I thought that it was a great idea to have an aid in evaluating which dishes we can cook using some ingredients we may have, and keep track of some of the combinations that can make specific dishes.

This is implemented in a way that motivates players to experiment and discover new combinations, also it provides useful information about the properties of the dishes (cook time, ingredients, stats benefits, extra effects, etc.).

For me it was fun to complete the cookbook and made me experiment with Warly. Some dishes were difficult to obtain, but overall it was not too bad.

Oddly enough, I'm gonna say the hardest dish to obtain in that list (in my opinion) is Fresh Fruit Crepes. Not only do you need Butter and Honey (the former being hard to get) to make it, but you also have to add a fruit value of 1.5x; meaning that you could not make this dish with berries alone and you would have to manually grow crops such as a Watermelon, Pomegranate, or Dragonfruit (or search far and wide in the Ruins for a Glowberry or Banana). On top of all this it's exclusive to Warly's Portable Crock Pot.

Mandrake soup and Banana pop were the my last dishes.I had stored in wraps a stack of almost every food, except cave bananas, eletric milk, butter and mandrakes(I was invested in the idea of having a storage). I opened the wraps and made all the dishes, but I had no mandrake or green gems to deconstruct a pan flute, so I had to fight dragon fly as warly to get lucky with 2 green gems to make the things, for a soup, and I ate it, just for the book. Felt good.

I'm going to fill whole cookbook. Maybe not now, but slowly, in the future... Dishes which require butter are going to tricky. Good thing, I was lucky to get some nice mandrakes (never used them, because there always I wait for a best moment to use it).

i kept telling myself "no, I can guess what the prefab to a wobster is, I don't need to go to the wiki!"

Who the heck names their lobsters "wobster_sheller_land"????

On the one hand, I can catch wobsters with just a stick and some seeds in my sea fishing rod. On the other hand, that might actually have been faster and easier than guessing the prefab. (I, too, spawned in my ingredients instead of trying to fill the cookbook through legitimate play. This allowed me to try out some absolutely bonkers combinations like royal jelly, durian, and nightmare fuel in my pumpkin cookies!)

This is one of my favorite features now. I have pretty bad memory issues(took me years to remember what each mushroom did). The Crock Pot was such a nice system, but I was always too scared to experiment because I could never remember any recipies or even what most of them did so I just went with the easy stuff like Meatballs and never tried anything else(I started the game in EA SP). Now I can experiment, and the game can remember the recipies and details of the dish for me. It's even got me to experiment further on a recipie, like I can see what ingredients I used in something and go ''Oh, so this is a vegetable, I can probably replace it with this one'' and it's been very nice.  I simply love it.

I plan on filling it as much as possible. In a way, it's another goal to strive towards in the game.

This cookbook thingy is a nice addition for newbies/noobs/casuals' help and completionists' delight. Is helpful and fun if you are into it I suppose. I'm sadly not interested so for me is superfluous: won't bother completing it, and as such I have no idea which dish is "most difficult to obtain" - probably something with "exotic ingredients" and/or some rare Warly cuisine (as I never play Warly).

I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it, but isn't the cookbook info tied to each player's account? So if I complete my cookbook, can I go into other worlds and craft/drop full cookbooks for newer players?

I... can you do that? I don't know anyone who's tried, and I can't test it by myself. Would they see the cookbook as full, or would they only see their own recipes?

You can't share your cookbook with other players. The cookbook is only for you and you'll be able to see only your recipes on your book. They don't work like Map Scrolls.

Oh. Lame. Seems like a missed opportunity there. I feel less motivated to fill out my cookbook now.

Edit: I can see how that might be technically difficult actually. It's probably a lot easier to have it just open an info screen tied to individual accounts. At least it carries between worlds for each player.

I think that cookbook should be easier to craft, or unlocked by default- the ingredients required to make it are confusing, I have no idea what they are.. Just like when Pearls Hermit Home needed Upgrades- The little Icon of Cookie Cutter Shell made it impossible to tell if that was cookie cutter shell, slurtle Shell, Sea Shell, or moon glass shards.

Im going to just assume that I need to craft some pen & quail- But if the cookbook is to help newbies LEARN Food Recipes- does Klei Honestly think that they’ll even know how to craft cook book?

I am every so slightly disappointed by the cookbook. I have a very long-term wilderness server and I don't want to die to switch to Warly to fill out my cookbook.in that world. I am trying to ignore the Warly recipes being blank but it really bothers me knowing that they are. I keep trying to console myself by looking at my compendium cookbook where everything is filled out but each time i get into my wilderness world I start getting anxious about those recipes not being filled in.

(*long sigh*)

I guess I'll just take a deep breath and kill off my main to spend ten minutes making the recipes before switching back.

Are your other server slots full?

Asparagus soup. I don't know why, but it infuriates me I can't make it. I just can't. Somebody give me recipe please.

You need Asparagus and 1.5 vegetables. Just add 3 Mushrooms, cacti, stonefruits or weed in the pot or you can add other vegetables like carrots and corn. Just be careful not to add any ice or it'll become vegetable stinger.

I got all of Warly's ones, easy. Just need 12 more regular dishes, four of which are the barnacle recipes and two of which are leafy meat.

I noticed I'm still lacking some easy recipes like Potato Puree, Salsa Fresca, Ceviche, Fruit medley and Lobster dinner. Considering your list, the hardest one will probably be Jellybeans for me, considering I'll need to dedicate some time into preparing for a beequeen fight. (Catapult time).

Dunno why people are too hesitant to make mandrake soups, I got 6 variations of it recorded on my cookbook :P

I like the cookbook. It would be cool however to be able to put it on a stand. Next to a crockpot for an example.Would be stylish and make it easier to share with fellow players.

Ah, wish we could place it on the End Table.

Wouldn’t it still not help new players because it would only show them what they already know, and a few pictures of stuff they can make guesses at

Yayy, Jellybeans down too, all it took was a little bit elbow grease and catapult doomsday :P I still need those barnacle recipes though. And Leafy Salad proved too elusive for my memory, last time I accidentally made honey nuggets with our limited honey, thinking one more leafy meat would make meatloaf. And this time when I had everything ready, lightning fell on the boat, sinking it and taking its four lureplant passengers with it. Next game I guess.
