[Winona Rework] Turn On/Off button

Can we have like a button to turn on/off the Generators and Spotlights? it's a bit annoying that the generator keeps running forever till it goes out of fuel. and would be more cool if you can turn them on when you want.

I totally agree with your opinion.

I thought klei would add on/off option to generator of course.. but it wasn't, unfortunately.

Vito just said in the stream that they thought about it, but it would have been way too good and efficient, so they "nerfed" it this way. But they will think about adding it.

Tbh I don't get why getting something to be "efficient" is automatically bad. Rn the generators are annoyingly demanding. Imo having nice lights is suppose to be cool, that's the whole point. If your gonna spend your whole time refueling lights that doesn't make for a good or challenging gaming experience. It's just a tedious chore.

Same for the Catapults too?

Who the BEEP leaves their machine that needs fuel to run just...on _when it's not being used by ANYBODY_?  Do you leave your lights on in the house when you're the only one there, and you leave?  Do you leave your car's engine running, burning gasoline for absolutely nobody's benefit, while you go into the grocery store to do some shopping?

That's dumb.  Winona wouldn't stand for that crap.  Only a beeping IDIOT would make a machine that doesn't have an off switch at all (or use "12345" for their combination on their luggage).   Winona is _not_, in fact, a beeping idiot.

Give us an off switch.  Machines without those just don't make any sense. Especially machines that burn fuel that has to be obtained, mined, costs money, has to be transported there, etc.  If it's solar or wind sure leave it on.  But otherwise...

(Also as someone who stays on the surface and goes nomadic during the summer, the idea of something that eats up all the nitre is not appealing.  I needs me my small endo campfires, dammit!  Also I randomise the seasons so sometimes summer starts WAY earlier than normal.)

I can think of somebody who actually advocates for that, but he's a political extremist, so it's probably better just to say there is someone that stupid (well, childishly spiteful) and leave it at that.

Oh yes.  I'm quite aware of that.

And of the fact that he's currently ruining running something he really should NOT be allowed anywhere near:  A large, powerful country.  (You were probably talking about a DIFFERENT political extremist, but, ya know...I can see Ol' Ridiculous Hair advocating for that as well.)

I ain't takin' that back or hiding it.

Who the FREAK would actually want people to do that, anyway?  It'd make people _more_ dependent on foreign oil and make it run out _faster_!  Are you HIGH, random political idiot? It'd give your cronies the oil company more money in the _short_ term, but you might wanna start diversifying into wind and solar...and sooner than you would've had to otherwise.

For the light usage it's little different between using a nitre to fuel for the night versus a couple of logs.

Living in the caves is great fun with this and being near the mounds.  No real busywork needed, just endless falling rubble and gems.

Ah.  Well, like I said, I guessed you might be talking about somebody else.  Anyway...I've never been good at the caves, and the idea of not being able to see all around me in a game like THIS kinda weirds me out.  Also, the equivalent of hounds comes from _under your feet_.  I dunno, it all just kinda creeps me out and I'd actually rather catch on fire on the surface than live there...because the "living" part wouldn't last all that long.  : P

(Also that way the game feels closer to my own home!--I swear, aside from it not being AS rainy in the spring, I practially live in the Reign of Giants climate...)

*Utah.  The result of living in a place that's mountainy and deserty at the same time, is that you can have cold winters AND hot summers in the same year!  Yay!  I'm making a temperature blanket; it oughta be nice and colourful by the end of 2019.  XD  Oddly enough, it's _autumn_ where we normally get "the monsoons" around here--it's almost like alllll the rain that never fell during the summer shows up all at once.  Heh.

I thought about this the first 10 minutes I tested winona, then seeing how powerful the catapults are, I have to disagree. Also I urge everyone to check the new videos of people massacring the bosses with the catapults in less than 5 minutes... They are a late game thing.

We don't need a switch off, we just need to calculate how much fuel is enough for the use of them we need, then let it stay off completely depleted until you need it again. And If you want a turret that is on all the time and doesnt deplete anything, go all the way for the trouble to get a houndius shootius.

You can even leave a chest right next to it with "fuel" (gems or nitre) to turn it on whenever you need to. catapults are GREAT and compensate by a lot this chore.

TL;DR: Let them deplete, and only charge them with just enough time of fuel for them to turn off when you are done. They are not meant to be powered on all the time, the same way wolfgang is not meant to be mighty 24/7.

On the other hand, the spotlight is not really so good and I dont see it being made other than to make your base pretty. The spotlight should probably turn itself off when nobody is within range, and even like that I dont see it that useful considering how expensive its fuel will be for just light. 3 gems are not worth 6 days of a tiny one person only light, you can get more light for everyone to see by about 12 boards in a tier 0 firepit. Its even worse with the nitre generator.

On/Off button, higher capacity, and Spotlights only activating when necessary, like Maxwell lights. Maybe make their radius bigger too; I could see Spotlights being favorable in some scenarios if they covered a large area, even if the light itself is small. As-is, there's not really any reason to make a spotlight over a Firepit or Lantern.

Her hunger mechanic is also over-tuned. I feel actually discouraged from crafting, which...doesn't feel right for someone who's supposed to be good at it?

na they need to add the ability to turn of the generators the catapults are cool but lack luster and super niche they are only good for bosses and that's it and fighting bosses is already easy and not something people are doing constantly being able to turn generators in no way makes them op just makes using them more convenient as it is i dont see a point in playing as winona in the first place especially early game were people do the most crafting if anything she is a character you switch to late game after you have most things unlocked and have lots of crafting materials to put down a few catapults for a farm and just switch back maybe they add the ability to turn of generators but only for winona to make staying as her more worth it and also they need to remove or change the crafting speed thing maybe make it so between 60-50 hunger she crafts at normal speed and slower like she is now below 50

EDIT: either way i'm sure someone will mod away any issue i have with her it would just be nice for it to be in the game without mods

i dont see a point in playing as winona in the first place especially early game were people do the most crafting if anything she is a character you switch to late game after you have most things unlocked and have lots of crafting materials to put down a few catapults for a farm and just switch back

This is very true sadly. Not many reasons to stay as Winona.

i like comparing her to Wormwood for they both have a main stat restricted but done in a different way

you play Wormwood has no healing from food you don't take damage you don't get punished

you play Webber you don't mess with pigs you don't get punished

you play Winona you craft you are losing a thing you can't help you are punished for doing things that are literally required to survive

even if it isn't that bad it still odesn't feel good to be ether wasting hunger or wasting time for a perk only really applicable during bosses

at least with Wolfgang you can turn off their appetite

without major losses

I think the con is only viable if you stay in the longer crafting state, while you craft a lot of things, specially early game. Its not that much time you loose crafting things...

Otherwise during most of the game you will not waste that much hunger on your everyday crafting, which is what, on average, a dark sword and a helmet every 2 days? 15 extra hunger every 2 days? Lets say 25 adding a campfire every night... Its not that bad people!

The only concern I have on the new design is what was mentioned above, having to live with this con offers nothing in exchange once you have built your stuff. Maxwell is forever a frail character but at least his sanity regenerates and he can obtain a lot of resources instantly anytime he needs them, winona builds her stuff and thats all you need from her forever.

Maybe all the devices should consume more energy if she is not within a certain range of them (lets say 2 screens away so its not so crippling) so it would be like her active engineering skills increases the efectiveness of the machines. And if she is not within the radius, they dont regenerate lost hp.
