[Question] Carpeted and Crown Moulding Tiles

Recommended Posts

Since carpet now take reed fiber or balm lily flower/seed (though I hope seed is a mistake), there is never a good reason to not use crown.

They need to either add something expensive to crown or make the bonus different for the two tiles.

Mind you they are WIP like the decor plants added in the recent hotfix (same parameter as Briar but spawning in different biomes and different skin). There is little point in asking what they are there for and instead one should suggest what they should be like.

I just hope they change the texture of the carpet soon - I flat out refuse to put something in my base that looks like trumps leathery ballsack...

I was hoping crown tiles would be "carve able" - i.e. you could put them in the corners of rooms and round the edges for that homely feel ;)

Ok my first thought about crown moulding tiles was they would be useless.

(Considering my viewpoint of a late game colony designed to run without player interaction)

=> But the idea of making them dedicated tiles to fill corners would be really nice

So crown moulding tiles have just an intermediate use, but I can´t say that for carpet tiles.

The idea behind carpet would be a tile to use inside my living area, so it should be better than at least one of the common used tiles to do this (considering the possible pWater costs to grow enough reef fiber just for one max size room).

So if your going for runspeed you can choose insulated or conductive ones (platic tiles or metal tiles), which are both superior compared to carpet tiles.

If your want to optimize the air flow or want to prevent flooding, you will still use airflow or mesh tiles.

=> I would prefer more tiles with a special use-case over tiered versions of already implemented ones

and here'd the stats I'd give all 'em tiles, feel free to consider~

  • Tile, Metal Tile: Unchanged
  • Crown Moulding Tile: Same Material Cost and same Movement Speed as normal tile; Decor Value, Decor Radius double of normal Tile and construction speed double to quadrupled
  • Carpet Tile: Same Material as normal Tile plus one Reed Fiber, Movement Speed +20% (slightly slower than normal tiles); Decor Value double of normal, 4 tile radius, Carpet covers all exposed sides, construction speed double to quadrupled of Crown Moulding
  • Bunker Tile and Insulated Tile: 10% Movement Bonus
  • Window Tile: -20% Movement Penalty (thread carefully)
  • Mesh Tile: -20% Movement Penalty (watch your step!)
  • Airflow Tile: -10% Movement Penalty (watch your step a little)
  • Plastic Tile: Let less light through than Window tiles (~10%-30%, Windows are like 90%)

They should make the carpet give decor above the tile and the moulding below the tile. This way it would make sense to build both.

What if Germs got a change where they will spread onto the flooring the dupes walk on, but Carpets will absorb and collect even more Germs from passerby's. Making bacteria spread a bit less severe with clever use of Carpets.

The problem is that decor does work as rectangle-radius while double layered floors will very well not be viable/chosen at all.

Personally I of course would like those tiles to see use but I am afraid that there is one tile too much i.e I do not quite know how to implement crown moulding tiles properly if not for eye candy.

Where is the decor value for dupes calculated?  I always thought it was the bottom square of their body, so basically the value at their feet.  How far above a dupe is their decor value calculated?

Personally, I tend to spam statues and paintings and have always found that having transparent floors provides the best overall decor within my base.  So my floors are always either glass/diamond or mesh/airflow.  I also usually am not concerned with maxing the run-speed bonus within my base, as everything is usually fairly compact and most of my dupes spend the majority of their time outside the base anyways.
