other slot of upgrades changes what overcharged does to WX. Spoiler The speedy one could be one of the overcharged slot upgrades but there could be others instead, like adding electric damage to all its attacks and when being hit, or another one that causes it to emit a huge light radious and heat radius, causing crops around overcharged WX to grow faster, and other players can heat up in winter next to it. Or another allows charged WX to make small jumps, basically functioning like Wheeler’s dash. Some upgrades would be combat oriented, others utility oriented, and others coop gameplay oriented. It would be up to you how to play your WX. Also the game has changed since WX started existing I’d give it a passive -1.1 sanity when on a boat. I mean it’s the one character that can be hurt the most when falling to the ocean it’s understandable it’s anxious at the ocean, but yet not making it crippling. Spoiler Maybe an upgrade can remove that anxiety, make WX partially waterproof, fast drying, faster rower and better fisher. My PTSD from Wolfgang refresh makes me feel obligated to state the following though: You already get more than enough gears for the team just by clearing a single bishop-rook-rook setpiece in the ruins and by fighting the shadow pieces. Anything more than that was always a luxury anyways, so just let WX-78 munch those excess gears and save food for the team. But if you go into the ruins you get way more than enough frazzled wire, too. So what exactly is the reason that it needs to be gears instead of wires? Since you're only looking at the ruins as if everyone always wants to go there nothing should change at all for you. You still get the same thing the same way. The only thing that changes is that people who can't or won't go into the ruins don't get screwed because the WX rework just happened so every server has like 100 of him come through every day. There is no reason for that, except for it always having been gears. I wouldn't mind it, but because wires lose their value later than the gears do, I believe consuming wires would have a slightly bigger impact on the team, still barely noticable. The vast majority of them will not go to the ruins, and may not even go to the caves. If he consumes gears then there'll be no gears for anyone if nobody's gone to the ruins, but with how many WX there will be even if the ruins are cleared they'd probably eat all the gears up. If it was changed to frazzled wires then only the ones who actually earned the upgrades will get them, and they won't be sabotaging people by eating tons of gears. Frazzled wires are already frequently left behind in the ruins. Gold is easy to get and while they are worth a good bit of gold the ruins has a ton of them, way too many to really need. This wouldn't be like the Wolfgang rework where they're changing how you achieve your power from eating a cheap item to afking all day long. It'd just be changing it from one item that's plentiful in the ruins to another.
