DST/Terraria crossover? What? Is there something I missed?

Recommended Posts

When i saw the skin comparison, the first thing that came to my mind is that a DST artist just took extreme inspiration from a terraria item and that's it. Are you guys basing the crossover idea on something more, or just the new skin? Are there some news from terraria developers maybe?

The biggest basis is the "Super amazing never before seen special event in october" the developers have been teasing in the last two update posts:

Waterlogged:

We also have a new special thing we have never done before that we're pretty excited about for October that is super secret.

Wanda DLC:

Ok - I can't say a lot about what's coming up next. We have some pretty significant QOL stuff coming. (.....) I don't have a teaser image today, because of reasons I can't say right now

Thus, a crossover fits perfectly to the "never done before secret event". The leaked clean sweeper skin that is DIRECTLY MODELED from the terraria seals the deal that the crossover is upon us. There were previous twitter-facebook posts about how terraria would welcome a crossover with Don't starve to I think. Such deals are planned beforehand and come with non-disclosure agreements so it also fits well to the series of secretive content teasing. If it's not it and we are all mistaken, so be it. But all clues are pointing to one certain conclusion right now, and there isn't any other feasible answers to what the teased special on october can be.

The clean sweeper skin is either literal plagiarism or confirmation of a collab. The 2 brushes look identical, the spectre brush wasn’t just an inspiration; the clean sweeper skin is supposed to look like it.

Also, don’t forget about the supposed “whenworldscollide” code and that time Cenx said she wanted to do a collab with DST.

I think there's a lot in common that really scream that this item is pretty much a match for the Spectre Paintbrush in Terraria. If you compare the image from the supposed leak to the actual item, you can see many similarities. This includes the light blue brush bristles, a green "gem" in the middle, a spike on both sides, and a purple coloring for the handle. Along with what others have said about the hints, we don't truly know if we're getting a collaboration or not at the end. At minimum, we know Terraria may bleed into DST in one way or another if this skin is going to get added.

The one thing everyone is sweeping under the rug and forgetting is Klei’s Tencent announcement, I don’t actually PLAY Terraria but if I had to bet money on it: Tencent has shares into Terraria as well.

Tencent actually owns shares into many many many MANY TV Shows, Movies & Video Game Franchises.

Some of the most Noteable:

Fortnite, Gears of War, Rocket League, Wonder Woman (the movie)

And well there’s literally a Hambat skin in Fortnite- I believe that now that DST is also in the list of franchises Tencent has shares into that cross-overs between other franchises with their involvement are 100% likely to happen.

(Does anyone actually know if Tencent has shares in Terraria?)

Eitherway.. the fact these threads aren’t LOCKED when other threads like “Add Mario’s Hat to DST” Are.. pretty much confirms it?

This image is from an AMA done by the Terraria devs a while ago. Everything just makes sense for it to be a Terraria crossover.

Obviously this could just be another Klei ruse and the super secret thing could be something else entirely, which doesn’t sound too bad, but the amount of evidence is pretty telling.

Relogic is a tiny indie company, do you actually think tencent has a share in them? If you honestly believe this, please use the power of google before rambling about something that isn’t true.

Klei is a tiny Indie company too but.. look how that turned out. ;)

Im not trying to start an Argument, trust me I’ve got way better things to do.. but I don’t sit here and take the time to type out long thoughtful posts about a game franchise I’m passionate for & really do want to see amongst the best games of all time someday, for the things I say to be dismissed away as useless rambling.

Klei could’ve never made the Tencent Announcement public and none of us would’ve ever been any wiser, who’s to say Terraria isn’t already doing that?

Better yet- IF they have not gotten shares in Terraria yet then if this Cross-Over is REAL then Terraria players better expect Tencent to now be eyeballing shares into Terraria next.

Because like it or not… that is a thing and it happened and these forums erupted into widespread chaos, confusion, anger & excitement when that highly controversial studio announcement was made.

Based and most likely illegal.
Also Terraria is not a company

I’m no expert on business but I don’t think this is how it works

In the Head of Business Strategy & Marketing of Re-Logic's own words, "For one dollar more than what Notch got for Minecraft"

If you couldn't tell, Re-Logic doesn't want anyone owning Terraria.

It's not likely to happen——Terraria isn't really a popular game in China, and its last agent of PE1.3 had completely ruined it that basically everyone turns to the global version. And games can't really show human organs in China, even red blood are not allowed.

Welp.

What's really amazed me about this whole discussion is the fact that the Spectre Paintbrush of all things is the item that sparked it all.

