New Trade Inn Game: Kitcoon Puppet

Recommended Posts

Introducing the Kitcoon Puppet
With the new Year of the Catcoon update Klei added a new fun "game" to the Trade Inn, this time it'll take much longer to complete.
The Kitcoon Puppet is an extremely cute Kitcoon which you have to take care of and it eventually grows.
You have to feed it, play with it and clear it's poops.
Take a look at the Mechanics section of this post to find more information about how it works.

There are 9 Kitcoon types/builds:

Mechanics
Here's an extensive guide on how the Kitcoon Puppet functions.

Basic Info

  • Make sure to clean your Kitcoon's poops before going back to the main menu.
  • You can leave your Kitcoon for 100 hours before it abandons you.
  • Here's what happens when it abandons you:
    Spoiler

    bowqOX.png

  • It shows up the main, character bio, compendium, mystery box, collection, redeem, server slot, wardrobe, player summary, server creation, multiplayer and options screens. Note: There's only a 40% chance that it shows up and it picks a random position.
  • You only have to feed and play with your Kitcoon every 50 hours if you want it to grow.
  • It'll take 500 hours for it to fully grow if you constantly play with it and feed it.
  • It can grow big. Warning: Spoilers!

Default/Starting Stats
Happiness: 0.7 (min 0, max 1, higher is better)
Hunger: 0.3 (min 0, max 1, lower is better)
Size: 0.3 (min 0.3, max 1.2)
Poops: 0 (min 0, max 6, lower is better)
Age: 5 to 10 days (randomly decided)
Build: Random build out of the listed 9 on the top

For every hour you've been away (counts time outside of the game)

  • If the Kitcoon is not hungry (not over 0.5 hunger), increase it's size by 1 / 500.
  • Decrease happiness by 1 / 100.
  • Increase hunger by 1 / 100.
  • If the hunger is more than 1, set happiness to 0.

After that's calculated then it does the following:

  • Increase poop count by hours_away / 4, with the decimals cut off.
  • If the happiness is less than or equal to 0, abandon it (which then deletes the poops).

Events

  • Playing: Increases happiness by 0.15.
  • Feeding: Decreases hunger by 0.15.
  • Leaving the Kitcoon game: Decreases happiness by poops * 0.12.

Random Animations

  • Sleeping: Kitcoon is under 0.05 hunger (well fed) and over 0.95 happiness (very happy).
  • Distress: Kitcoon is over 0.85 hunger (very hungry) and under 0.15 happiness (very sad).
  • Licking: Kitcoon is at 0 hunger (fully fed).
  • Walking/Playing: Kitcoon is at 1 happiness (fully happy).

That's it!
If I've missed something or messed up some calculations please let me know!
Enjoy!

Hopefully in the future this will get expanded upon and we'll get more pets to play with each other. Maybe some toys or specific interactions as well. Something like how it is in Pokemon Sword/Shield perhaps. Anyone remember Tamagotchi?

This thing reminds me of Tamagotchi- I bought a bunch of those.. but I also grew bored of and let them all die to become a spooky ghost!

Tamagotchi was boring when it first came out.. and was boring when it had its Resurrection phase of popularity.

However: From Tamagotchi’s creation spawned games like Pocket Pikachu, Nintendogs, Nintencats, Kinectaimals, & Zoo Tycoon.

The above mentioned games were more in depth and extremely less boring.. because instead of just feeding a boring pet clean up it’s poop, petting it and then it sleeping for hours, You could play with your pets by throwing balls to them, flicking frisbees, give them baths, coach them through Obstacle Courses, & so much more.

In it’s current form- I would rather just play with the Kitcoons that are in the actual game & abandon the one in Trade-Inn forever.

But maybe someday he will get upgrades to be as fun & awesome as the games i mentioned above.

I mean, its cute for a trade in mini game. Its just supposed to be a novelty during the event and not a full fledged reason you open up DST.

Let them spend future time and effort on real content.

From what I understand about Klei’s design process they assign specific people to specific tasks- like they have a particular “team” assigned to do updates to Console version, a team assigned to Reworks, team assigned to new content updates, team assigned to another unrelated Klei project.

I don’t think there’s ever been a time where the entirety of Klei have stopped doing anything just to focus on one thing.

They could assign for example one particular person to updating this Mini-Game as their “Passion Project” and that wouldn’t ever impact, hurt or slowdown the development of other types of content because the person working on turning Kitcoon Mini-Game into Kinectaimals has nothing to do with the people who are working on continuing the story where Return of Them left off.

It's cute and fun, but come ON Klei, guilt tripping messages for not taking care of virtual pets is so uncool... Yeah, I shouldn't take this too serious, I just personally despise "you are a bad person for not playing"-kind of text, even as a joke, there are kids playing this game too who are easier influenced by this stuff.

Yeah that's definitely taking it too seriously.

The message is informational. It explains the cat left because of lack of affection, food, and tidiness. That's it. It's concise and to the point. It doesn't unnecessarily dig into the player.

Its cute! Sad i got the ugly marsh cat but I will still care for my new son

I do hope they add a little bit more to it though. like a little mini tamagotchi where you have a few more options other than just feed or pet, especially given the toys in the actual game. I wanna shower my dumb cat with love and junk

They should put in an actual "prize" too if there isnt one. C'mon, that blue kitcoon would be a wonderful icon

Yeah, I guess, I got unnecessarily emotional over this, because, in reality, it might not be the kids who are overly affected by this... it's ME:D

  • You can leave your Kitcoon for 100 hours before it abandons you.

So if I don't like the colors of the one I got I can wait 100 hours and get a different one?

  • Leaving the Kitcoon game: Decreases happiness by poops * 0.12.

So if I want to get rid of it fast I just need to wait for it to build up poops, and then enter / leave the game room a lot?

Profile:SetKitBuild("kitcoon_moon_build")

This will allow you to change your Kitcoon build and it'll keep the same stats.

Replace moon with whichever type u want obviously.
