Buzzard safe Gobbler Farm?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I base in the oasis desert for the smoldering is not bothering me there. But I have a little "problem": Buzzards! They keep on trying to eat the powdercake I put in a little fenced area inside a berry bush ring and I don´t know how I can hold them back from eating my lure :(

How do you oasis baser deal with that specific problem? (And yes, I know there are other also other/ even better reliable food sources than a berry bush&gobbler farm, but it just bothers me that I have no defence against powdercake eating buzzards)

Depends on how big your powdercake area is, im pretty sure buzzards have a good chunk of hp, unless they fly away when hit by trap?

they fly away when they are hit on landing. i would a assume a dense cluster of toothtraps would mean there is no way to successfully land and allow for aggressive retaliation

for sure it might be worth it to try and see if someone can get a buzzard to land on a toothtrap cluster

One way to go about this problem is putting a petal or berry as bait instead of powdercake. IF I'm not mistaken (and I probably am), gobblers get lured by petals, but buzzers don't eat them. The trade-off would be that you would have to renew the bait every 6 days, when the berry/petal rots.

Just pick the powder cake up after ur done picking berries, store it in a chest and place it back when the berries are ready to be picked again. The bait doesnt have to be on the ground all the time

Buzzards eating bait is the price we have to pay for smolder-free real estate im afraid

i just checked and i thought it was working using a ring of toothtraps(about five out from the bait in all directions) with a stone wall and the buzzards were all spawning outside of the wall buuuut they could reach in far enough to set off the trap and once a trap was deployed then buzzards would land in the safe spot and then suicide towards the bait until enough had been set off that the buzzards could easily eat it without worry

sorry i couldnt help

Maybe try doubling the wall width?

To avoid manual resetting, maybe use anenemies?

Perhaps, you could make 2 pig/bunny/merm houses around the berrie farm and build a small cage for the bait. Buzzard will peck the mobs when they landing for food and get killed before they can eat the powder.

That's buzzard-specialist-big-brain stuff right here

good idea. I would use bunnymen because they regenerate health, so they won't die.

placed starfish traps have a radius at which birds cannot spawn, but it doesn't apply to buzzards after i checked :/

Use a saladmander. They will defeat buzzards because of their large health pool, buzzards always initiate combat when a mob is near food. Make sure the saladmander is always green which isn't a problem when kept away from sources of heat.

a buzzard will attempt to defend it's scavenging from a saladmander but will always die because it loses out in hp.

Saladmanders also never eat and recover hp while sleeping.

didn't quote correctly..

very interesting indeed..

I have several pet saladmanders in my base. One that lives at one of my furnaces, a penned one, and Shepherd-manders who live with my goats and geckos (and scare my geckos for more grass). What's the go with warning against them being red? do they create fires on death while red?

I wonder if a saladmander defense force to deal with hounds would be effective.

This is actually an idea that is so incredibly simple I'm ashamed it hasn't come to my mind yet xD Thanks bro!