To those who haven't played Terraria before, this thing is so unbelievably forgettable that I didn't even know it was an item in Terraria until now.

I reinstalled it last night to give it a second chance, ended up deleting it again though- I like some of the mobs in that game, what I Don’t like at all is dying 2000x and Respawning like dying means next to nothing. Now- I died because I let it get dark and things endlessly spawned to kill me but that’s besides the point.

I really wanted to like this game, but playing it on Xbox was not a fun experience, when I spend more time fighting with the Xbox Controller and a bunch of wacky menus of things on screen: That’s when the game isn’t any fun.

And trust me I figured out how to do things like equip a sword or mine the ground out from under my feet or open chests and get cool ninja stars, and how to aim and throw those- Butttt it was still a pain to play & I found it highly un-enjoyable.

I enjoy Minecraft, Dont Starve, DST- but I did not like the way Terraria plays on Xbox at all…

Maybe it’s better as a PC or Mobile game, I don’t know- but what I do know is it’s one of the games that found itself on my list of uninstalled.

With all that said: Some of the Mobs and craftables in Terraria were pretty cool, I wouldn’t mind seeing a few of those in DSTs art style in my favorite game.

DST plays really really well on an Xbox controller with only a few minor exceptions, such as aim distances, and NOT being able to tame Gnarwail, other than that though- the game is significantly LESS of a headache then trying to play Terraria on Xbox..

The TL:DR- if Klei wants to take the cool looking mobs and structures from terraria and bring those into DST in DSTs Artstyle I wouldn’t mind.

console terraria used to be great, but for some reason things were changed so all the versions alligned and looked the same as the pc version, which lead to a bunch of console exclusive content getting cut (search ocram for instance)

I absolutely despise crossovers with a burning passion and I hope there will be none whatsoever.
All crossovers are, is an excuse to directly rip-off assets and ideas from other games and place them into yours; such that you don't have to actually try to innovate or create anything new.
Surprise surprise, the cancerous tumor on gaming society known as Fortnite is over 97% crossover material, ripping off every movie franchise known to mankind.
Instead of begging for a crossover, you all should ask for something of actual substance, something that will actually improve the game and make it better.
I play "Don't Starve". I bought Don't Starve so I could play Don't Starve, because I like Don't Starve.
Why would I want Terraria, a game I very specifically am NOT playing right now, to invade the other game I actually enjoy?
You people don't make any sense.

If I were watching The Lord of the Rings, and suddenly Chuck Norris and Luke Skywalker emerge from nowhere and roundhouse-kick Sauron's head off, I would walk out of the theatre in disgust. It is disgusting, tasteless, and utterly lacking in depth or creativity. And that's ALL crossovers.

I would pay to watch this movie… I absolutely hated Lord of the Rings, maybe because it was a long drag of a movie idk- what I can say for absolute fact is that I watched ONCE and Once was enough: By the time the franchise was over I didn’t care who lived or who died or WHAT happened to that ring.. I just wanted the end credits to roll already.

Its funny you bring up lord of the rings though because they themselves have been subject to Cross-Overs, In fact I’m pretty sure they’re in Lego Batman the Movie.

Cross Overs allow things like my favorite TV shows and Movies to cross into the game I enjoy playing.

Look at Smite and Injustice 2- Both games had the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in them, now… anyone who grew up in the 80’s or early 90’s know the TMNT by heart, (before Nickelodeon got hold of the franchise and absolutely butchered it..) TMNT were EVERYWHERE, on Pizza boxes, on Milk Cartoons, on Launch boxes, in News Papers, the songs from the movies played on the Radio, you had to literally be living under a rock to NOT know what TMNT was..

And I find it cool that my favorite childhood Saturday morning cartoon characters were featured in Both Smite & Injustice 2.

I have no idea why you despise Terraria so much- but I can tell you that after sitting on the Internet scrolling through the 400+ mobs that game actually has: They have SOME that Make Klei’s own Discontinued Lunar Horror Mobs look like Child’s Play.

In fact I can probably post at least 18 of them right here right now that would’ve fit right into Klei’s discontinued lunar horrors.

Hey… I may actually be into something here- maybe the reason Klei discontinued making them was because they somehow scored the rights to use some from Terraria.

This is exciting!!
Cross-Overs are a good way to get multiple brands known from one media outlet.

For example- does anyone even play Minecraft AT ALL with the default skin set? I know I sure as heck don’t.. I applied the Skyrim mash up pack and never looked back.
