Pretty sure the new Content is going to start together with the Year of the Pig King,As I remember reading JoeW mentioning the new content will start with it (Something along the lines of "All new content on YoTP will stay in the main game", or something like that.)  but you might already know that.

they said that the year of the pig content will be permanent so that might be the forerunner to the new reign 2

Hopefully the new content will be retrofitted into existing worlds like they did with the Oasis and Antlion.

I hope they add something new to caves, like caves has lot of room there are most empty places with slime grass spots id imagine there would be like underground magma place that in that place gets ground really hot in like it will dmg you when you walk on it and maybe add like magma gaysers too like lava bursts out in some holes. Whats funny we still cant use the updated spawn portal in underground maybe we finally can use there the indecent gem bec it moon related gem and wilson always quotes on the upgaded portal in cave “It needs Moon light” .

Near the second half of the ANR beta they were getting pretty good at doing that. I'm sure any new content will work with existing worlds.

They just put it into an empty space somewhere around the ruins and its tentacle to an empty spot. I remember how I suddenly found a new gigant tentacle. Also my atrium was extremely far, like 3-4 screens away from any land, I guess it's a side effect of retrofitting.
