How to kill Deerclops

Recommended Posts

Deerclops is a simple boss, as long as you understand how to beat him. This is not the case of a begginer: they often forget to prepare entirely. The reason why killing Deerclops is a good thing is: the eyeball allows you to craft the eyebrella, a very useful rain protection item. Here are the 2 most effective methods I know of to kill him:

1) The kiting method. Hit 2-4 times, depending on your skill level / speed boost and dodge. If you use this method, make sure that you have stuff to keep you warm, 10-15 cooked green mushrooms or equivalent to avoid insanity while fighting him, a fresh ham-bat or a tentacle spike and a Log Suit / Football Helmet at full durability to fight him, just in case.

2) Killing him using other mobs. You can also bring Deerclops to other bosses or mobs. First of all, you can get him in a forest and make him chop trees for you, so that a Treeguard spawns. If you do this, make sure you have enough stuff to keep you warm as it can take a long time. The good side of this is: you will get a lot of logs. If there is a tentacle trap setpiece (the one with 1000 tentacles and 10000 reeds), lure him there, tentacles will kill him. Lastly, can can lure him to the Dragonfly. Use armor for this, as you might get hit. You will need to get the Dragonfly's agro and then get in range of deerclops and doge his hit while Dfly is in range. If Dfly does not agro, then repeat the process. Keep your distances as Dfly could decide to attack you instead if you are to close. Then, lure Dfly to her despawn point once she kills Deerclops and quickly grab the loot before she comes back.

Number 3 is Gunpowder and baiting it to some useless structure like a sign or something (Deerclops prioritizes smashing structures over smashing you) sooo for those of you still struggling with her, throw down a few easy to craft items like empty storage boxes (or even boxes full of gunpowder charges) and light some fireworks.

This also works for Bearger when it goes into Hybernation Mode.

Well... You can also make a campfire, go right next to it and tank him (but this will leave you with low HP and may not work if you're playing Maxwell, or Wendy without Abigail) And luring him to "mobs" is not recommended, as he will wreck them with his A.O.E. attack, and the dragonfly method is too risky.

We do know that hitting Deerclops dodging and repeating works too right?

Just that it might take a while so if you aren’t patient maybe you’d try another method.

However setting gunpowder and ending them off with a weapon works too....

@Charlie Dark yea but this wastes to much resources.

But there are times where a firepit and tanking is preferable.  Wolfgang has such damage output that the fight is significantly quicker to just put down a firepit and tank compared to dodging.  Also if you're going to use Wendy + Abigail you need that speed since Abigail can't kite and will die if the fight takes too long.  Give Abigail a super cure, place a firepit and start swinging.  The fight will be over quickly without losing Abigail.  If you have 2 people you might as well do this method as well instead of kiting since kiting from multiple angles can be awkward.

I'd add to #2 that you can plant a stack or two of pinecones in a long strip so when she spawns you already have an easy path of trees to guide her through.

It takes one marble suit or 2 log suits/football helmets to do with one hambat and like 3-5 healing items. As @Shosuko said, the little extra resources really do help cut down time. Yes kiting and having other things fight it is valid, but tanking this boss specifically should be mentioned due to how easy and time efficent it is.

Past year 2 you can keep a Bearger alive - in winter it sleeps/hibernates. When Deerclops spawns, walk TheOneEyed the walk of shame to CareBear, make it AoE-attack Teddy, run out of the way so yawn wont put you to sleep beside the beasts (and end you instead), go about 1 screen away and eat your Corn Fishes beside a campfire enjoying the weird battle sounds in the night. Easy loot from lazy method. 1 very-healthy Bergie can take down about 2.5 Clopses.

Alternatively you can use the cheesiest method ever, put Winona catapults on a boat and sail away from land just enough so the catapults can smash into Deerclops, but since she does not swim.. she can’t ever fight back.

The bottom line is that if you play this game alone you will find creative abnormal ways of dealing with tasks better suited for multiple players...

Due to the Marble Suit getting kinda buffed because of it becoming cheaper in the May QoL update, it's more viable in dealing with giants. Just slap a marble suit on, a football helmet on top of it, and just hold f with a hambat and Deerclops will die with little HP loss to you.

I've seen the mention of Dragonfly but not of Bee Queen while the later is way more easy to use for fighting.

Bow to the queen !

I always base near my sweet honey guardian :cupcake:

Its a good and cheap way to kill beequeen (or atleast let her low)

Weremoose can easly destroy deerclops with little cost. weremoose hits like a hambat and has the damage reduction of a marble suite, both of them dont have a durability and wont run out. Infact the weremoose is the best tanking method for killing the Seasonal giants, due to the fact that it dosent cost armor or weapon and after beating the bosses you could just heal yourself and grab the loot.

Not really. The boss will beat you up faster than you beat up him, especially clops and bearger. You'd have to switch and heal up pretty fast, keep in mind woodie takes a second or two to transform/detransform, not to mention his hunger dropping to 0 after becoming normal aswell as sanity draining rather quickly while being in mid-combat against a giant, so nightmare creatures will be happy to screw you over. Not saying that its impossible to beat season giants with moose, just alot more tedious and less efficent.

Are you sure? Cuz with a campfire and full health it shouldnt be that way for clops. I dont know. Its been a while since i played woodie.

Maybe they changed him and i missed it.

1. I don't really like kiting Deerclops, and tanking, as Charlie Dark said, next to a campfire I feel is much more efficient.

2. Luring near Dragonfly is wayyy too risky, your loot could burn and it could be extremely hard to retrieve it if it didn't. You might as well skip Deerclops. If you are going to get slaves to do the work for you, Tentecles, Treeguards, and/or Bearger are best.

Hm, with Jellybeans or Wortox souls, he'll be fine. And even at full health with no healing, he should be good to go.

@thegreatJash he is not difficult to kite. He only has 4k health anyways, so it is not a long process. Also, the chances of Deerclops positionnig himself near a magma pool are low. Anyways, it is not hard to understand that you can easily lure them away from it if that happens. Then, if Dfly despawns, she will take a certain amount of time to respawn, just like I said. This lets you get the eyeball easily. The meat is not that important.

True, but tanking is faster and easier imo, and dfly is just too risky either way.

You overestimate skill levels of majority of them Wortox players out there in bulk player-base. Chances of a successful teleport exactly when Deerclops does its AoE attack while also kiting it go lower and lower ..with each new spawned shadow (you will be insane pretty quick into the fight) - assuming you can execute well said teleport alone against 1 enemy at the precise time in first place. Good luck flawlessly handle Deer and 2 Terror Beaks. If other almost-insane players are close, mmmMMM - "good times" further on!
